Gravity Rush 2 Review Thread

No, but as someone who's been doing reviews for 20 years now, I consider a score like that unprofessional. That seriously is getting into the range of "this is a broken mess," and that is 100% not the case with Gravity Rush 2 no matter what your opinion on the gameplay is—unless your review scale is specifically a scale based on personal opinion alone and does not take technical considerations into play, and that being the case is specifically stated as such.

Also, there comes a time when you acknowledge that you have too much personal bias against a certain game, and you excuse yourself from reviewing it because you know you can't give it the judgement it deserves. Let me be clear: "judgement it deserves" doesn't mean a good review—it means a fair one.
Yeah it becomes much more than a simple "muh opinion"

Always can count on those guys

Yup, those surprised me.

I'm kinda salty that I won't be getting the white dress tho...
Thought you get it by just preordering it?

Nah, you get it by preorder. I know Amazon has it.

Physical copies? even still, a game from amazon will only be delivered after a week or more to where I come from, and I rather get it from the nearest place that breaks street date -__-

Cat woman dress looks cooler anyways ;)

Giant bomb quick look is not doing this game any favors

We got several actual reviews that covered the entire game, both glowing and mixed. It'd be weird to be truly bothered by just one 30 min. video. It'd be one thing if that was actually our first good look at the game, but it isn't.

More than enough reviews and gameplay footage for someone to make their decision.

I'm not bothered by it at all. I already have it preordered on PSN I was merely offering a comment on the GB quick look. Wasn't trying to condemn the game or anything

EZ allies reviews i always enjoy just like back on GT. Although their tastes usually are pretty in favor of Japanese gaming sensibilities, so they could be taken as biased compared to a lot of the rest of the western media who by and large, are usually not really particularly into Japanese games unless they are stand out types of works.

GT is the only ones who are going to do a huge retrospective on KH for example or review certain Japanese games in super detail

I'd call an 80 on Metacritic "Good"

Not "Great."

I would call any game 80 to 100 great to amazing.

60 to 79 can be considered okay to good.

50 to 59 is mediocre

the rest range from bad, horrible and abysmal respectively

I know, I'm just saying is all.

Seconded. Good would be around 7 to 7.9. Also from that eza review looks like you can make treasure hunts for other players

Yea, like for example, you'd come across a treasure hunt, complete it, and then afterwards you get to take a photo and make your own.

the game seems divisive. there good scores and average ones.

I wonder what the similarities between the good scores and the bad ones. I don't want to read all reviews tho ain't got time fo dat.

Every site has their inherent bias. I look to EZA for opinions on Japanese games because I know the personalities and how my tastes stack up against theirs, but I also realize that I'm discussing tastes and not objectivity.

All that said, I don't think anyone at EZA is that biased so much as they actually express interest in Japanese games unlike many other western publications. It's not like the crew disses western games either.
Well, ok. Maybe Damiani a bit ;)

Anyway, glad that Damiani enjoyed it. I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a game pre-release.

There's only one bad score actually, unless you consider a score of 6 to be bad instead of average.

41 positive, 5 mixed and 1 bad

Not divisive at all.
Yeah I never get how people can call something divisive when it's overwhelmingly positive with like one review really dragging the score down.

I'm really excited for this, it's a great update to the first one. The demo showed me how much they improved the mechanics.

Lol if it somehow managed to get an 83 MC, that'd be swell "revenge" against FFXV, seeing as how it had to get delayed because of it. I love FFXV and all, but I was slightly butthurt when I first read about the delay lol

Lol. Regardless I have a feeling I will like it more than FFXV and TLG combined.

It's going to be a metacritic battle between yakuza 0 and gh2.

I have no other barometer to base my choice. I want both games but obviously getting both on day 1 doesn't make sense.

gh2 is at 81 metacritic OP is out of date. So we'll see.

My gut puts Y0 at 85-87. It'll be beloved by core Yakuza advocates, resonate very well with those who never gave it a shot due to it having the best balance of quirky with strong gameplay, and it'll be docked some points for being a bit antiquated at parts and for being... well, Yakuza.

What's the usual metascore for yakuza games?

Good reviews! I really need to pick up a PS4 Pro. The exclusives have gotten too good for me to ignore. Well-played, Sony.

Most are in the mid-high 70's, but they've been creeping up as the series has gained more traction in the west. Yakuza 5 is sitting at 83. The same thing happened to Monster Hunter. Another series that took a long time for the west to latch onto. That's a series that started in the high 60's and 70's and the most recent entry is at 85.

http://www.metacritic.com/publication/slant-magazine?filter=games

For 358 reviews, this publication has graded:
25%higher than the average critic
4%same as the average critic
71%lower than the average critic
On average, this publication grades 8.6 points lower than other critics. (0-100 point scale)
Average Game review score: 65

That said, this is the first page, which seems pretty fair to me:

I scanned the other games they gave "30" to (which is actually 1.5/5 stars on their scale, fwiw), and it doesn't seem totally ridiculous for Gravity Rush 2 to fall that low. The Order: 1886 is down there, as is Just Cause 3. Seems like the magazine just rates things low sometimes. Given that the site's bread and butter seems to be media reviews in general (which tend to use low star ratings a lot more), as opposed to specifically game reviews, 1.5 stars doesn't seem like an unusually harsh rating given the publication's history.

Do I agree with it? I don't know, since I haven't played the game! I hope I don't agree with it when I get the game, because I really want to like it. I'm just saying that it doesn't seem like the author or publication had an agenda or anything.

I read the 3/10 review..

I know review whining is annoying, but Jesus Christ...

Honestly I dont think I have ever played a 3/10 game in my life. 3/10 is outright broken or unplayable. I really cant see how can someone spin in any capacity that a game like this is a 3/10.

This is an issue I have with game reviewing. Everyone has a different range for the bare minimum acceptable. If a game launches broken, why would it even get a score? They frequently do. I agree mostly though on if something is getting a 3 it should be just straight shit. When you're scoring a game a 3 and nearly everyone else is nowhere near that then it seems like you're reaching.
