It really didn't. At all. Breathing through your skin is NOT an excuse to do close up ass shots of the character.
Her character had significantly more backstory and heart than the big-busted female character you'll find in gaming.
Think about that for a moment.

Providing in-game context as to why a character might act or dress that way is nothing more than a shallow attempt to skirt criticism.
He might as well say, "she's half-naked with large breasts because i think it'll appeal to much of the target demographic." That's the real reason- not whatever tragic backstory he happens to come up with.

The funny part is that the only actual thing "wrong" here is that there's an automatic assumption (and admission) that female characters will be hyper-sexualized, and not that there's sexualized content in a Japanese AAA title.

I don't mind sexualized characters. Just don't shove weird background stories relating to that in my face. I'd rather have them talk about the character and how fucked up she has been throughout her life, but explaining why she likes to show her breasts is MEH. Don't need explanations.
