A friend of mine linked me this post. It's from tumblr, apparently. Look, I read one of Carrie Fisher's books back in August. I've been her fan all my life, but I read that book in one of the worst months I've ever had. I had thoughts of you-know-what. I don't even want to type it. This isn't about that, nor is it about me. It's about her. She has had an indelible impact on millions.

"carrie fisher isn’t just princess leia. carrie fisher isn’t just an actress we all admire from a famous series of movies made a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. carrie fisher isn’t just another name on the list of shitty things 2016 has done to people i admire.

carrie fisher is a woman who struggled with addiction and mental illness and never sugar coated it - she spoke honestly, openly, about every ugly truth, and made me so much less ashamed of the things i struggle with in my daily life.

carrie fisher is a woman who fought back against body shaming and misogyny, against agesim, who looked at critics and said “yes, i am a woman who has aged, and had children, and struggled with depression and addiction and my body has changed, so you can just shut the fuck up and deal with it”, and it was absolutely beautiful.

carrie fisher is a woman who was placed in the role of “princess” but didn’t conform to the typical hollywood idea of what a princess should be. she’s loud, brash, crass, and unapologetic for being so.

she’s an idol and an inspiration and she’s a woman who saved my life many times just by being who she was and never shying away from it or feeling the need to say sorry. carrie fisher is so much and more and i cannot begin to stomach the thought of 2016 taking her away from me, from her family, from the rest of the world and those of us who love her so dearly.

i love you, space momma. we all do. keep fighting the good fight."

So glad that she's stabilized. My partner suffered a pulmonary embolism from flying a couple of years ago and the damage to his heart and subsequent recovery have been no joke, even with his being a sort of best case scenario. Carrie Fisher seems tough as hell, so I'm really hoping she pulls through.

Carrie Fisher Is In ICU, Not ‘Stable Condition’: Brother

He also addressed an earlier comment attributed to him, in which he was alleged to have said his sister was in “stable condition.”

“I don’t know where they got that word from. That is absolutely not even close to the truth. We don’t know. We hope for the best. We certainly do not know her condition, that’s why she is in ICU. I’m sure everyone wants to speculate but now is not the time for that.”

Yeah, as long as this battle is being fought (like the professionals in this thread have explained, stable doesn't mean she's in the clear), we need this for every page.

Rogue One Spoilers
I saw Rogue One on Monday,
I totally teared up at the end when we see Fisher's ANH-era Leia cameo. It really hit me at that scene who Princess Leia is and the vital role Fisher has played bringing that character to life

Question on the Rogue One spoilers.
I haven't seen the movie and not sure I will, but I am a huge Leia fan and didn't hear about a "cameo" from her. Is it some sort of unused footage, or just what you already see in the original Star Wars?

Have to admit I already cried earlier. Fisher is one of my favorite female actors, and with it being the holidays too this is just a bummer. I realize her family is going through worse than I am, so my thoughts are with them, and I really hope she can recover enough to enjoy the rest of her life (which hopefully still lasts a long while!). <3 I'm not the praying type, but I'm definitely mentally praying for her and her loved ones right now.

And Betty I also appreciate the gif, thank you.

Fully CGI Leia in one brief scene

She's not really in it, it's a CGI'd young Leia for 4 second at the end.

I've spent far too much time working in cardiac ICUs and when I heard the scant details about what happened, my heart sank. These are the patients where we call the family in right away and have a serious and realistic discussion. Hoping the best for her

On the other hand, after having a cardiac arrest my dad spent a few days in ICU before having an operation and he appeared perfectly fine.

I posted this to facebook, more or less, moments after hearing about the heart attack. ;_;

I am feeling the urge to cry again, bleh. Fuck all of this.

Shit.. Still hoping for the best.. If the stable condition report was wrong maybe some of the worse details were also inaccurate.
(Take this with a grain of salt)If things go well we will probably not hear anything new for the next three days from what I gather.

We need a doctor to explain the difference between cardiac arrest and heart attack because most people don't make that distinction.

Cardiac arrest means that the patient's heart stopped beating entirely and can happen for various reasons.

A heart attack (medically known as a myocardial infarction) is when there is some sort of interruption of blood flow to the vessels that supply blood to the heart.

Just an FYI - You can be stable in the ICU.

Both my parents were in ICUs after minor surgeries.

Hopefully she has been upgraded to serious condition, if not stable. Still hoping for the best.
