I think the point is you are supposed to feel Noctis sorrow/anger at Ardyn, rather than sadness for Luna. I kinda think people are missing the point of her character insofar as she isn't a "romantic interest" figure so much as a saint who's destiny is knowing martyrdom.

The whole marriage angle struck me more as a symbolic gesture, both in a political and mythic sense, than any sort of love match. Her dutiful devotion is rewarded by being made Queen in the afterlife, which ironically I think subverts the criticism of her usage being overtly sexist. From her character's perspective King Noctis is just as much a "trophy" as she is to him.

To be completely honest, I don't think anyone has a good grasp of what Luna's role in the story is supposed to be. I think Tabata was completely right when he described Luna as heroine that you can't ever quite reach, mostly because she doesn't even feel like a real character as she has pretty much no screentime for someone who is supposedly a major character and the "core" of the story.

The thing about FFXV's marketing is that the Omen trailer feels like it's from a different game to me.

As does the Dawn stuff and the Insomnia invasion trailer. I don't understand.
All of tbat was cut, needed to be mads for marketing purposes only.

The game is RUSHED

I have faith in FFXV because if it turns out to be suckish, the Final Fantasy franchise dies to me. And Square-Enix knows this is the last stand. They're not pulling any punches. The FFXIII shit-creators don't have control on FFXV. Yoko Shimomura has returned. The tides have turned. It's the last plank, and just from looking at Noctis and the gang, it already has more substance than the entire FFXIII franchise.

AFAIK they gave a western studio a mission to make a trailer and they were allowed to go crazy with it. (Omen)

It can be rationalized into the plot as a dream-like prophetic vision of Noct taking the journey alone, and failing without the help of his friends.

The astrals are said to slumber to gather power to fight the Starscourge, she's the Oracle, the one who can commune with the gods, a power passed down through her family for generations, ever since Bahamut came to earth in Tenebrae, gifting the first Oracle with the power of the stars and his trident. She goes around awakening summons to land Noctis their power, at the cost of her life, or something? Going by the Judgment trailer when she talked to Ravus. Still not at that point in the story, and the leaks didn't mention it. Both the Reclaim Your Throne main plotline and the stop the Starscourge bigger picture lore converge on Ardyn, instead of being two completely separate goals.

She's also the one holding the Ring of the Lucii, which gives Noctis access to his ancestors' powers, so he needs to get to her because of that.

I think that's it?

I am writing a huge .pdf file with all the fixes and changes i would do to improve the story while being as close and realistic to what we got in the disc, and oter iprovements in general, right as we speak. Will probably go over a hundred pages lol.

Can't wait to finish it and share it with you guys to hear what you think about it
and tell me i'm just a looser writing a fanfiction lol

Anyone have any good examples of Akiyama's work?

Here are two of my favorites:

Vagrant Story Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC098lqnmQk

This is a fantastic showcase of Akiyama's first gig at full event direction in a 3D cinematic scale. This trailer was originally released in a demo disc with some other Squaresoft demos/trailers at the time, but what made it special was that instead of a movie file, this trailer was a full executable that played back in realtime on the PS1. It remains one of my fondest memories to see a preview of a brand new Square IP that looked so fucking amazing. The cinematography remains one of the best in videogames ever.

The end of the FFXII Prologue: https://youtu.be/wwTEGOvjiMk?t=241

Great scene timing, the framing is perfect for introducing the dread in the scene following by a moment of shock confusion as Basch walks past Reks and the camera pans to show the knife in him. Soooooo good.

FFXII prologue was soooo good all around. Especially this part. My favorite segment of that game, lol

See it would be nice if this was explicitly explained but it's not. But I'm currently constructing a thread on reasonable changes people would like to see in FFXV. Mind if I borrow some of this post and give you credit?

I just don't understand. Why
fridge Luna and deny a female companion
only to then worry about how things will be perceived? You are literally sweating the small stuff while not caring about the big stuff. Makes no sense. If you aren't going to care about the aforementioned spoiler then go all the way and create your art the way you want it. Societal pressures be damned. You think you are doing the right thing but really you are just being a coward.

Worrying about that stuff likely had a negative effect on story cohesion meaning you angered people who wanted a good story while also angering the people you were so concerned about offending.

Alright, that prologue was fantastic. I couldn't appreciate 12 when I was a kid but I'm going all in now. The Vagrant Story trailer is impressive as well.

Edit: Why don't I hear of Akiyama as much as I do Nomura and Nozue?

But it is, it's just not a mandatory cutscene.

The story of Bahamut and the Oracle is in the Cosmogony book at Wiz Chocobo Post.

Her holding the ring is explicitly shown in a cutscene, walking away from Insomnia and meeting Gentiana.

The part about summons said to slumber gathering power to fight the Starscourge is in one of the paintings in the tutorial.

But of course, feel free to use it. I don't want any credit, though, it's in the game, it's not my fanfic :p

Credit goes to the game's writer, Saori Itamuro.

People sound like FFXV is bad. Is it?

Easily my GOTY so far. Still didn't play The Last Guardian, though, I'm saving it for christmas.

The story is undeniably terrible in how it is told.

The gameplay is divisive. Some people really like it, some people don't.

I had a lot of fun for most of it and would probably give it a 7/10 for the experience, if forced. But I'm also someone who found the combat to be chaotic and sloppy. I also skipped 80% of sidequests and hunts and did zero postgame content and I think that made my experience much more positive. I was DONE with the game when the story was over.

Because Nomura is a game director, character designer, creative producer, and god emperor, and Nozue is division head at Visualworks and directed two expensive CG movies. Akiyama directs realtime cutscenes.

It's currently competing on my list for GOTY with Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian.

But it's divisive. Check the most professional reviews, and play it yourself so you can forge your own opinion about it.

Piece of advice: Don't believe GAF's hype. Don't believe GAF's hate.

For ANY game.

GOTY for me.

Opinions and all but some pretty brilliant stuff came out this year and INSIDE is pretty much a perfect experience.

Quoted for truth!

When in doubt, RedBox.

I do think that we are just too close to release to have a real hard look at FFXV. I fully expect a negative turn-around in general opinion in the coming months.

I think mid 8 ratings are appropriate. The gameplay can be fun and also frustrating. The overall story is ok but fails in parts, mainly I feel like too many things are skipped and glossed over. Lot of confusing bits that even after beating make no sense.

But I enjoyed it.

Hyper Light Drifter was my previous GOTY. That game is brilliant. It has a very well realized sense of "ruins of a former civilization" that I love so much and Ueda's games portray so brilliantly.

Damn, I need to play that. I still haven't even played Uncharted 4, Doom, or The Last Gaurdian. Yet I still feel that giving GOTY to FFXV would be a slap in the face to the developers that delivered a complete, confident, well-tuned product.

I've heard many good things about Inside, but I honestly fell off it pretty quickly. The only other contenders for me have been Doom and Overwatch. Though I haven't gotten much time with The Last Guardian yet.

If he hasn't already Square should let him direct some CG. A short film. Something.

FFXV is also my GOTY and that is from someone who enjoyed INSIDE ad Uncharted 4. I never managed to get much into Overwatch though, maybe MP shooters are not for me. Doom was good fun but not a genre that I love at all, and not something that I remember. The story in Doom was relatively straight forward for me.

Compare that to the experience that FFXV gave me, which was the first game in years that made me play it constantly for 10 hours. I finished the whole game in 3-4 days with a total playtime of around 30-35 hours. I have never done this for a game in a long time.

I would say a KHI animation but Disney have their own talent to do it, especially with their output the last few years as far as movies go. I'm still holding on hope there will be a feature length movie one of these days.

Typically from my experience on game forums the opposite happens. Lots of knee-jerk reactions early on and then views soften up over time. Same happened with previous FFs too. (VII, X, and XII being prime examples)

But who knows. Guess we will see in time.

They were but they canned it.

KH doesn't need a movie, the story is already shit across 8 games do we need a shit story told in 1.30.

Well, I hated Uncharted 4, even though I agree it was quite complete and confident. So I don't really mind that.

Souls games also usually have loads of cut content, and both Dark Souls and Bloodborne are on my top 3 favorite games.

I'll take a troubled great game over a complete bad one. Now of course, you obviously disagree with me about the "great" part, but that's fine. Just explaining myself on why I don't think this part is a big deal to me at all.

I don't want a movie either, but I enjoy KH's story.

Or at least did, 3D was when it lost me, I have no idea what's going on anymore.

Can't wait to not have any idea of what's going on in KH III <3

1.5+2.5 is one of my most anticipated games for sure, KH II at 60fps TT_TT

Don't worry, if that happens they'll just announce that they're patching the negativity out in a future update.
