Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

I hope they reveal a character per week until release. That might explain why we haven't heard anything. It's still a ways out from release.

wow it really is 102 pages with no new info since capcom cup
Yeah, most popular crossovers tend to have lots of discussion even when there's nothing. Like Smash Bros, this series bridges a lot of fan bases and garners tons of hype. Comic fans, movie fans, tv series, Capcom arcade fans, newer Capcom fans, fans of specific series, fighting game community--it's no surprise that we're over a hundred pages in, based on hardly any information at all.

It's pretty crazy, you don't see this in too many other games.

Well i dont think they will release any trailer without atleast introducing 2 characters together.

So dont expect one off reveals

I just don't understand how Nina got in before Ryu himself...

And the "multiple dragon form" thing isn't even an issue because it still leaves BOF IV Ryu and Dragon Quarter Ryu.

More opportunity to make her unique, as well as being a female character certainly helps. Nina also tends to be more requested than Ryu from what I've seen.

With Ryu, you'd have yet another sword fighter, just that he also could turn into a dragon for a few moves (presumably just supers though).

With Nina, it doesn't even matter which form you use, but you get a character who can fly and use a lot of magic attacks. Even though BoF1 Nina uses a sword iirc, I think that wouldn't have been the focus of her moveset, especially since she would've been supposed to be an amalgam of the Ninas across the series.

Right? It's been 2 months and absolutely nothing outside of Cap and Morrigan. I'm hoping we hear something at Final Round or NorCal Regionals, otherwise they might as well do a blowout of the game at E3 or EVO 2017.

When does the Final Round and NorCal Regionals take place?

Well, if the game doesn't get delayed, E3 and EVO are key events to show it.

Honestly the fact they announced this game two months ago and have given us basically no info since right after the announcement is kind of pathetic.

I thought the idea was to gradually build hype, not build the hype up and just let it die after.

There is an eternity of time left until the game comes out. An early lull is not going to permanently turn people away from the game. It's much harder to sustain interest for a long period of time. If someone's already interested in the game now, they still will be much closer to release, and those who need information this far out to keep interested probably have a short enough attention span or are big enough impulse buyers that a blast of information close to release should be enough.

With this having a late 2017 release that means they have, at minimum, 7 months before release. Hype can be rebuilt in an instant. They can take off until the summer and have a reveal bonanza until release date and the hype will come back immediately.

After looking at trailer for the millionth time, I thought of something: we see Ryu raise the Power Stone in the air as he says "Let's finish this!" The next time they're shown, the entire background is different, implying the Power Stone was activated. When he has Carol in the combo, he activates it again. We see something similar with Carol where the Time Stone changes the background.

I just thought it was interesting that Ryu activated it twice, but this is a very early trailer. I'm bored.

I was so anxious for info that I scoured the MvC:I website source code for information last month, also pulled the background image hoping for a clue. Nothing haha.

And GotG Vol. 2 is in May, so there's the potential of revealing those characters then (although that's what I thought they'd do with RE characters when RE7 came out, and nothing happened).
I wouldn't be surprised we got some Guardians revealed in May.

It's just two months. Injustice 2 went like 4 months without any reveals.

Isn't Spider-Man this year too?

Thor 3, Spider-Man and GOTG2 this year. I really doubt that they would announce Thor in November since Thor should be one of first few characters being announced for MVCI. I meant Hulk, Thor, Dr. Strange and Rocket Raccoon are like no brainer at the point right now.

Really sounds like UMvC3 would have had the GOAT roster if it wasn't under so many time constraints.
It also seems that way because pretty much every character under the sun was "considered" at some point i.e. never made it past some grand list of characters they could choose from.

So, trying to think about something else until we get new info.
If the X-Men vs SF DLC ends up being true, what characters would you want or expect being added?

Depends on how many there will be.
Wolverine, Storm, Sentinel and Magneto are pretty much a given and likely will be the primary choices, and so is Deadpool simply for his popularity as a character.
Can't see them doing more than 5 X-Men characters though, especially if they're paired with SF characters.

Those characters have a good shot, but Sentinel is a bit of a stretch I would say. Capcom pushed hard for it's inclussion if IIRC.

Gambit, Psylocke, Cyclops or Rogue would be welcome additions.

There's no way Sentinel is coming back.

At this point I feel Sentinel is a legacy character who might have a better shot than you think. Kind of like Sheik in Smash.
Sure, the 4 you name also have a good shot (and I'd also add Jean to have a decent chance as well), but Sentinel definitely is on the shortlist for X-Men characters solely because of his history within the series.

REmake HD has been very successful and popular, so could easy get classic Jill, Wesker again...And throw in Barry who returned in Revelations 2 recently also.

Also screw a RE2make representation going Leon/ADA and not Leon/Claire.

REmake HD came out ages ago as it is, and will be even older by the time this game comes out. And Leon and Claire would have essentially the exact same moves, due to using almost all the same weapons. Ada at least has her spy gadgets to differentiate her. Clair would be cool to have instead of Leon imo, but he's too popular.

Yep, I know that Sentinel is a "legacy character" at this point. But relevance could lower the chances for it's inclussion IMO.

Some of the character featured in 1 or 2 could but absent from 3 get some love now.

If Marvel essentially dictates which characters are DLC, relevancy to comics and whatnot matter, yeah. And then X-23 is a lock, for instance.

However, if Marvel's stance is a bit more lax on DLC than it is on the base roster (which I think is a distinct possibility), then Capcom will get more leeway and rather include characters that are classic to the series. I remember reading somewhere that Sentinel was included in MvC3 just because of his legacy status.

It could go either way, relevance, popularity via polls or legacy status.

Just hoping that some of the characters who didn't show up in 3 end up being added now.

I'm not saying they are turning people permanently away from the game, I'm saying they are wasting time they could be promoting it. Obviously they're going to want to make the most noise right before it comes out, but giving information in the meantime keeps people talking spreads awareness and keeps it on people's minds.

Yeah they could do that, but what was the point of even announcing it to begin with? The whole idea of spreading it out is to raise awareness and hype over time. They could have announced the game and the full roster 3 weeks before the game came out, but pretty much nodoby does that for a big fighting gane, because it's not as effective

It's just two months. Injustice 2 went like 4 months without any reveals.

I'm not following Injustice 2 as closely, didn't realize that, that's a waste too.

Games are usually announced way before they are released but Marvel Infinite didn't even have the base mechanics all figured out when it was announced so I don't know what's going on in their mind but it's clear it's in early, early, early development and, at this point, I doubt it makes 2017. But that's beside the point, 5 months of constant updates and announcement will bring the hype as much as a once a month announcement. No one is saying 3 weeks but constant announcements over a few months will make people forget about that drought.

Case in point. Injustice 2 went through one of the longest no-new character droughts I've ever seen and hardly anyone is talking about it now as we're getting constant announcements and announcements for announcements and streams and a beta to accompany it. That drought ended a month ago and the populace hardly mind now.

Silhouettes are too easy to figure out with established characters. Might as well just reveal the characters at that point.

Regina could hide pretty well with her silhouette if they actually made a new render for her, and modernize her costume a bit

Watch Regina have a get up like Lady with a similar hair cut and shades, people think that silhouette was Lady and then Capcom bamboozles us.

Shuma-Gorath has been in every Vs. game, right?

Edit: NM, no Marvel 1

I think at this point it'll be pretty difficult for Capcom to bring back Shuma. It already took them a lot of effort to have him be DLC in MvC3 (iirc Marvel wouldn't allow him to be in the base roster), and now that Dr. Strange is in the limelight thanks to his movie, I would think the other characters related to him (Dormammu, Mordo, Clea, etc.) would be brought in long before Shuma.

Keep in mind that in the comics, Shuma is an insanely obscure character even within the Dr. Strange comics - his appearances can be counted on a hand - and when he was included in MSH, it was during a time in which Marvel didn't give much of a shit about which of their characters got used in games. Now they do.

Also note that Shuma-Gorath's portrayal in the Capcom games always was whimsical and cartoony. That's pretty much exactly the anti-thesis to what Shuma actually is in the books, where he is basically a Lovecraftian eldritch godlike being that wants to invade and destroy our universe, and one of those interdimensional threats that loom over our world that Strange is fending off on a daily basis. Especially now that Marvel is really conscious about how their characters are portrayed, I don't expect Shuma to come back based on that ground, as well.

And Ada is much, much more popular than Claire anyways. I love Claire just as much, though.

Hey maybe we haven't heard anything because we aren't just going to get one character, but a dump of character reveals!
