There's a part in Cape Crustacean and I have no idea how to get past it. It's two lasers just moving left to right, but they never turn off and i don't fall down into lower area like a section before with one laser.

Help?

To add to the other ways to get past it, the invulnerability magic works wonders.

Don't worry yet. It'll come up.

Letting the player just grab that stuff without knowing what it's for is something I really like about the game. It's a good compromise for what that is. (Imagine how annoying it'd have been if that stuff didn't spawn until that point in the game...) I feel like THIS is how you do fetch quests and other games could take a lesson in how to make it NOT feel frustrating.

Pirate's Curse did the same thing and it's great. Every time I got a new power I'd go back to the previous hubs and look for things and I was usually rewarded

I sat down and played through the whole thing on Wii U last night. I had already played through the early access version. I noticed they changed a part in the last stage where you fly over a bunch of lava and spiky blocks. I think it was just this one part that was way harder than the rest that they took out.

Man, I wish I had gone PS4 instead of Vita, the framerate is pretty chuggy and inconsistent. It might have felt better locked at 30. (Though I realize in 2016 it's borderline unfair to complain about performance on the Vita.)

Enjoying the game so far, though. I've often disliked the "sprites on 3D background" thing but it just looks fantastic here.
It's bad on Vita? Does it run at 60fps with slowdown or is it just juddery looking all the time?

It's 60 fps with frequent slowdowns in most areas, mostly when you kill enemies in very open stages due to their extravagant death animations, I'm guessing.

I am stuck in hypno baron's castle. I must be missing something, all I can do is go to rottytops' brother, two dead ends that you need the monkey to get to and a chest.

I have Gibbs missing something because that poster apparently isn't available in this chapter.

Edit: figured it out I'm dumb also i'd but that merch

My guess is that, given previous completion times for Shantae games, it's likely that the achievement requires the game to be beaten/completed in 2/3 hours.

Question : will the game be released physically in Europe, or just digitally ? I didn't find the information.

Xseed/Marvelous USA publishes the physical version, and they only publish (non-digitally) in America.

I haven't followed too closely since that was announced, but unless I'm mistaken (and do feel free to correct me), there have been no motions towards or mentions of a European physical release. I'm not sure if this is unwillingness on the behalf of European publishers or WayForward, but that's the situation.

Since Rising Star Games, a mostly European publisher, published the Japanese 3DS release of Pirate's Curse in Europe and North America, they might, in the future, pick up this game for a European release, but I wouldn't bet on it.
So for now: No.

Do we know when the physical versions release. I heard they were releasing after the digital versions, is that true?

Wayforward finished the game, submitted the finished game to the platform holders (and XseeD), and then announced that they were giving early digital copies to the backers and journalists around Dec 12 (give or take a few days). They announced that they were setting the digital release date for regular folk as being Dec 20. They said that the physical version was XseeD's problem, and it was up to XseeD to provide their own physical release date.

Then XseeD announced that there was no problem. Wayforward gave them plenty enough warning, so Dec 20 is also XseeD's physical release date. The physical Wii U version will be Dec 27 due to an unexpected Nintendo delay (with the digital Wii U version slated as "ASAP").

Thank you for the info! Also, it's XSEED.

Seems like it's like this on the PS4 too, according to a GameFAQs poster:

As sad as it is for me to say it, the game doesn't run that well on PS4 in some areas. The second act of Main Street has frame rate issues at certain points, and for some reason revisiting Mermaid Falls after completing it at least once causes the entire first act of that stage to chug at sub-30fps. I'm actually really disappointed in the quality of the port. If you don't really care which system you get it on, go with PC.

So we have reports of framerate issues on both Sony platforms.

Sub-30FPS is exaggerating, but it's definitely not smooth at all compared to how the game normally is. It seems like water in general really affects the framerate for some reason

Guy is exaggerating. It's not as bad as people think. But then again, I don't see any framerate issues on Main Street or even in Mermaid Falls. I'm probably wrong again haha.

What PC issues? (still trying to decide on a platform)
Sorry about ignoring this the first time. But what I saw was mostly in this thread, IE unusually low performance for a high power computer. But then I guess the issue might be running the wrong renderer too?

I'd say it just feels kinda bad when you're used to it being 60 fps and it goes to 30 fps. But you know, that's still pretty playable, and pales compared to the slowdown we've seen in some 16-bit games. Would be nice if they could put out a patch to deal with that though, at least a toggle to bring it down to Wii U fidelity but at 1080p.

Anyways, beat it despite getting it on PS4 rather than PC so fewer opportunities to readily play! Definitely a great game, I'd probably put it as Pirate's Curse >= Half Genie Hero > Risky's Revenge. I feel the structure actually does work pretty well for this, though items can be a bit annoying to go collect. And I think if they don't just incorporate gadgets later that they could perhaps make some transformations happen contextually, IE double jumping going into spider mode or clinging to a wall going into monkey mode, and save dance transformations for more fully featured alternate forms. It ends up feeling extraneous when they're basically only used for access features, while something like Demon's Crest had them be full on separate combat forms.

I think I have one major nitpick with this game, why do nearly all the stages look worse after completing them the first time with that terrible fog in the background?

It will run all stuttery on refresh rates higher than 60 hz even on a 980Ti desktop. 1920*1080@60 is perfectly smooth.

On a GPD Win on the other hand it's capable of running a perfect 1024*576@60 hz but for some reason I need to switch to a different resolution, then go back to 1024*576 every time I launch the game, else it won't be smooth. Go figure.

Finished the game yesterday, 7:11 with 100% item collection and 68% trophies. Happy with the game (that final slide part can rot in hell though). Pirate's Curse gets my vote as the best Shantae but this game is a strong second place.

P.S.
The music is mind blowingly amazing, Mermaid Falls and Mermaid Factory are so GOOOOOD!

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhjh-rD8Bwc

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BQk_0MpGLv4

They feel like something from the 90s, so "Snesy"/"genesisy".

Hope this helps you make your decision.
I wasn't aware this game had orchestrated music but glad my cash helped make that a reality.

And yeah, Mermaid Factory has that momentous techno snazzy coolness that seems to be a continuous thing for WF (or maybe mainly inspired by the Mighty series) while Mermaid Falls is straight-up ocean-spray Genesis-inspired goodness.

Also: Giga Mermaid might be the most anime-looking character WF has ever drawn.

Not to mention, this game is already giving Dead or Alive a run of their money...err, if you know what I mean...>_>

Played through this on Saturday. Oooohhhh, so good!

Only ran into one technical issue on my Wii U, after using the Home button to pause the game for a long time (20 minutes or so) the music would glitch (skip) upon resuming the game. Pressing home again would fix it though.

Kinda weird that the hardest part of the game was early on, the platforming section in the desert killed me more than the rest of the game put together.

Ability spoilers. Looking to see if anyone else experienced this.

Came up with a weird glitch (PS4). In mermaid falls I used the
mouse
transformation on a location where that transformation automatically uses its ability. This zoomed in and then sent me rocketing through the floor all the way to the water at the bottom of the stage. This broke the transformation but did not zoom back out. The only way to zoom out was to leave the stage. Screen scrolling or advancing the area did not help.

I did not have the waterfall ability.

So...

When should one start pestering Wayforward about not getting any gamecodes (Wii U PAL)?
Today too soon, have everyone gotten codes in emails?

If you are a backer, then contact them right away via support email. If you a member of the press but sent them a message already, do so again. They set out to have codes out to both backers and press by Dec. 20th.

This is important if you backed the game; you should have your copy by now. So hit up the support email and let them you that you do not have a copy yet.

I'm not sure they've sent out EU Wii U codes yet, though - last update on the campaign was that they were delayed, though that was about a week ago. Certainly, I can't remember having gotten any e-mails or anything regarding it, though last I logged into my Backerkit account, I did have a complimentary Steam key added to my account I hadn't otherwise been notified of.

I can confirm no performance issues in the Wii U version.
The only time I've seen the Wii U version skip frames is when it is saving the game to my external USB drive, and when there are lots of explosions on screen like when you defeat the
mermaid queen boss
.
I've returned to Mermaid Falls to get some items and I've seen no performance issues.

They said that Wii U EU backers were getting a complimentary Steam key because of the delay in the very same campaign update. I wonder what's the hold up.

Kinda late here but got my code for the Wii U some time ago and downloaded it. Now I'm going to finish Yakuza 5 first and then dive into this.

For some reason I thought the WiiU version for Shantae would be moved to Switch too so I was kind of ignoring its release, lol

Went for the WiiU (Europe) backer reward tho so I got nothing yet. No Steam code either. Messaged them about it minutes ago, but looking at some of the replies it seems none of the EU WiiU backers got a Steam code yet? Hmm.

As I mentioned above, there was one on my Backerkit account explicitly marked as being a complimentary code due to the EU WiiU delay when I logged in over the weekend. If other folks haven't gotten a Steam code as well, I'm not sure what's up with that.

I didn't get any notification to say anything had been added to my account, though, so if you aren't checking the backer updates or your account, you may not be made aware it's been added.

Whoops, yeah that was it. Figured I'd get an e-mail, but it's already right there on my backerkit profile page (forgot I even had that, had to dig around the site to find it)

Thanks for the heads up! :)

Yeah this is the reason I am not angry/have not panicked or sent an email yet, they gave me a complimentary Steam code to use and like you I found that out myself to when I logged in to my account at Wayforward..

New backer update:

WayForward said:
Due to circumstances that are beyond our control, we are still missing 800 Wii U (EU) Backer Codes. We are working hard to get the matter resolved. However, we are concerned that the codes will not arrive before the holidays. We will be on standby throughout the holiday. If the codes arrive we will distribute them the moment they come in. Please be aware that this may not be fixed until after the holiday.
Each of you has been sent a complimentary Steam Code for Windows PC so that you can play the game. These codes, which were sent out via Backerkit, are yours to keep. We know this doesn’t solve the problem for many of you. Please accept our sincere apology. The moment Wii U (EU) codes arrive, we’ll send them.

I'm betting it's NOE's fault. What a shame it may be fixed until after the holidays =/
My condolences to EU Wii U backers, the game is really good.
