KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with the software in HDR mode aside from the backlights reverting in game mode. Try this > start HDR content (I used Amazon Grand Tour) > check that backlight is 20 (mine did by default) > adjust dynamic contrast

Mine was off but as I moved it higher the backlight became SIGNIFICANTLY brighter with each tick. I settled on "Medium" almost entirely because of the brightness. Does anyone have this with their set? Why is dynamic contrast effecting the backlight in HDR anode? It doesn't do this for SDR

Did anyone get their KS8000 professionally calibrated? I'm tempted to do it, but was wondering if out of the box settings have improved over the years and if this still produces the huge bump in quality it used to.

I was ready to buy this bad boy about a week ago....waited for permission from the wife first. Now its no longer on sale (Amazon). Would it be insane to buy now? How long should I plan to wait until we see a sale again?

I have a question for you guys. I have a KU6300 and while playing my PS4 Pro I've noticed moments where the colors on the screen momentarily change to grey and reddish tones before changing back to normal. This has happened during Resident Evil 5 and Destiny; specifically following a explosion or large explosion-like effect on screen. Has anyone seen that with the KS8000 or anything other Samsung 4K TV?

My Pro is set to 2160 - RGB.

Returning my KS9500 soon and will be replaced with the LG C6 when the store gets mine in. Tech said my panel has a factory fault.

Was a good ride KS. I enjoyed the ride. Hope you all enjoy this TV. See you around.

Get a discover card and you'll have a low price guarantee for 3 months. Super bowl sales will be the best time for 2016 models.

Please read about the RGB seperation issue we are trying to get Samsung to fix, it was posted about 2 or 3 pages ago. Here is the thread that was made about it on the Samsung forums. Please post there to let them know this is an issue:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/tv/thread-id/6092/page/3

Thanks for your help!

The gaming HDR thread has me second guessing again.

Grand Tour looks perfect on my TV, but pro games less so.

Does everyone have their PS4 set to auto across the board, or YUV420, or set their RGB to limited?

Weeks later still getting that goddamn bar of static that pops up near the top of my screen on PC and i have been through 4 HDMI cables so i am starting to think it's my GPU or TV and not the HDMI, hopefully TV since i bought this gpu less than a year ago and paid $500. Worst part about it is it seems so completely random and happens so fast that you wil literally miss it if you blink i am going to have to just hook it up to my monitor and just stare at it until it happens or doesn't happen.

I usually see it on my TV 1-2 times a day. Would honestly rather be it the TV since i still have till the 12th to return it otherwise i am forced into upgrading my PC early which is going to cost more money.

Have you tried this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005CWOTGM/

I got two of them it because of huge thread about HDMI cables on avsforums and they work perfectly. Don't go over the 5 meters though, only small amount of cables work with 4K 60Hz HDR at that length and 5 meters is basically cutoff point for that bandwidth (so far).

My Pioneer receiver only passes 4K/60p/4:2:0 :( I can't get 4:4:4.

I tried setting my resolution to 2560*1440 on the Nvidia Control Panel but it only gives me up to 30fps. wtf.

Maybe your cable's long or doesn't support HDMI 2.0?

I changed the cable to the 'HDMI 1' port and now it's working, 4k/60p/4:4:4. But now 'Game mode' and 'HDR mode' are greyed out in the viewing settings... But if I turn off 'HDMI UHD COLOR' setting it allows me to use 'Game mode' and 'HDR mode', but then the video signal goes away. This is crazy. Must be something about my receiver. I'm not using the KS8000 though, bought the cheaper KU6500.

I'm not sure PC mode allows game mode.

I believe the TV only accepts 30 fps at 1440 for some reason. I wish it weren't the case. IF you find a way around it, I'd love to know.

I'm running my PC through my Pioneer SC-81 so I'd imagine we have a nearly identical setup.

Probably not helpful to you Pioneer people, but my reciever has additional settings that have to be enabled (enhanced HDMI or somesuch) before it can properly pass 4K video or 3D. Do yours have anything like that?

I'm not sure PC mode allows game mode.

Pretty sure PC mode is already "game mode" in terms of post-processing and extra features disabled, so I'd assume it matches it in input lag as well.

This is not a problem with the TV. I run 1440p 60hz with no issues. It's probably tje receiver.

Edit: run hdmi from mobo to reciever for souns, gpu hdmi straight to the one connect box for picture.

Yea you should. Would the difference be noticeable though?

Depends what you're playing. In Overwatch with kb and m I definitely notice the difference.

Edit: I notice the difference in input lag, I see no difference between 444 and 422 6 feet away from a 55 inch screen.

I do not have a pro ps4 but here's what I noticed with my ks9000. If I set the TV to auto, and the PS4 to Full, I get the best picture possible. If I change the PS4 to to auto, I get the same result. The moment I change the TV to anything but auto, it breaks the TV's RGB auto detection, crushing blacks again. Auto only fixes itself when I have the TV back to auto and change the PS4 to Full again. Notice I only mention Full on the PS4. For some reason, TV > Auto and PS4 > Limited does not work. TV > Low and PS4 > Limited also does not work for me. Only TV > Normal/Auto and PS4 > Full/Auto are the only ones that work for my TV (though again, if TV is on auto, the moment I start changing RGB settings on the TV to test, it breaks).

I'll try a 1:1 comparison with the same game later, but PC mode did feel a little more sluggish than I'm used to on PS4 games with Game Mode enabled. 20ms vs 37 is about one frame difference at 60 FPS, which I can usually notice.

Imo with a mouse it's the difference between a headshot and a miss. Ymmv.

My setup doesn't allow me to play shooters with M/KB on my TV, but the lower input lag and better-feeling mouse controls will be nice if I get a lapboard and use it for FFXIV. (Yes, I know it has controller support but I will never be able to bring myself to use it.)

Lap boards are the truth.

Got this TV after many recommendations but honestly not very happy with it. The major issue I'm having at the moment is that my PS4 Pro constantly flickers black whenever I'm playing a game for a brief second. It can happen 4-5 times in a minute or not for 5 minutes..

Another thing I'm noticing that sometimes theres a static line at the top of the TV.

Another issue when I'm watching tennis, for instance if someone serves, it's almost like there's a lag in the motion. Something I've never seen on a TV before.

Any ideas?

Is your Pro connected directly to the TV?

What's the best way to give Samsung some feedback on future firmware updates ?

If they could lower the crazy high input lag that automotion causes and fix the image ghosting/flickering it causes I'd actually use that for a ton of games. Feels like a simulated 60 fps.

It's virtually impossible because at the very least it introduces a full frame of input lag just for the processing. Ghosting, flickering and artifacts will always be present with this tech as entire frames are being interpolated from the source mostly based on estimation.

More precise interpolation can only come at the cost of additional delay.

For those people experiencing constant flickering and static, try using better HDMI cables and always connect your consoles to the TV directly. Never had any problems with this and 4K and HDR is working perfectly for me on PS4 Pro and Xbox One S using the HDMI cables included with the consoles.

Do you guys get HDR on Youtube on PC (Chrome)? I can see it using the TV's YouTube app, but it doesn't work on PC, it gets converted to SDR. Might be my receiver.

So I was messing around with my settings last night, bumped up the backlight and turned down the brightness. Now Im getting some good blacks but Ive also started to notice a kind of blurring/ghosting that I didnt notice before.

Is there a setting i could be messing with to reduce this?

I read that 1160 is up on the US site now.

Anyone able to confirm whether it has introduced separate HDR settings for Game mode?

I'm starting to think it isn't a bug and is simply a limitation of the TV architecture.

Just updated. There still isn't automatic HDR settings for Game Mode.

Are there not patch notes for these updates ? It's starting to look like they're just cranking out new numbers so people will think they're busy making everything better. One of the updates in the past months or two was supposedly to reduce judder etc but I've not noticed a single difference in any of the firmware updates. Oh, and it also updated automatically while the auto-update is turned off. ... how do you manage to have a "Yes/No On/Off" option not even work ....

I see the update is available in the US but its not available when I go through the TV itself and click on updates says no new updates available..I would just download it directly off the site but Ive never installed an update that way before usually how long does it take for these updates to appear via the TV

Yep. Most vague patch notes ever.

Anyone still having problems with the YouTube app signing out at random? Still having this problem with 1160.

Has anyone figured out how to remedy this?

Still having the Auto Color Space issue on PS4 Pro.
If I do a full reset to factory settings, will I still be on firmware 1154?
If resetting picture settings to default doesn't help, that might be useful.

I also have a slight problem with my YouTube app: the interface kind of stacks all listed videos together on a single spot, and I have to scroll through them to the right to make them appear properly. Happens in every section, my subscribed channels, my favorites, etc
Not a big issue but I wonder if it happened to anyone else?
I also had the random signing out but only once.

It looks like the apps aren't properly closed when I quit them, am I right?
It just looks like my YouTube app stay opened in the background.

Can you actually turn the TV completely off without entering in sleep mode?
It turns on surprisingly fast but I guess that's due to this.

Maybe turning it off for some time could resolve my two issues, the main one being the Color Space of course. I can't fully enjoy playing on my PS4 Pro in those conditions.
Played a bit of Isaac Rebirth yesterday, and the red elements (the bosses' HP gauge is a good example) look oddly washed out and orange instead of vibrant red.

I'm having this problem as well.

There is another thread on the matter here as well:

http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS4-Support/PS4-Pro-random-black-screen-dropouts/td-p/24693423/page/7#thread-replies

Switching to YUV420 solved the problem for me, but it would be good for Sony to fix their firmware so the Pro works as intended.

Okay, anyone who caught my posts a page or two back about PS3 games looking disgustingly bad on this TV, I'm working on it and trying different things and you know what ... using some unconventional settings and it's starting to look really good. I'm still messing with it and trying various things but for one thing, fading the blacks a little actually seems to help older games, this is all odd.

Did you try changing to a high speed cable like people suggested? I used to have the same problem with the HDMI cable that came with the PS4 pro. I haven't had any black screen flickering since I switched. A temporary fix is to turn off UHD color and turn it back on again.

I switched cables with the one I was using on PC and the flickering switched to PC. I think the pack in HDMI is just not very good.

Never had any issues whatsoever. 55" KS7090 user here (Germany). Panel version says "02" on the back ("Made in Slovakia").

Very happy with the panel, no light or color bleed, no judder, perfectly crisp picture, never experienced RGB separation on any firmware. Currently on 1154.

Can we in the EU update the firmware from the US site? We're still stuck on 1154 available from the TV itself.

EU/US firmwares are not compatible I'm afraid. TV will not recognize the update file via USB.

Sorry, but I'm just not inclined to believe you aren't experiencing the issues that this TV clearly has. RGB separation can't be panel dependant as far as I know, it is something that is inherent to the TV/firmware. Just like light bleed. Every KS7000/8000 I've seen has it. What settings are you using on your PS4 pro that you aren't getting blackouts?

If you use YUV420 you won't have any black screens. Auto, however, does cause them. If you don't have the black screens, please share information about the HDMI cable you are using (specifics, because too many comments are so vague about what cable to use).
