Was bummed about that (also bummed about Peach seemingly being back in her role as damsel in distress in the Super Mario Odyssey trailer). Aside from that, this trailer was incredible.

Yeah, I did a grumpy sigh with Bowser King Kong-ing it with Peach, and did another grumpy sigh with Zelda's scenes. There obviously could be more to her, but after the treatment of FFXV's leading heroine and being optimistic with the trailers, I trust no one!

Come on dude it's just your standard anime dub. If you wanted VA you knew what you were getting.

8-4 has done some fantastic localization/dubbing work for Nintendo, so they've had a high standard in the past. I'm guessing it's Treehouse for Zelda, sadly, but I guess we'll have to wait and hear more.

The English VA sounds pretty bad. Hoping for Japanese option.

I feel like we need to repeat this everywhere as much as possible so it gets seen. I too, want a Japanese voice option. HEY, NINTENDO, WE WANT A JAPANESE VOICE OPTION.

JAPAAAAAAAAAAAN

You know I bet if Link was female or Zelda was playable you'd STILL get kidnapped because lol you're a girl and what did you think would happen

I'm putting stock on gerudo girl or are we writing her off for not being Zelda?

I mean Zelda is the title character, and one who has been stuck in a particular role for most of the series.

Now I hate to make Witcher comparisons, but something like Ciri from W3 would be interesting. Can still be running from something but also kick a lot of ass as well.

We don't entirely know what Zelda's role in the story is or what she's involved in, it looks like she's the original owner of the Shiekah Slate and failed to stop Calamity Ganon, other than that we have no idea what the context is.

It may very well be that her role is just what one'd expect, but I wouldn't lose hope just yet.

See this shit is just garbage. You really wanna side with Nintendo on this one which is clearly a pretty big fuck you to their core base?

eh? No, I'm saying it should have been Switch exclusive from the beginning. Not wanting them to axe the WiiU version now.

I saw her as a shattered person who made mistakes to lead her land to failure, not a "classic crying woman". It felt emotional to me in a good way, not in a misogynistic way.

Ummm, no matter why she is crying, there's still a "classic crying woman" IN THE GAME dude

The japanese va was actually quite good. I'm happy. The english one is awful though, much more like i expected. I was never a fan of the Idea of dubbing the game, dubs are usually bad, but it was "modern" and all that and Nintendo "needs to keep with the times". So... Much rather stay with the text ballons.

Meh, it was a cool trailer for a Nintendo game but this trailer I feel epitomizes the issue with Zelda- its one step away from becoming a legitimate, dare I say meaningful example of games as art, but Nintendo always holds back- like this trailer shows great potential, but the art-style of the game combined with the inevitable E10+ rating just goes to show how Nintendo is still targeting a "kiddy" audience as opposed to the core gamer.

Imagine if this game had an aesthetic that's like a cross between Witcher and Dark Souls, with a story in which Zelda is NOT a damsel in distress, one that embraces the darker aspects of Zelda lore rather than burying it- with a darker and mature tone, this franchise could truly become something else, like the videogame equivalent of Lord of the Rings or heck, without even needing to go crazy, becoming the videogame equivalent of the Avatar cartoons.

I just feel like Nintendo devalues the artistic and emotional aspects of their games, they still seem to think of videogames as toys as opposed to an artistic medium.

I don't fucks with this opinion at all...

I love how he brought up that Zelda could be the vidgame equivalent of the Avatar cartoons... that was exactly what this game reminds me of, down to the whole frozen hero to be resurrected, the different tribes and landscapes, the atmosphere... it's all rather unique.

I love that the Zoras are sharks and the Lizalfos are chameleons.

Do you actually speak Japanese? If not, how could you tell?

The title has been The Legend of Zelda and the Dynamic has been Princess or similar needs the aid of the hero defeating the villain.

Zelda is in the title but I always thought it was more representative of the Legend of the Triforce

Would love to see the full switch up of male Zelda female Link, but I'm not gonna write this game off because its not that like some in here.

Hell female Zelda and Link sounds best, the two from different classes befriend each other in defeating the villain.

I agree that Zelda should have long moved past being a damsel in distress because FFS NINTENDO IT'S 2017 but completely disagree about the grimdark stuff. Zelda doesn't need to be grimdark to be considered artistic.

What's wrong with saving females....

Is the trope just not allowed period anymore? We havent even seen how the game plays out.

No, this shouldn't be a "crying is bad no matter what". In the trailer it sounds like she's been fighting for a long time and finally broke down for a bit, which could easily happen to anyone of any gender. For all we know that's the only moment of "weakness" that Zelda will even have. It gets really old seeing people overreact to a 2 second scene in a trailer and turning it into "Zelda is nothing but a damsel in distress, Aonuma is the worst, Japanese are the worst, etc".
