Kojima: Overly sexualized women in DS will be given a “deep background story"

Even the Senran Kagura designer can defend himself better over stuff like this. Kojima should just embrace what he likes, no one´s buying his excuses :p

Well there is no better defence for having tits and butts than saying I like tits and butts.

Wait, my mistake, "Life" and "Home Town" hehehehe

The senran creator flat out says he just loves life and hometown and is always ready to give his ninja girls a new way to be sexy.

Ya'll just don't understand the deep back stories that big breasted barely clothed women have. Kojima will make you understand.

Urgh... somehow I feel this is worst than actual mindless fanservice.

At least in that case the authors are upfront with the oversexualization, while here we have a man who is trying to hide behind a veil of hypocrisy. He just wants to show tits and asses, but since he considers himself (and wants to be considered) a distinguished auteur he can't do that and comes up with this sad idea...

And since he already has Quiet set as a precedent I'm sure this is gonna be ugly...

Love Metal Gear, love Kojima's work, but this is bullshit.

He said the same to justify Quiet's outfit and boy did that not work out at all. I actually liked the character Quiet and her backstory and wasn't overly bothered by her outfit per se, it's just the way Kojima was talking about it before release - like there was an important artistic reason behind it and that we'd all feel sorry afterwards - that rubbed me the wrong way.

Ah, so this is where we pretend there's a male version of Quiet (apparently, worse than Quiet?).

And really, I don't care, he can make MGS Xtreme or whatever, but please don't act as if you have a sophisticated reason for putting virtual fap material in your games, lol.

Ah yes.

Stage 1: Deliberately go with a rather embarrassingly juvenile design for a woman and make sure the camera will be as voyeuristic as it can be. Okay, fine. If that's what you want.

Stage 2: Hastily concoct a daft, flimsy explanation after the fact rather than coming out and just honestly admitting that you cannot resist giant boobs on women.

Stage 3: ???

Stage 4: Profit and attention, I suppose.

Pretty much this.

Just own up to it Kojima. If theyre anything like Quiet's visual design(and actions) youve failed. Or maybe didnt really want to succeed in the first place.

You don't need a deep reason. Style alone can be justification. I find the Sorceress and Amazon designs from Dragon's Crown far more acceptable than Quiet, because while they are sexualized, they fit with the exaggerated style of the other characters and the art style in general. There's a sense of personality to them.

Meanwhile Quiet is walking around a base of trained military in ripped stockings and a bikini because... She breathes through her skin. Yay. Even though the character she's supposed to have similar powers to wore a bulky camo suit.

Hoping he will do a better job than he did in MGSV. I like Quiet as a character, but it was a bit tasteless.

MGS3, MGS4 and Peace Walker with The Boss, Meryl and Strangelove (or even Olga!) among others were a lot better in that regard (and which people apparently completely forget about and can just think "huehuehue quiet lol"), so I think he can do it.

I get the feeling that the only thing that would stop Kojima is if it impacts his relationship with movie celebrities. Like if Emma Stone refuses to be in a Kojima project because of it, or if J. J. Abrams asks "What the hell is up with that?".

It's very true, you've forgotten the PS1/PS2 MGS's. Showing fit men in skin tight clothing (or none at all in Raiden's case) with zoomed in/awkward camera angles is a staple of the series and used for comedic effect.
Quiet is not temporarily naked, and she's not comedic relief, I think? I mean, people online don't really seem to find her hilarious (and I mean her fans, not her detractors, lol).

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
This motherfucker...

He included a booty shoot in every boss fight in MGS4 and he's still trying to hide his pervert ass side.

No place to hide, Hideo.

Nothing wrong with this in principle I guess, but I am not sure that Kojima is capable of it and it also seems weird as to explain the sexualizaton of his female characters with some story reason. His track record, along with the incredibly flawed excuse for Quiet, do not instill confidence in me personally.

"Given his track record, I don't really have confidence that Kojima could pull it off" was pretty much my sentiment when he made that "ashamed with words and deeds" statement regarding Quiet.

Now my impression is simply that he's full of it.

Their breasts are the source of their power. Think of them as a sort of - power reserve. This is why they need to be so large.

as opposed to just not having overly sexualized women in the game? that is an option you know kojima...

he tried with quiet and it was BS. i don't see his pervy ass ways changing any time soon.

I haven't forgotten anything.

in the example you give it's for comedy value how is that sexualising someone? Skin tight suits actually make sense in the setting, they're for sneaking.

Women are actually sexualised in MGS games, posters of women in bikinis in lockers, watching Meryl get undressed, constant flirting with women in codecs, that stupid photo mode in MGS4 and some of the worst of it is in MGSV, Quiet is reduced to a sniper with a pair of tits.

The Boss should be what he's aiming for when writing women.

Why not just say he wants to have tits and ass in his game?

There's nothing wrong with that.

It's just embarrassing to hear him try and justify it as something it isn't.
