Fuck, it's been a really long time since we've heard anything. I feel like that might be a good thing, cus it means she's still hanging on there, but who knows.

God I wish people would stop trivialising these individual situations with the "2016 meme".

Cmon Carrie. Cmon!

I don't get why people get so annoyed as the 2016 thing, it's been a shit year, let people express it the way they want.

that and being passive aggressive by looking for her past drug use as a precursor to her condition right now... : /

Is it really just a meme if 2016 has inarguably been a truly shit year? I think it's getting all the shit it deserves.

Again, can we cut it out with the back and forth sniping about meme posting and other tonal concerns? If someone is posting in bad faith or being mean spirited, I understand wanting to respond. But it's really not productive to nitpick one-line expressions of grief. People just want to chime in and react in some way with news stories like this and there's no need to be overly concerned with tone and a sense of propriety. Assuming that these posts are even bad to begin with, I promise you that you are making the situation far worse by turning it into some stupid, pointless meta-argument about appropriate and inappropriate ways to express "this news sucks."

Morons are insulting Mark in response to this tweet. Trump supporters saying "You should be ashamed to use her health as a political thing", and "He won fair and square, time to accept it".
Like, wtf. They're the ones projecting into it. He could have said that for all the great people who passed away this year. But it means they know "their" president is evil and they're rather insecure about it. I can't even understand how you can call yourself a fan of SW and root for evil irl.
Oh well, fuck them all.
Get well Carrie.

Because every year people say the same thing, "20XX omgz fuck you" shit, mostly due to some celebrity dying.

I get it if personal friends or family die then it must be rough, but I hate to tell you...a lot more celebs gonna die in 2017. It sucks, but it's part of life.

Quit blaming this shit on the year lol

I wish people would shut up about how other people respond to bad news. Tend to your own reaction and quit trying to control everyone around you.

Assuming they celebrate Christmas, I hope for some good news (well I hope for good regardless of the time of year) so they can have a relatively relaxing Christmas. It's supposed to be a day a comfort, warmth, and family. Though, if the worst should happen, a somewhat comforting thought I've heard is that only the special ones are taken during Christmastime (both Grandparents on my mother's side died days before Christmas, though 27 years apart).

Another part of my childhood reminding me how much time has flown by and how fragile the time we have here really is. Hopefully she can pull through.

Really not liking the radio silence in the last few hours on this.

Hopefully the "not-breathing for 15 minutes" thing has been misreported. The stats aren't exactly great on that. Survival is just one obstacle at that point.

My closest friend died many years ago from cardiac arrest and he was 23. Years of prior drug abuse damaged him

Same thing happened to one of my Aunts before I was born. She had quit using and got married but died of a heart attack around 30. Doctor's said her heart was damaged from years of drug use. Mind you this was in the 70's and medicine has improved a lot. But either way don't do drugs :(

I don't allow myself very many heroes, but this is hitting me really hard. Carrie Fisher is a weird and wonderful person and a role model to me. Her courage in sharing her mental health challenges is a touchstone treasure in this world for those who need to know that they are not alone in their own.

Well said, Christine. Thank you for this.

I am with you, friend.

I read one of her books this past August during one of the most difficult times of my life. Her words helped to bring me back from a very cold place.

I don't know if this is like this everywhere else, but Carrie Fisher is not a trending topic on Twitter right now. Just mostly a bunch of jokey hashtags. I find that profoundly sad.

WTF, this a joke post? Yes it absolutely is when factoring drug use and a generally unhealthy lifestyle.

Poster might not realize how devastating drug use actually is.

Drug users in their 30's can look older than people in their 50's and have worse health than people in their 80's.

I wouldn't use the "trending" bar as a barometer for what's really being talked about, a lot of them are paid advertising hashtags. If you type her name in, tens of thousands of search items will come up, people are @ her Twitter account and typing her name instead of using hashtags.

Wait so is she better guys??? Please let me know I just found out about all this! I was working all day and I had no idea. Oh I really hope she gets fully recovered! Don't take her away yet...

60 is NOT old. That's nonsense. Drug use or not.

60 is not old in terms of age, but she probably has the body of a 70+ year old with the way she abused herself over the years. She's made no secret of her drug abuse, weight issues, or mental health battles she has fought. Nor has she made any apologies for it.

Out of the original cast of the OT, I always thought Harrison Ford would be the one to go first because he was considerably older than Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Outside of his reefer and occasional plane crashes though, Harrison seems to be in the best shape out of the three.
