Canadian Gaming Deals & Discussion 8: Don't Move Here For The Deals

Not open for further replies.
Just came back from EB. Just traded in these games for the Switch:

Kingdom Hearts 3D DDD - $20
Tales of Xillia PS3 - $20
Monster Hunter 4 - $22
SMT4 - $8
Pokemon Rumble Blast - $14
Pokemon Y - $14
Cod BlOps 2 X360 - $7
Mario Kart - $50

With my other trade ins, I just gotta pay $168 for my Switch. Dope.

So Tales of Xillia is $10 before it doubled? Website says PS3 games don't double, and someone on RFD says they got $6 for theirs before promotions. However, it is on the list of $8 games (outdated though) and I could use it for the 3 games for 1 Switch game promo.

Has anyone been allowed to pre-order Switch Pro Controllers at an EB Games or any online outlet yet? I've been told they're not accepting them yet.

Was told the same, when asked if they had any idea when they'd start taking orders they said stores have no info on the accessories yet but to call sometime next week and hope something changes.

Went through both the $8, $12, and posted values by people here and RFD. Out of my games that I might be willing to trade in, I couldn't find values for these:

EB Lists as >$12:
Dragon Ball Xenoverse [PS4]
Harvest Moon: New Beginning [3DS]

EB Lists Between $8-12:
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny [PS3]
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity [3DS]
Mario Tennis Open [3DS]

Anyone know the values for these?

No luck getting my Wii u Zelda to the Switch version. I'll try again tomorrow. If not what's another $30ish on top of the $450 switch right?

...

Right?

Pre-deal values I got on a few games today. >$14 I had doubled and the three below I got the $26.67 for:

Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) - $24
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) - $25
Gears of War 4 (Xbox One) - $23
Super Luigi U (Wii U) - $8
Wonderful 101 (Wii U) - $8
Zelda Majora's Mask (3DS) - $12

Total trade value of $224.01, so not bad at all.

I with my $144 toward the Switch plus the $190 I had from previous trades/preorders/gift cards, I won't pay much out of pocket for the system come March.

So, someone in RFD was able to received an extra 5% of the trade-in value when he presented his Red/Gold edge card. For those who used their card, did you see any 5% on your receipt?

Jeez, $56 for Mario Maker because of the promo, that's insane! Plus trading that game in is a crime, unless it truly does have a Switch version. Seeing all these trade-in's is making me sad, haha.

Did anyone trade in Splatoon or Twilight Princess HD for the Switch Promo? I'd totally sell those if they're $50 after the double. Especially Splatoon since Splatoon 2 will basically replace it anyway.

I had the foresight to look up my Bayonetta 1/2 pack online beforehand at least, so I'll be Kijiji-ing that dude.

I do have a question. my billing address is OK; however, when I entered my info, I just put my first & last name. For some dumb reason, my mastercard had my middle initial as part of my first name, which I forgot to enter as part of my billing info.

Will MC deny the charges when Best Buy tries to charge my card?

Something similar happened to me, my billing address was my old address and in my rush I only changed the shipping. About 5 hours after getting my confirmation email I got an email saying there was a problem with my payment method and to call customer service. Called them and let them know the mistake, they fixed it and no other issues.

They run a check to make sure the credit card is legit before actually charging. So if it has been a business day since your order I'd say you're okay

Thanks for the heads up.

Actually, this will be a good test. See what happens but just happy I manage to get a pre-order in.

Is anyone surprised Nintendo didn't port Super Mario Maker to the Switch as a launch title?

I'm surprised they have so few launch titles when they barely released Wii U games last year.

It would be nice to know if Mario Maker, Smash, and Xenoblade X were for sure coming to Switch. I know they have all been rumoured, but if they were announced, I would at least be able to trade in MM and Xenoblade right now for their really high values.

Does EB Games have more than what is on their site for pre-order? Specifically, this is my current list of games I am looking at:
Super Mario Odyssey
Splatoon 2
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Arms
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Disgaea 5 Complete
Fire Emblem Warriors
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Apparently, they might be trying to give third parties some breathing room, in case they overcrowd the market with their own titles which may lead to lower third party sales. Dunno if it'll pay off, but I think some titles Nintendo are probably sitting on

Helps explain why Splatoon 2 and MK8 Deluxe are not launch

They gave third parties breathing room with the Wii U, 3DS, Wii, DS, and GameCube... speculation like that is just making excuses for Nintendo. Real answer is that they didn't have enough software for the year and needed to delay games that are most likely in playable form

They're putting Zelda out at launch - they probably figure if you're buying a Switch at launch that'll last until Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Also, they're doing seemingly a game a month until E3. Remember when they went five months after Wii U launch without launching anything 1st party, then they dropped LEGO City?

See, I take issue with this. Not that you're necessarily wrong, but that your purport your answer as truth, when unless you have definite proof, it is still speculation. Wii, DS, and 3DS all have/had strong 3rd party support. I'm really not going to get into an internet fight for a corporation, but maybe you can take your hostility to the other many Nintendoomed threads that will be popping up over the long generation.

What third parties???

It's not actually clear to me how Mario Maker would work on the Switch in its current form, since you can't use both the handheld screen and the TV at the same time. All the level design tools seem tied to the touchscreen, and it'd be really weird for Nintendo to release a game and then force you to only play it in handheld mode.

Jeez. I never should have even said anything.

Konami, Activision, Ubisoft. Those three in particular in the launch line-up are represented. Sega will be certainly later with Sonic Mania and Puyo Puyo Tetris. EA will pull their support again, as usual. But the former companies are important, particularly Ubisoft and Sega I would think.

The fact that said screen has touch-capability in the first place seems absurd given that none of the games they've demonstrated even utilize it as an "optional" control method in non-docked mode. Even games that had touch integrated into them the first time around like Splatoon. Granted, you have to introduce alternate control methods for docked play but they've effectively removed touch completely from the equation. And it's not like they've trotted out any apps that utilize it, either.

I'm presuming it's just there for quick and messy ports of tablet games down the road.

If I was a publisher I wouldn't certainly put my best Switch games out on the same day as Zelda. It will be the best selling launch title for sure.

Ubisoft is more or less there as goodwill. Rayman Legends is already on everything and Steep kind of bombed. They are always there for Nintendo in their own way so it's kind of good. The good stuff will come later with the Rabbids x Mario game.

In JP SE is doing something similar with Setsuna and DQ Heroes. To show they are there Day1 but more will come eventually DQX-DQXI-New Project from BD team.

But yes keep caution in a sense that considering Nintendo's history and the mobile hardware don't expect lot of AAA multiplatforms being adapted for it.

So going off of what people have posted here

Twilight Princess HD
Mario Maker
Mario Kart 8
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Hyrule Warriors
Pokken Tournament
Final Fantasy 15
Triforce Heroes

plus $2.26 should get me a Switch. Honestly, with the exception of the first 2, I'm done with the others, so this would be a great deal for me.

But I can't help but feel hesitant. If it weren't for Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I wouldn't even be considering this. Putting aside the games, Nintendo just hasn't sold me on the console itself. The controller is kinda weird, and expensive. It only has a 32GB HDD. Paid online, though the norm, isn't exactly helping. And the whole impression I've gotten since the reveal is that this console was put together quickly in an attempt to save this gen from Nintendo's horrible home console sales, but it has already failed before releasing. This is gonna come off as really pessimistic, but I think this console will die a much quicker death than the WiiU, and will be destined to have a small, but very good libray, just like the WiiU. The thing is, it was easier to swallow with the WiiU because it was cheaper, could use Wiimotes, was backwards compatible and was a bigger jump in graphics from the Wii.

There's also a part of me that's wondering if the Switch 2 or whatever will be backwards compatible, and if I know it will be I'd skip this, but I can't hold that against the Switch and is an entirely different topic, but me just considering it doesn't speak well of my view of the Switch.

Putting the negativity aside, $400 was the price of the PS4, which seemed worth it when it launched, so $400 for the Switch shouldn't be bad either. Same for the controllers. I couldn't use the DS3; why should I expect to use the Wiimote? And the Switch controller can be 2 controllers for multiplayer games, and it's not often I need more than 2 controllers. Regarding the HDD, I have never bought a digital game on a Nintendo home console, and I don't think that will change with the Switch. 32GB should be enough, and the only reason I ran out of space on the WiiU was because of a free Tropical Freeze and Xenoblade Chronicles X optional data install. Also, I've never needed a huge catalog of games. In fact, I liked that the WiiU had a small, quality catalog. Who cares about backwards compatibility? I've got the WiiU, and if the Switch 2 can play Switch games, then I can sell the Switch console for like $150 down the line. Not bad considering the games I'm trading for it now would get me $250 if I sold privately.

I guess I just have to ask myself would I regret doing this trade if the console dropped to $250 by the holiday, because realistically that would probably be when I'll be playing my first Switch game, and $250 is probably what I can get for those 8 games now. I do kinda want to keep Mario Maker and Twilight Princess HD. I guess I could trade my backup WiiU instead. Hmmmmmm....

As someone who still owns Atari 2600 games it makes me sad to see people trading games in.

Nooooo, don't make me feel guilty; I like collecting, too. Triforce and Pokken don't seem to be my kind of thing, I have the collectors edidion of XCX and portable Hyrule. I plan to pick up FF15 again once it's complete, same for MK8Switch. Only 2 I haven't considered are TPHD and Mario Maker, which is why I'm thinking maybe I should keep those. Though maybe I can pick up Mario Maker 3DS instead.

Hmm, I'm not big on trading in games but maybe throwing in games that have a good Switch counter-part is worth it because I was probably going to buy them anyways.

-Mario Kart 8
-Splatoon
-Smash (Wii U + 3DS)

Could probably knock down $100 or so off the price. I would rebuy MK8, Splatoon 2 looks to be more of the same, and though Smash isn't announced I'm sure they're not going to leave it on the Wii U.

the only games im thinking of trading in are the ones that I could get on switch instead so i might trade in
Mario kart 8
Splatoon
Smash bros
New Super Mario bros U
Wind Waker HD cause I don't like wind waker

No I will not trade in bayonetta, pikmin 3 and that sort. I don't even feel like trading in smash, splatoon and kart cause I have at least 4 controllers that can be used for mario kart, 6 controllers for smash and splatoon online is free on wii u

Is it worth getting EB games platinum card for this?

I'm very confused because nothing is selling me on the system game wise and extra controllers are expensive as shit; sigh. seems like id have 2 miniature controllers for a long time. Also I can't feel but think that they will release and upgrade in 2 years time. Just not confident in the purchase.

If you are going to trade-in just a few games, then no. You should be getting at least $300 on it to make it worth it.

Also, if there's nothing selling on you on the system then don't buy it. It's obvious that you don't want it

Sorry for the dumb question.

I'm guessing my local EB Games is sold out of Switch pre-orders. But, I just saw the trade in deals and definitely want to get one now. Even if they're sold out of pre-orders is it possible to still get the trade in deals towards the Switch?

It's mentioned on their site "While pre-order supplies last". I would assume if it is sold-out they won't be taking any trade-ins anymore. The best you could do is give them a call first and see if they still have any allocation for pre-orders. With that, you won't be wasting your time coming
