This is from Heat right?

I don't know why but I'll always feel that it's one of the more awkward performances from Pacino.

It was funny how so much of the interest in Heat stemmed from DeNiro and Pacino sharing a scene. Throughout the film DeNiro (and Kilmer) acted quite well while Pacino embraced his over the top nonsense that he's been stuck in for the last few decades and made an ass out of himself. It's a shame he fell so far off the rails as he used to be quite good.

Pacino was fantastic in the insider, his best work since the 70s. His performance in heat is hit or miss but when he's good in there he's amazing.

Ass out of himself is absurd hyperbole for that one.

Apparently Snyder is still the top pick at WB for Man of Steel 2 but we'll see how that goes.
MoS2 definitely needs a new director. A fresh look.

MoS, BvS, and JL is already a Superman trilogy of sorts. Zack's Superman arc should be complete by the end of JL.

Yeah dude should take a break from constant comic adaptations for a few years. Too much scrutiny and pressure and 3 dc movies is more than enough.

Maybe come back with new gods or some shit in like 5 or 6 years.

Lotta people would balk at it but I wanted to see his Seven Samurai Star Wars project. They'd probably step in and do major reshoots like with Rogue One. What's left, I think he's shown a willingness to disrupt the sacred concepts some have about these nerd properties, for better or worse.

Based on some of the stuff he's said about Justice League, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't cannibalize some of those ideas for it.

The Insider and I would also pick out Insomnia. He's fantastic in those movies.

But you gotta admit that he hams it the fuck up in Heat. I like the movie just fine btw.

As for the conversation about Snyder's future, he would make a badass New Gods movie. He's the guy I think of when I want some weird, grimy comic stuff. The only guy that comes close is Robert Rodriguez but he's all style with no profundity which Zack, on the other hand, has going for him. I really want him to unwind for awhile and work on something smaller to avoid burnout even if that means I have to sacrifice a MoS2 with flashbacks of Zod being a conquering badass on other worlds.

I hope Sinestro is still a good guy for a while.

I know it happened in the first (never actually saw it) and Dr Strange, so it would be a little worn down.

But I love when heroes legitimately fall instead of just pretending.

It's all opinions, but at the time and still today I felt he was by far the weakest link in that film. I loved the film itself, but there were moments in which I laughed at how much he overacted in that movie (something he has done quite a bit since then). My frustration with Pacino is that he can be so good when he's on, but he squandered so many roles by hamming it up. I wonder if it's the fact that so many people overrate Scarface which led him down that path.

With that said, you're right that he was very good in the Insider.

You're right that the Sinestro story is much more interesting when we know how good he was before his fall.

JUSTICE LEAGUE IS ‘LIGHTER’ THAN BATMAN V SUPERMAN, AFFLECK SAYS

Lol. Fucking hate this emphasis on 'lighter entertainment' in all their interviews. Fuck you, critics, for making this happen and your badgering on why there's no FUNNNNNN in DCEU.
Yup, BvS is just a bad movie if JL is poorly scripted, acted and directed, JL being more fun won't help. Most Critics did point out all its weakness not sure why WB and DC can only see the need more fun and not the other criticisms....

The reaction to the "lighter tone" shift has been more bothersome than the shift itself.

EDIT: This is completely unrelated, but never ever ever let me walk into a political thread in the OT again. I've never been so fucking angry in my goddamned life.

Because the only way you can show those other things you mentioned is through the movie itself.

Because an overwhelming amount of criticism wasn't nuanced and formed a cliche of it being dark and dreary. They are responding in kind.

Guys, you can't have Aquaman and fucking ancient aliens and still keep the tone from BvS. It wouldn't work, they have to lighten up.

Am I slightly worried they might go too far down that road ala Age of Ultron? Yes, but there's nothing wrong with the tone shift itself.

Didn't Snyder also say that BvS would be as dark as the DCEU ever gets? The plan was to go lighter from the beginning once they got through MoS and BvS. JL by it's very nature has to be lighter. It's a bunch of superheroes teaming up to do good in the world. Movies that come after that will follow suit.

BvS is not dark, it may be gritty but dark? nah.
Batman didn't get raped, so it's not dark.

They always said JL was going to be lighter than BvS. From before BvS got shelled by critics. It only makes sense... Only question is whether it'll be a natural progression or a desperate, tension breaking, quip machine of a tone shift.

Prior to release Snyder and Terrio were throwing out the typical Empire Strikes Back comparison. And of the countless movies and other media to fall back to that short hand for a darker middle chapter, BvS mostly got it right. It sees all the heroes at their lowest points only beginning to overcome by the ending. I share the common concern there'll be a tonal whiplash but at least BvS ends on a hopeful note.

+ the movies he's being asked about could be seen as one of the reasons his movie is a flop.

I'm talking about the inability to juggle Live By Night post, JL filming, and Batman prep/writing all at the same time.

Yeah, I don't know where and how he found the time to even make Live by Night.

I haven't had a chance to look for it myself to confirm but someone on the subreddit mentioned the BoF guy clarified in a Twitter convo that the "mess" is about them going overboard with jokes in JL and they aren't landing.

Take the humour from Justice League or Young Justice and it will be great... but the trailer they released doesn't give me confidence...

Are they ever in comic book movies?

The jokes in the trailer reminded me of JL/JLA.

I'd rather they have great character jokes that fit rather than being funny for the sake of it. I liked the Barry "I need friends" bit cause that works for the character they have going on. Bruce going "hehehe I heard you talk to fish" doesn't.

For as quippy as the MCU has become, there are a good deal of jokes that land.

The only humor element of JL that has me worried is Ezra. He can become Eisenburg 2.0 if they're not careful with overdoing the manic personality.

It's not a great line, but Ben sold it.

Plus, for all we know, a decent amount of that footage could have been reshot. It was pretty much pre-alpha.

Mainly I just want each character to have their own voice. That's partly why Age of Ultron really sucked and what Civil War got mostly right, to use recent examples with the same group of characters.

While not a joke per se, I liked the back and forth between Bruce and Diana in the trailer.

WW: He said he'll fight with us?
BW: More or less.
WW: More more or more less?
BW: Probably more less.
WW: He said no.
BW: He said no.

Edit: I have no idea why I went with WW - Wonder Woman and BW - Bruce Wayne. Seemed logical at the time.
