Alright, Wolf Children is next then. I was planning to watch most of the Ghibli stuff, but I don't know what order I should do to make some movies not appear bad (relative) by watching them after a better movie.

Thanks!

Just skip Tales from Earthsea. I would say watch Spirited Away and go from there.

Yea I don't like the design actually. The eyes are kinda off for me.

Yeah, they look a bit... alien.

I think it's the typical case of them adapting too literally the manga design, in anime they looks like a bit weird, yep.

But usually after a pair of episodes people get accustomed to whatever style of design. I mean, look at Madoka, the wiiiide~ was even stranger for me in the first episode.

Gabriel Dropout. Seiren and Akiba's Trip have interesting people working on them too.

Who's the interesting person/people working on Siren if you don't mind me asking ? The director ? (Utawarerumono ?)

2017 huh?
welp, at least some nice stuff is probably gonna show in winter season (konosuba, LWA, Rakugo, etc) but who knows, there might be some trash tier stuff :p (Chaos;child might fall under this :p)

The rest of the year looks interesting to say the least. Even if these aren't good, its something to note and prime for discussion. Stuff like MHA, that DanMachi spinoff, Bort, Saekano, AOT, that one show adapted from that LN by the guy who did Oreimo and it even has the same fucking cover thats also about a brother-sister weird shit, SukaSuka, and... apparently a Seitokai Yakuindomo movie... okay...

lots of stuff to fill our discussion and even more to throw into the fire of animeGAF sanctioned trashing.

2017 is gonna be something here. Maybe some fun, maybe some laughs.

Regardless, the shitfest that was 2016 was behind us. Lets at least look forward to the shitfest that will be 2017 :p

Happy new year!

Yea, streaming-kun needs to be flogged.

Ken has a really screwed up memory of his past going by the way things are folding out.

Didn't know where else to ask this but hoping someone here can help - I got a little nostalgic last night and realised I hadn't seen the 2 Patlabor movies in years. What's the best way to watch them these days? I see blu rays for £19 each or a DVD double set for £18. Are they on any steaming services? I still have my VHS copies but nothing to play them on

I leave for the holidays and return to see Thunderbolt Fantasy is actually in the running for AOTY but no one is voting it ironically as their number one but a couple of people. We could have made history guys :(

Girlish Number - End

Add this to the other show ending last season that managed to finish off the series on a high note. I wasn't expecting this show to become one of my favourites by the end of its run but the development of the characters, the colours used through out and the constant comedy makes this one of my top shows of the year. Glad to see that Chitose has grown as a person (but still has her stubborn and ignorant phases like when she said Shibasaki said something too boring for her to understand haha) and despite my earlier enjoyment of her tortured journey I'm happy to see she got a happy ending. The final shot of the whole cast and crew in the bar was a perfect wrap up.

Just finished Lupin The Third: Part 4 (ITALIANO!).

One of the best series I've seen in a long time. I didn't care for the Da Vinci arc too much but overall, it's funny, charming, romantic and action packed.

The only part I didn't quite get were the last two episodes. Both felt detached from the main plot based around films with Lupin and Rebecca but I didn't quite understand the ending with the church and the note. In saying that, "Untitled" is easily one of the best episodes in the series with that Lupin/Zenigata dynamic.

Yeah. He usually has some interesting connections. Decent VA too. Not really worth looking forward to but I guess I also want to see the trajectory of Studio Gokumi.

My first new year resolution for anime is to try to not multitask while watching anime episode, too often Im half screen on GranblueFantasy, a quarter screen on tweetdeck, and the other quarter screen on an anime episode, sometimes I have to rewatch portions of episodes four times :( thankfully never have that issue with dubs.

The first Welcome to the Ballroom PV shows almost nothing, as you'd expect for a show this far out from its air date, but the anime character design of the main guy looks solid.

Looks very Haikyuu!!~esque like a son of Iwaizumi and Hinata.

They were shown as episodes 6 and 23 in the Italian TV run, which is pretty much where they were supposed to go. They were skipped for the Japanese TV broadcast, but were included as bonus features on a couple of the BD volumes (not necessarily in the right place, though!). Crunchyroll jumped through the hoops required to get those licensed, but since they were only made available later than the rest of the series, they just stuck them at the end of the run rather than trying to insert them in the middle and mess up the episode numbering.

Another good episode. The show seems to have managed to balance jokes and serious moments pretty well lately. Also, it seems even more artsy and creative, which really makes the episodes a lot more exciting to watch. So, New Year's episode, really fitting. A lot of good moments, but I especially liked Rei reflecting on himself after all those missed calls and Akari's confession on the kotatsu, both of them were very heartwarming.

What I learn about this one episode.

  • MC you follow, Youto, is a pervert.
  • They is a cat statue shrine which remove unwanted trait from the person and give it to someone else.
  • Met a female character, Tsukiko, who go there for the same thing.
  • Miscommunication between them which give us a funny scene.
  • Both wish their unwanted trait to the cat shrine and somehow got something they don't want.
  • Manage to see a very funny scene between two girls (Azusa & Tsukushi) where Youto manage to burst out saying stuff he don't say out loud. Become known Hentai Prince because of this incident.
  • Tsukiko now don't have any emotion after the cat shrine and help Youto to try to get back his traits while at the same time get her back for it.
  • Manage to found out Azusa got his trait and manage to get it back from her. Bring in another funny scene in the episode.

A fun episode and help introduce the MC you will be following in this show. I guess the Youto interaction scene with other characters when he can't stop his mouth will be interesting to watch and hope to see more of it.

It's better if it doesn't make "history" though, lol

So I just rewatched Ping Pong The Animation and was wondering if anyone has recommendations of similar series.

A sports anime would be nice but others are good too-- in tone, character development and taking itself just seriously enough.

I don't think it's available on any major streaming service, but I would personally recommend the BD's if you have any interest at all in image quality - they look substantially better than the DVD's.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Oh and you all were right, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is anime of the year (or at least tied with Mob Psycho 100). I've seen the light. First anime in years to make me actually cry. Plus the series got me interested in a new type of entertainment. Would love to see an actual Rakugo performance (though I wouldn't understand a lick of it, unless english Rakugo exists).

There's Katsura Sunshine, as well as some other native Japanese performers who do performances in English.

You've done better than me - I resolved to watch the rest of this before the end of 2016 and have only got up to episode 2... the perils of actually good anime that requires proper attention to be paid to it!

Get the Blu ray version as the quality of the footage is better at the end of the day.

As we're talking about Patlabor, how do you people watch the series.

Tanaka-kun is Always Listless 12

Some great supporting characters, which was good since the main character was uh... well... listless. Should maybe have focused more on the main ones instead of introducing even more characters almost every episode though.

Not as great as Non Bon Biyori, but still good/10

as the saying goes, Mike knows Japan like the back of his hand

When will all anime be in 4k and take advantage of HDR? Imagine how epic Boruto tv would be, rasengan and past pt 1 naruto moments would look even more splendid. I hope anime embraces it immediately.
The new Gundam Thunderbolt film was made in 4K and is getting a UHD BD release with HDR!

My prediction is that 4K anime will be widely available in 2-3 years.

It's difficult to name some in the same vein as Yuasa's Ping Pong but these might interest you:
Planetes
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
Beck
Kokoro Connect
Hibike Euphonium
Oregairu
ReLIFE

not necessarily in any order but I recommend Rakugo out of that list before the others

Kiznaiver feels like one of those anime people stopped talking as soon it finished airing.
No one talks about Rakugo much either and it's still one of the best shows and at the very top of many lists.

It's the reality of seasonal anime. Out with the old, in the new. Still doesn't change the fact that folks loved it though. The OP alone is like the GOAT. I don't say it every day, but I sure as heck listen to it on my own time every so often.
