Seeing as Black Friday is becoming more of a worldwide event, I'll still stick to PS4 being down YoY in the US.

There's no way Sony doesn't take the crown for November. The deals for PS4 Slim were very enticing. MS will put up a good showing, but they're going to be #2.

quick update, as the time to post is now over

63 people made a prediction
53 see the ps4 winning (84,1%)
8 see the xb1 winning (12,7%)
2 predicted a statistical tie (3,2%)

PS4 Slim U4 bundle will be for $249 between december 11 - 24.

No COD bundle in sight.
Bizarre.

I'm sure MS will announce a price drop too. They can't be ~$50 more expensive than the PS4 Slim in December.

I am also interested in UC4 continued to be bundled rather than CoD. Sony did say the deal was "incredibly successful" for them. So, they may just be looking at it as an opportunity to continue boosting UC4 and save money. I'm sure a CoD bundle will eventually come though.

sony will not bring a CoD bundle to the us this year. it's already to late. last year the bundle was released 15th december and the bundle showed up on amazon even some days earlier.

they announced the new price today. a possible new holiday bundle would be mentioned the same time

i do think that's smart from sony at this point. infintiy warfare is the call of duty with the worst performance and reception in years, or arguably ever.
sony has a great exclusive lineup in february. we will see new bundles that time around. i'm fairly certain about that

Looks like Amazon is anticipating the drop (or price matching a retailer) by adjusting their price a bit downward already : $269.

The benefit of having just 1 mass produced SKU is obvious right now too for large volumes: the 2 most popular XB1S bundles have been sold out for days now, but the PS4 Slim keeps on chugging (Amazon, but anecdotally speaking the last two Walmarts I went to were sold out of both PS4/PS4S and XB1S, but had loads of og XB1 bundles).

the ps4 slim uncharted bundle was $269 the whole december on amazon.
on gamestop you get 12 months ps+ for free at $299 since december 4th

yea it is possible it could be down in US and up considering worldwide

It could also be that centralization on BF worldwide has become so massive as to leave the rest of the month considerably weaker, and so you can still get an annual increase on BF (in the US and WW) and still see a drop for the entire month.

Amazon has been selling the PS4 Slim at 269$ for days actually.
About why they're focusing just on Uncharted 4 bundle this year it's pretty clear why: it's selling really well, it allows them to cut the price while still not losing money because it's a first party bundle, it allows for easier stock management with no stock lost on unwanted or less successful bundles.
Maybe in January they'll announce bundles at 299$ with COD and FFXV.

No COD bundle in sight.
Bizarre.

CoD is lost this year, basically. UC4 bundle at a lower price point yields a higher profit margin anyway. I've noticed a trend between Sony & MS and how they seem to exchange heavier marketing focus on the holidays between the years. MS dominated in holiday '14 and are doing extremely well this year, with all the deals they whipped up with 3rd parties as well as their own offerings. Sony dominated in 2015 & are set do the same in 2017 with all of their end of year deals they've signed as well.

We'll most likely see a Destiny 2 bundle next year be one of the larger adoption drivers. And if that doesn't work, Sony will have the CoD & Battlefront 2 deals to fall back on.

RDR2 bundles as well.

If RDR2 doesn't get delayed they'll have that as well. I can see why the didn't really push with a cod bundle this year because as you said they have some big partnerships next year if all falls in place.

Yup, exactly my point. Sony has everything lined up next year. This year, Sony seemed focused to get through the holidays by dumping hardware on the market. Personally, I didn't think dropping VR & Pro in the same quarter was a sound decision, but they both had to be released, and I imagine several market tests showed that they were both going to be niche audiences outside of launch.

Focus on hardware now, get the Slim sales high, then lead into your big marketing year - that seems to have been their gameplan right now.

Agreed.

Hardware released now leads to further price reductions leading into the big software releases next year. A potential $199 Slim CoD, Battlefront, Destiny and/or RDR2 bundle? Gangbusters.

This is Pachter's current theory on the month published in his latest investor report.

Too late???

While I'm not in disagree with you about the possibility of the CoD bundle... the fact is last year it was announced for the second week of December... so it is not too late... it can be announced until early next week and be in sync with last year bundle announce.

While for US PS4 can be down or up in the same proportion of chances... I believe WW it is pretty sure up in November.

Anyway Sony had a better bundle strategy last November. Uncharted collection entry level bundle with a 299 price point during BF plus a 349 Star wars bundle and a Limited Cod bundle.
This year PS4 Pro and U4 bundle at 299/249 price point.

I don't really know much besides the deals, why do you guys think my prediction is off base?
Well, even just looking at it broadly, I don't think there has ever been a gap that big between the two in a single month. That doesn't mean it is impossible, of course, but quite unlikely.

That isn't even taking into consideration the Pro launch in November and how Black Friday generally bodes well for both MS and Sony.

not to late to release the bundle, but to late to announce and ship the bundle for this holiday.

yes you need at least 2 weeks prior to christmas. that would be next week thuesday the 13th december.
but at this point retailer would already know. and there are no words or rumors about a cod bundle.
as i said last year the bundle leaked on amazon a week earlier
and they already announced the pricecut for december with only showing the uc bundle

To announce... not to ship... they can start to ship way before the announce... when they do the announce the bundle is already in the retail to be sold.

PS4 Slim alone possible sold more than 800k.
Now include Pro.

That is why they are joking about you. Last year Sony sold over 1500k PS4s and you think it will be down close to 50% this year.

Of course... it is your prediction but that didn't hold people to joke over you :p

PS. PS4 possible sold near 800k in BF alone :D

amazon had that gamestop promo but with a 269$ price tag while supplies lasted
so 500gb ps4 slim bundle +12 months ps+ for $269? bomba!

but on a serious note, this is the first time since gen 8 launch and microsoft dropped kinect, that ps4 is cheaper and has the price advantage over xbox one.
since that time it was priceparity or xbox one beeing cheaper and having better deals

Oh wow. I really had no idea what I was talking about. Sorry guys. Btw can I get a source about ps4 slim sales? I really didn't think it would sell so well. :)

Now, you mean Black Friday week, not Black Friday alone, right? But still, isn't that a little too much, given that apparently the PS4 sold like crazy on Cyber Monday as well (which is not part of the BF week)?

Close I mean 600-700k for BF not including CM.

Last year it did over 800k at BF, no?

Don't know, all I know is they sold more than 1,5mn consoles last November (excl. CM), So 800k for a single day seemes to be odd, even if we get signals that Sony's about to repeat last year's outstanding result (2014 they sold 800k in November).

I don't have data but I believe (or guess) 60% of November sales happens in Black Friday.

Last year you can break sales like...

1539k
Week 1: ~200k
Week 2: ~200k
Week 3: ~200k
Week 4: ~900k (BF)

Please don't do that. The fact that people actually believe that makes me sad.
Well if it was a 44m milestone or some weird number ok but Sony is announcing every 10k milestone since begin of the gen.

It is really weird to believe these type of claims :D

Even 70%.
Welfare made a good post about it last year IIRC.
Yeap... BF is really that big deal for November.

So far, afaik, we have 4 info sources for November and BF.

* Adobe Data (online only): XB1 took BF online, but PS4 took the whole of November (PS4 also won Cyber Monday online, but that's for Dec NPD)
* Infoscout reports PS4 winning BF at retail while XB1 won BF online (BF being largely a retail thing, unlike Cyber Monday)
* Amazon (about 8% of gaming market? Maybe 10?) has the PS4S winning the month by a (seemingly) large margin as far as they are concerned (can't extrapolate much in periods of big retail deals)
* Sony now announces that the Black Friday week period (unknown if only US or WW) was its largest -ever- for Playstation, including last year when it did 1.5m+ units in US in November with a large BF week.

More anecdotally, but also significant, Abdiel reported for his district (Best Buy) a PS4 win on BF.

That's what we know.

You do know we have some hardcore freaks on twitter saying exactly that, right? ;)
And it is funny.

"Oh God, what are we going to do about the US loss?!"
"I don't know, release a statement on how well we are doing worldwide. Maybe our roughly double lead over the nearest competitor will help mitigate the damage from a US loss?"
"It is better than nothing. This is devastating!"

US > WW.

Even a bad COD is still a COD.
If you own the marketing rights, you make a bundle.
You don't buy Messi* to put him on the bench.
I'm with those who give it a few days to go. Maybe a Pro bundle?

Also: now we see why sony built the slim as cheap as possible. Some on gaf were pointing with fingers at that crippled ugly budget box as MS beefed up the -40% machine with UHD and stuff.
My guess is that the ps4 slim is much cheaper to build than the XboxOne S. so it will be interesting to see if MS is willing to match the price. (but we all know that money is no problem because infinite warchest so they will).

By the way: Ryng just takes break to visit grammar school
