Dragon Quest Heroes II Is Downgraded On Nintendo Switch Compared To PS4 Version

Actually if they dare to take effort and de-make assets, then I wish them going even further so they can actually keep 60fps (unlocked is fine), something PS3/Vita version couldn't achieve.

Pretty sure they up-rendered the Vita version. Ain't going anywhere but 30FPS.

so why is nintendo advertising this as a home system then?

Switch is like a chameleon. It changes its purpose when it's convenient.

"No, it's totally a handheld. Look at those benefits."
"No, it's actually a home console. Look at those benefits."

I'm pretty glad the Switch has gotten us to the point where the things worth discussing are HD resolutions, minor geometry differences, 60 vs 30 fps, and graphical effects. Like man, this is some small stuff to me for a handheld.

Sure. But it isn't a handheld. Nothing about the system other than its relative portability places it in the realm of true handhelds like the 3DS, Vita, DS, PSP, etc. If you don't think a large percentage of Switch owners will play primarily on their TVs, you're crazy. Even Reggie himself said it's a home console you can take with you on the go.

Nintendo has never called the Switch a handheld. Once.

If there's one thing they are consistent about, it's that they call the Switch a home console.

By the way, how come it's still not confirmed for the West?
Well I figure they'll try to sell as much copies of 2 at full price on PS4 before selling 1+2 at the same price on Switch, heh.

There really are no benefits when looking at is as a console in my opinion besides covering up the price

As a console it's weak, has little memory, and is missing a lot of ports like an Ethernet or optical out port.

No one cares to reupload the photos on IMGUR? Why hotlink directly with a chance of things getting overloaded or taken down? So silly...

Anyone else saved the images because I don't see it on OP.

Fuck Ruliweb.

So Switch can run the same games as PS4 just downgraded, exactly as people have been saying. Its not a case of it being impossible to port PS4 games to, because the modern architecture is there. Its just a case of what sacrifices are made.

And looking at the trailer, even barely 30FPS!

They have time to optimize, but they probably won't. They probably straight up plopped OpenGL code from the Vita version, thought it ran well enough, and are making ready for March.

This isn't the PS4 version.

Steep is a better example of what you're saying.

Wish Nintendo would come out with a console that has current generation graphics for once. Not worth 299 just to play mario, imo obviously.

I don't think a game that looks like a port from the Vita version is a good example

That's what it looks like. I'm not expecting PS4 but Switch should be able to handle this better than we are seeing.

This would be no issue considering its a handheld as long as the framerate is stable. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case.

Not too surprising. At least Switch buyers get the two games for the same price PS4 owners are being charged for one.

Reverse Mass Effect Wii U scenario.

Are there comparison pics of Steep?

It's not going to stop people from using it to whenever criticism comes up. Reggie will be called a liar first before that hill is abandoned. Wait for when the topics swing and we're examining its failings during portable use. All of a sudden it'll that dope home console magic trick.

This game is on PS4, PS3 and Vita. It's not really a good example for that kind of thing.

Just think of it as a suped up WiiU then.

I'm waiting for them to go multiplatform.

Hoping Switch is the final straw tbh.

I'm sure Nintendo deserves some criticism here and there for some of their decisions, but isn't this going a little too far? Is it really okay to literally hope for a company to fail?

umm...we dont have official specs of Nintendo do we? I've never seen them anyway. Browsing GAF and other forums, a few weeks back I was under the impression the Switch would be a little bit weaker than X1, DQ is hardly pushing the PS4 to its limit, so yeah, I wouldn't expect to see such a big downgrade in quality with a port like this, especially not one of 60fps vs. 30fps.

So the "Shocking" peanut gallery mocking the OP for creating this thread....Yeah, plz stop, the difference is jarring.

Gee, it's almost as if launch games for a system aren't properly optimized.

(Not saying that proper optimization would make it look like PS4, but they probably could have left in more effects.)

However Nintendo wants to market the Switch as, it's a portable-console hybrid system, which is what the system's capability is predicated on. And to me, what matters more is on the portable end of things, and I think this has potential for becoming one of the best eras of console-portable parity in generations. If I cared much more about the console side, certainly I'd be disappointed, but even then, we're each entitled to our own opinions about what is an acceptable level of software downgrade. Having lived with console and handheld gaming for a long time, certain components of game design stick out for me as worse than others where ports are concerned, but the things pointed out here aside from framerate (if it is at an unplayable level even) are hardly the stuff made for outrage.

But it's a Vita port. And a quick one at that.

Yeah the DQ twitter page hasn't even mentioned these versions so i don't think it's coming to the west yet

Some US retailers have it up on their sites. Maybe SE is waiting until the PS4 version of DQH 2 is out in April before announcing the localization, or something.

well if this is just a quick launch thing, that's cool...

But if it's what we can expect from just about every 3rd party port, I think it's worthy of discussion. Regardless, I'm just defending OP here, the jabs were unnecessary this being based off Vita isn't something everyone will just know automatically lol... It being a one-off Vita port and not representative of what Switch can really do is great news however.
