I really hope we're not just shown a Xeno X port. I hope for teaser of a new game from Monolith.

I imagine it would take much longer for a brand new Xeno game to be made than just the ~2 year's time since X. I'm not sure if they'd want to show off the game too early, especially when they can just as easily focus on promoting the X port in the short-run and then reveal the new game later on in the year (maybe E3) or in 2018. I'm sure Nintendo would want to avoid revealing games too early right now what with the delays BotW received.

As someone who really likes Bayonetta 2 and considers it a great game, I'd say it's a pretty over-rated game. Don't think I've seen a fanbase that worshops a developer as hard as Platinum Games's fanbase (Not saying you're a fanboy, just speaking generally here)

I am not saying that P* does not have some very vocal fans, I wish they put their money behind the developer more often.

But just calling a game overrated just because some vocal fans are asking for the sequel a game they enjoyed, is pretty much fighting words that trolls use to bait and flame.

How can a game be overrated if so few have even played it? I am back to questioning if that dude I replied to played those games. Opinions are weird because we all can have different feelings from the same thing. There are not enough people out there that have feelings for Bayonetta 2 to be worth the 'overrated' label dude.

You played Bayo2 and dare to call out Platinum fans for loving the dev?
The term Overrated is Overused and you are just baiting those people you are calling out. Just pointing that out, not calling you a troll or something.

Overrated - to have a higher opinion of (someone or something) than is deserved.

My point is you can't say overrated for a niche title that hardly sold enough on the Wii U.

Overrated kinda sends the image of super annoying universal praise. If the game had such high praise show me the sales?

You will find a lot of vocal fans that is all. I loved both those titles got some good hobby time out of them. As niche as they are, they are totally Underrated.

Save Overrated for shit like Final Fantasy that millions get to play on multiple platforms, where those same people put up with the worst mess of a story and gameplay to end up on their year end GOTY lists that shit is overrated. Bayonetta 2 is not in that same league of blind love, first the game was solid, second it does not have the numbers to be labelled overrated.

Bayonetta 2 is a game that was worth praising, if I can finish a game I always want a sequel because it is a rare thing when I spend $60 on a game and played it to the end.

I'm listening to IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat right now and they mentioned that there were only two Nintendo Directs in 2016 (not including franchise specific directs). I really hope that after the Switch is officially announced we will see directs return to a regular schedule again. I get it that Nintendo became a lot more conservative after Iwata's passing, but it would be cool if they returned on an every other month schedule.

Are we in agreement that more Nintendo Directs in 2017 is a must?

Older third party games that should be considered for Switch should include:

(especially if some sold for a discounted price!)

- Prince of Persia Sands of Time HD remake.
- Bayonetta 1+2 or Bayo 2+ Wonderful 101
- Resident Evil 1 Remake + Resi 4
- Dead Rising
- Metal Gear Rising
- Marvel Vs Capcom 3
- Ridge Racer
- Xcom 2
- Borderlands franchise
- Ace Combat

I think any of the Shield TV's PS360 ports are a possibility, and the way Tomb Raider isn't listed as a Shield TV exclusive (when Blacklight: Retribution is) on Nvidia's coming soon page really makes me think it'll show up sooner or later.

Yeah, the Switch definitely put NDs on hold.

I anticipate the frequency of them will pick up. There really was not a lot of reasons to have a Nintendo Direct in 2016. Nintendo was well aware that the main audience that watches them wanted NX news and Nintendo was not ready to talk NX.

You forget they lost Iwata, and Directs were pretty much his thing.

I don't think I need Nintendo Directs, they can change the name to something else :(
No Iwata Asks :(

no going back man, they need to sneak someone fresh and likable out there before things can seem normal again

No I didn't. And honestly say what you want about Reggie but it doesn't really get more likeable than that guy

Their fans likely do. It’s just that Platinum Games’s well…games don’t really appeal to the mainstream and that’s why they don’t sell well

Well I mainly meant over-rated when it comes to the online gaming community. As in, I’d argue it’s to the point where, if you want to point out a criticism in their games, regardless of how nicely and thoughtfully it’s laid out, you’ll get met with a ton of anger

Well I was mainly referring to the online gaming community over-rating than anything else. I mean, if I was to apply your logic, no niche title could ever be over-rated

There’s a difference between loving a developer and worshipping the very ground they walk on. I think they’re great developers and that Bayonetta 2 is a great game. It was one of my favorite games in 2014. Believe me, I’m not some hater. I’m mainly calling out the hardcore toxic fanbase

It’s under-rated among the overall gaming community, absolutely. But within the more hardcore one? Definitely not, not even close

Can’t speak for the newest Final Fantasy as I haven’t played it and likely never will. Some people like it, some don’t. For me, it just doesn’t look appealing and the demos did nothing to convince me it was worth picking up

It most definitely deserves praise and more success than it ultimately ended up getting. But it doesn’t deserve blind worship. The game wasn’t the second coming of Christ or anything

Haha, the MMO fat in Xenoblade X could do with a bit of a trim. A different composer, the scrapping of the cast, a bigger focus on story, and a British dub wouldn't go amiss, either.

It was actually the mixture of Xenoblade X's writing and characterisation with Sawano's music that put me off modern anime.

I agree with this. While I wouldn't be against simply continuing with Directs without Iwata, I think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to find some way to either do it in a different and new way or just replace them with something else.

I've always liked Bill so I wouldn't mind him just taking over in a bigger capacity (although I'm sure he has enough work as it is), but I think it would be really nice for Nintendo to find someone new to do this stuff specifically. Who they could use, I don't know, so I won't go as far as to say they would have to do this, but it would definitely be great for Nintendo if they did find someone.

With the release of Switch we should see a more steady schedule for Directs in 2017. They didn't have much to promote for Wii U or 3DS on 2016 that required frequent Directs.

I have a PS4 and I don't own any Platinum games on it. I am not sure if you understand that some of us do love good games not every Platinum game is worth owning and not everyone has the skill set for some of the titles they create. And yes not everyone loves those types of games.

Just because they have a fanbase does not mean it is wrong of you to not like them.
I purchased The Witcher 3 on PS4 worst $60 I've ever spent, now I am a little more careful about just buying games because they have a mega thread on GAF. I am not going to be the type of dude to tell you to like what I like. Just saying a lot of people out there loved the Witcher 3 not sure why I had no fun with it also not sure why I had no fun with Metal Gear Solid 5 so I tend not to purchase these games anymore since I am not enjoying them as much as I see others in the hobby.

I just named 2 huge titles loved by the masses that I cannot find the heart to play.

Let people love what they love and find what you love.
Platinum Games is like this little underdog that shines when they really put their heart into a title. So I will end up buying things from them that reviews well or funded by Nintendo.
PS. I never purchase Star Fox for my Wii U and have no plans to do so lol

I seriously doubt the next Xeno game is far into development. We all know its coming, so I'd rather wait than have to sit through 3 years of trailers again. Trailers that got progressively worse too. :(

But memes do naturally form around their Directs because they do mini-skits that are actually pretty funny.

The saga between Reggie and Bill is great for example.

But I don't tune in for the next meme in the saga, I hope after the 12th we get some Nintendo stuff at least once per month. I hope they do have enough content for Switch to back that up. That would be a really good sign.

Treehouse stuff does not hurt but don't be as lame as the last Treehouse Zelda video during the Game Awards

Might not bother watching the stream, then. I don't like the story, characters, or music in Xenoblade X. And if the new game is a sequel, I'll know modern Xeno games aren't for me anymore.

Well that might be because the only PS4 games they've made so far have been minor licensed releases, like Transformers or The Legend of Korra. Their first actually big game on the PS4 will be Nier. At any rate, that's not what I meant. I'm not shitting on people for loving the games. Just annoyed by some of the die hard fanaticism some have. That's about it

Yeah, I think it would be best if they don't remaster it. XC is a better overall game and the tech in XCX is great, but they need to make a better game out of it in a sequel

MonolithSoft probably wouldn't be the ones remastering XCX, so it really wouldn't effect development of Xenoblade 3 anyways.

XC HD is more likely. I'd buy it.
Oh I know a remaster is more likely and I'd buy it too but a remake of the game would genuinely have me hyped

I would replay that even if it was made by another team

I can't believe that title ended up on the 3DS like That!

XC is the better game by far but still love Elma a lot and would like to see here again
Well it'd still be the same game so makes sense

Yeah, I don't think the New 3DS had the grunt to give Xenoblade Chronicles justice. They should've picked a different game to port over

Do we know anything about what Monolith Soft are working on now?

Nintendo have been so quiet this past year because they just didn't have anything worth talking about. I guess they felt it was better to hide away for a year than to try and fill Directs with nothing.

I suspect they'll be a bit more vocal more often this year with (hopefully) all the new stuff they're now ready to show off to the world.

If they are porting XCX I want 2 things.

1. More mech designs. There just isn't enough.
2. If they aren't doing a direct sequel, add more story to finish it.

Their next game shouldn't take as long as the last one... Takahashi has said many times that it was their first HD project and that they would use the XCX engine as the foundation for future titles. It's already been nearly 2 years since XCX wrapped productions. Not to mention that we've already heard several seemingly credible rumors about this upcoming project... It's likely to be much further along in development than you think.

If the original team was porting it I could see them adding stuff, but I bet the port ends up a straight port without any enhancements even if it runs Better on Switch

as I linked before I want this tweet to be true https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/801379493780791297

I want something new. XCX had enough good in it to want to get that team another chance, take what they learn and throw in some more

I hope we see the XCX port and Monolith's new game at Switchmas.

Just don't hold anything back, Nintendo. Who cares if some games are 2+ years away, just make those promises. I don't care.
