DOOM Resurrected - To Hell & Back (Noclip/O'Dwyer documentary on Doom 2016)

Loved the look of that doom 4 1.0 glory kill prototypes , but yeh doing a cover based doom would not of gone down well.

Wanted to hear more about rage , I loved that game and I am sad we will probably never get a sequel.

Holy shit at doom 3 only having 19 people on the team. It's amazing how teams have grown over the generations.

I realize that this is a crazy request but please recut the documentary to show the early id game footage in 4:3 instead of stretching it to 16:9. It's a blemish on an otherwise great video.

Even post-Doom 2016, the shotgun in Rage is still the most satisfying Ive ever fired in a game.

Thanks for posting this. I picked this up on Black Friday for $10, looking for some nostalgia. I had no idea it would be one of the best games I'd play this year.

Really awesome. I think that's the first time we've seen the FPS gameplay of DOOM 4 v.01. The electicity in the room of that Quakecon presentation was crazy, gave me chills.

Is it just me or is Marty Stratton a cool fucking dude.

I'm glad that Doom 4 wasn't skipped over and was pleasantly surprised at its prominence in the video. So glad, in fact, that I pledged $10pm after I'd finished watching.

I wonder if Doom 4's aesthetic similarities to Rage also played a part in its demise. If I didn't know any better, I would have guessed that the actual gameplay footage was of unreleased DLC or the ill-fated sequel.

a cinematic "reality based" Doom actually sounds cool but it'd have been forgotten soon after with all the other shooters out there. maybe one day there could be a spinoff or something

playing through DOOM right now actually. so so glad they got around to making this instead though

I do have to wonder how much corporate pressure there may have been to push Doom 4 in that direction that they're not really able to talk about

This will be considered blasphemous, but those Doom 4 concepts look way more interesting than what we got.

I hope that game is brought back in some form in the future.

Not blasphemous, more like weird.

The game looked like the bastard child of Metro & Resistance. Im much happier with what we got since its not something we see a lot in the big budget space unlike slow paced FPSes.

Im interested in how a Rage 2 with the current id Software and id tech 6 would look like...

The Doom 4 concept looks interesting but not as a Doom game. If they made it a new IP and altered the demon designs to look less Doom-esque I'd be interested in playing it. It's a shame they seem to have scrapped it completely for Doom 2016 but I'm really happy with the final product we got.

Wait until all 3 parts are out, downlad the videos and merge them? Like why does it matter?

Also, can I watch these if I havent played Doom?

Because this way I could support the making of the documentary and could add it to my itunes library without having to download them from youtube and put them together? Like why does it matter to you why I want it?

Do you ask for a TV season to be merged into one piece?

great video!
from the bits of teaser/trailer and the credits from the video, hugo martin seems like a really funny guy. can´t wait for parts 2 & 3 and hopefully some extended interviews.

Oh boy I am glad that they have scrapped Doom 4. It is crazy that they thought people wanted narrative focused, more gritty Doom game. No one gives a fuck about UAC or the "deep" lore of the series.

Well damn, that was a great documentary.

Good on you Danny, I didn't really watch any of his content before but this is right up my alley.

Quality documentary.
We don't get vid docs like this all that much in games media so thanks for this Mr O'Dwyer.

And of course DOOM was incredible, id software roped me in after not caring about the franchise since DOOM 2.

Great stuff.

Makes you wonder why IGN or Gamespot aren't doing (more) things like this. There's clearly an audience for the more mature gaming content, like these documentaries.

Another awesome video from Danny. I really can't think of anyone who hits the mark so consistently with his docs. The entire production is just pure quality. He hasn't skipped a beat from The Point to No Clip.

If there any other channels that produce stuff of this standard then I've not seen them. Obviously if anyone has any recommendations then I'm all ears.

Does this documentary contain spoilers for Doom? I'm 2/3 of the way through, documentary seems right up my alley.

Uh....

Define "spoilers"

Do you mean dark souls/mario level insane fandom where brief viewing of gameplay stuff will ruin your life and the person deserves to die, or real spoilers?

If the former, possibly? If the latter, no. Not that uh, DOOM has much to spoil anyways >.>

Hm, so the creative director for Doom 2016 is not only former Naughty Dog, but also designed the Jaegers for Pacific Rim. Very interesting.

The direction that they had in mind for Doom 4 made me think Killzone meets Resistance more than anything else.

Weird, hasn't it always been Wolfenstain?

Stop that!

haha what an amazing watch. And I guess I must have missed their Rocket League documentary but I'll be sure to check that out.

When the end of this part neared and Danny alluded to 'Part 2,' I had a wave of 'FUCK YES' wash over me. Outstanding production and loved the juxtaposition of the red/distort filter showing Texas followed by the actual shot of a peaceful building, flower garden, etc. Just all-around a well-produced, informative, entertaining piece. Excellent work.

Honestly that was the most shocking aspect of the video, because DOOM's "story" is like a gigantic middle finger to the Uncharted way of doing things.

Great stuff.

His "why I started Noclip video" is pretty good. The big gaming sites have a lot of salaries to pay for and so they need as much ad revenue as possible, that inevitably leads to more clickbaity titles and putting out as many videos as possible to saturate the market.

He's quite fair in saying that they also make some space for more serious/in depth stuff, but not enough for his liking and he see's it getting worse rather than better.

His main point is changing the funding model, so that he relies on patreons who in turn have signed up expecting quality in depth content....so that's what he makes.
