I know it's a hassle but at the very least I think you should be able to get more than $150 if you sell your Wii U privately. So there's that.
If they can somehow sell the WiiU more than $170, then it is better to sell privately. However, if you can't get it more than that then just do the trade.

Microplay is giving $120 for Wii U's right now which is their regular value. They might be doing a trade in deal which is usually 20% extra towards a freshly launching console.

darn.. I was able to apply the 20% off pre-order discount on Battlefield 1 and Watch dogs 2 when they dropped to 49.98 and got them for like 42$ all in each.

but now on amazons website it says "The 20% discount applies to an items List Price and does not apply to an items already discounted price."

so that sucks ;/ (re: Resident evil and for honor price drops)

BTW I think someone mentioned that if you can't get a Switch pre-order from EB right now, you can trade your stuff toward something different (like Switch games), and then transfer the credit to the console when it's available?

Is that true?

Should be. Done this a half dozen times over the past couple of years, including last week, including swapping preoder game credit for prepaid eshop cards.

The EBGames at White Oaks mall in London only had 39 of their 54 allocated grey switches sold for pre-orders. They are out of Neon. I prefer not waiting for Amazon to ship my console so I'm going to cancel my pre-order with them.

If someone cracks the switch so games can be played off flash cards it's gonna sell like mad, did Nintendo learn how to prevent that yet?

EB only has a very small selection of Switch games up for preorder, only one of value being Zelda.

If you can, please send a tweet to EBgamescanada or facebook message them to remind them to add Arms, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, Street fighter, and pretty much anything amazon and best buy already have listed.

Called 4 EBGames, all sold out. Like, wtf. Calgary by the way. Can't do the trade in

Apparently $400 is not as much of a deterrent as I thought

Pre-ordered mine at South Center yesterday around 11am... not sure if that's one you called, if so, too bad it's all gone now.

So like the past, I can just trade in for the Switch games and transfer the value if/when they get more consoles right? My local store says no more console preorders, I'm not really willing to go out further to a different store since I don't want go pick up somewhere else.

Is there a list for the 'trade 3' deal or some kind of minimum? Doesn't say anything on the site.

No way am I pre-ordering a switch at $400!!!.......snagged a red and blue on BB when they were available on Friday afternoon. Not to wait and see if amazon will get the zelda special edition.

Lexxus is kindly maintaining a list of double trade-in values, but in the case that the trade-in value of a game is higher than $13 ask for the double trade in value to apply instead if they don't realize to mix-and-match.

Microplay still exists? Man, I haven't heard that name in AGES!

Yeah, there's a handful of them in Ontario still but I think most of them are in Quebec since that's where their parent company is. Only place to get retro games and some Japanese collectibles in my city.

Honestly, I get it that people like to own new things but if you have a Wii U already, just get Zelda on it and play the wait and see game. There's no way it won't drop in price over here with those outrageous prices, people already don't want to spend too much as is under the current economy.

I remember when Nintendo did that with the 3DS just 4 months in, so it's entirely possible for it to reoccur. Again if you have the money rolling around, drop the dough on it. If money is tight or you're still on the edge, remember that consumers will always get their way eventually with some patience.

Also I haven't seen or heard of Microplay in almost a decade now. My god the memories. Is the one in NDG Montreal still around?

Best wishes.

Why are you against people getting it immediately. Maybe people want to be early adopters to support Nintendo and help it become a success. Maybe people don't want there to be a price drop immediately since that means the console is struggling and would be another Wii U. Maybe, a system that can sustain itself with a healthy ecosystem means more than spending an extra $50. Or maybe people see value in the Switch at $400.

I understand that you don't see value in it, but I'm not going to sit here and judge you on your decision and I don't think you should be judging other people either.

Thanks! and thanks to Lexxus too.

I got Mario 3D Land during Christmas for $14.99 to replace a copy I traded in years ago...but I used Rewardzone certificate so I paid $5. It's too hard to resist that I basically get $20 free if I trade in and get $27. I guess I'm gonna get rid of it again, wasn't gonna play it for a while anyways.

lol there's something about Mario 3D Land and trade deals

Years ago it was on sale somewhere for $10 so I got it and traded toward a 3DS XL at Future Shop (think it was trade 5 games to get it free)

This time I happen to have a digital copy now thanks to the New 3DS bundle from a few months ago. So the physical copy I've had since 2011 is expendable...

I was of this mindset until I saw the EB trade in offer. I don't touch my wii u so trading that in plus a game or 2 got me to a switch price we won't see in canada for literally years. In fact if you don't use your wii u much and want a switch, you would have been foolish to not take advantage of that offer. Same with if you have a buncha games you never touch laying around.

This is actually the smarter approach than waiting and paying a higher price later. That and people can do what makes them happy :p

Was that a code? I still want the game but digital costs more than physical. If I have a digital copy I can't sell or trade it which is why I want a digital one lol.

Nah it was preloaded

Damn...

I traded in

Fallout 4
Pokemon Rumble 3ds
3d Land

Got about 56 bucks.

I'm gonna try to finish Star Fox and might trade it in.

Seriously debating trading in Splatoon. Finished single player last night.

EDIT Lol the guy at EB was kind of mean though. The girl that helped me was nice. I asked if I can combine the promos and the guy answered and said no. Whatever though I can combine it myself later.

Btw they only have these in the system for preorder gamewise
Just Dance
Zelda
Skylanders
Lego City (i think)

The USD to CAD conversion hurts it a lot. At 300$ it wouldn't be that bad. People that want it should really do the trade in at EB. Worst case is that you can trade the Switch again when the XL or new version of the joy-con comes out.

It seems Nintendo is targeting the initial release at the fans that go "All in" and Nintendo has cultivated that audience dearly over the years. Accessories prices seems to hint at this. Over the last few years they started releasing stuff targeted at big spenders. Countless Amiibos that unlocks exclusive things in games, 3DS refreshes : 3DS XL, N3DS XL, N3DS with tons of expensive faceplates, N3DS Limited editions that didn't come with their respective games so you have to buy the game on top of it, an official Sun/Moon double back, A Fire Emblem games with 3 different versions and 2 rounds of DLC with content gated behind 4 amiibos, a Smash Bros with tons of DLC characters and stages, VC not compatible between all platforms and you either gets the option of an upgrade fee or have to buy again and you could keep coming up with new examples.

Seems to be working and good for them. In this very thread some people already have over 4 3DS and are buying every available colors of the Joy-Con and complaining they can't yet pre-order the accessories for the Switch. Seems a pretty good launch for Nintendo.

lol, what? That's it? Well, I guess I can just move things around once it's in the system. I'll be trading tomorrow and don't want any of the values to drop.

While everyone is frantic looking around for pre-orders on expense Snap! controllers...

So what should I trade my stuff towards if I want to move the credit around when they finally add Switch games? I want to go tomorrow before values drop.

Went in to a local Walmart to see if they're taking pre-orders and their employees said that they'll only be taking them online and not in-store. As an aside, apparently Amazon France still has a few Switch units available for those who wish to drop more than $400 CAD + tax on the system and wait a couple of days for it to ship: https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01M6ZGICT/

Just wait for The Source or another retailer to start taking pre-orders.

I wonder if these prices are nation-wide. One of my local stores has a white Pro Controller.

These SDM clearances are never nation wide and always store by store. Doesn't hurt to check out your local one with electronics, but don't get your hopes up.

$45.. was that always the Canadian MSRP? Not that I'd ever buy this.. but yikes. That removes it completely from any sort of impulse buy.

I'm preordering a switch because:

Nintendo has a good track record of their hardware not breaking down

Potential Ambassador program

If we get 8 poorly emulated Gamecube titles, with Gamecube VC never coming to the system. Then.. I actually do think it'll be worth it. My first time beating Minish Cap was through the ambassador games. It was a hefty price to pay.. but glad I have them.

The people who were able to get the 3DS right before the price drop and price protect it while still getting the ambassador games got the best deal.

Just watch a video on game informer that had the neon blue & red joy con controllers and I have to say that I'm glad I was able to pre-order that version of the console. Looks really good.

Now I just have to hope BB doesn't cancel my order for some stupid reason. (been a day so far).

Each of those stores are probably getting less than a dozen. You don't think there are more than 50 people with more money than brains?

Unlikely. The smallest EB around here, that normally gets half the allocation that the other stores get, had 40 Switch available, and they are gone.

17 of the top 20 selling items in the the Video Game category on Amazon.ca are Switch products. The exchange rate hurts, but Nintendo is popular here, and people are clearly excited about the platform.
