Dark Souls III |OT+2| Why Can't We Poise the Game?

Finally played through the first DLC.

I'm sure people will disagree, but I personally found
Sister Friede
to be the most difficult boss...in the entire series. Bloodborne included! The third phase of the fight completely wrecked me. Finally emerged victorious though! Overall, I really enjoyed this and am pretty excited for the next DLC now.

Super excited, my brother just got the game, going to co-op as much as freaking possible with him. He struggled with Bloodborne and was turned off by the setting, he is hoping the fantasy setting and co-op will be better.

The Nameless King,
huh? I've got a name for him,
King of Bullshit
. This is Orphan of Kos level frustration right now. First phase is easy enough but once you take down the
Dragon
, whew. I got him down to about 1/4 health exactly one time. Since then I'll be lucky to get him to about half.

I need to git gud.

I just rebought a used copy of this since I had a coupon for $25 off a used game at Gamestop.

My first time through was on XB1 and only got a little past the big tree boss near the start of the game. It was my first time picking a mage class in a Souls game, and was going to run straight magic...but something didn't click.

Someone said out of my online buddies that magic is gimped/worst in this version of Souls. Is that true?

I can just run sword and board if Magic isn't that good past the starting areas.

Also, do people recommend waiting until Pro Boost mode is officially out? I can wait if it will be a game changer.

I'd put it more down to the fact that in Demon's and DS1 (Can't speak for 2) magic was pretty broken and on the whole trivialised the game. Whereas in DS3 I feel that they managed to balance it better, its certainly still usable.

This is all from the point of view of someone who almost exclusively uses Melee so take of that what you will.

Finally starting to dip my toes into the Dark Souls trilogy after going through Demon's Souls and Bloodborne (close to the very end of the base game, still need to check out The Old Hunters). Had a digital 360 copy of the first Dark Souls handy to try it out (though I have DS1 and DS2+Scholar on Steam) and I'm liking what I've played so far.

It's gonna be a bit before I get to 3, but should I get it now or just wait for the GOTY edition?

Don't expect much from Pro boost - the game will still be capped at 30fps which it hit pretty well on the original PS4. The major performance issue for Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 was frame pacing which is not improved by the boost.

I prefer co-op because even though it makes it easier, it changes the game and makes it less stressful and more fun - for me. I can do it solo, but after 2 100% games, it's nice to relax a bit and have fun playing instead of worrying so much.

I get this. I started a new run. Trying to get back to where I was. I'm going with the classic ASS build since it seems to be the fastest method. If anybody wants to help, I'm gonna be at the Farron Ruins Bonfire in like 5 mins to take on the Watchers.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I've solo-killed all the bosses so I have nothing to prove, and now I just enjoy jolly co-op because it's fun to kill shit with other people.

Really liking my decision to make my starting twinblades Raw. I've been able to throw all my points into HP/stamina ever since while leaving all other stats at starting values, and I'm outdamaging my old character by a pretty good margin with Raw infusion + magic blade.

I could re-infuse them later to a dex build once I'm happy with my hp and endurance, or I could keep them raw, then pump int so that I can melee with magic weapon buffs, plus have some spell options on top of it. Hm...

I got the platinum last week and finished Ashes with my quality build (NG+++) guy; and have just restarted a new character to get ready for the next DLC as a pyromancer.

Man, as soon as you get the Great Chaos Fire Orb - enemies just melt away - I never realised that the pyro can get so good - its a bit of a slog to start with though.

Are faith/sorcery builds worth it as well?

Sorcs have it a bit hard but you can get powerful.

Pyro is the easiest IMO. You dont get the heavy hitting spells from Faith and Sorcery until endgame.

It really makes no sense that they put so many important items and spells so late in the game.

Story-wise, it makes sense that one of the last areas of the game has so much good stuff, but in terms of game progression for certain builds, it kind of blows.

I think it mainly indicates that a "normal" play through includes going into NG+.

Bah, I just made a new character after finishing my NG playthrough. :(

Really liking the new build, though. Great Magic Weapon + nearly naked + Flynn's ring + raw weapon is really kicking ass. I can kill most things in one stamina bar. The second form of Abyss Watchers went down in like three openings.

I think once I have enough health and stamina, I can go pump Dex until I can turn the weapon Sharp or Refined.

I really don't understand why yea put a :(

I haven't even gone into NG. I have a second character in same spot too!
I usually don't do a NG+ playthrough in Souls games because by the end of one playthrough, I feel like I've had my fun with my build, and would rather start again with a new build instead.

Is there anything of note in this game that I can only see in NG+?

Well to see all the endings without doing the save trick you need to go up to NG+3 (or 4).

Some rings have better version, up to +3.

But it is mainly quests and endings.

Or you could do different builds, even though you can respec five times per NG...

I did consider just respeccing, but I wanted to play a female character after playing through with a male character. I don't think you can change genders even with the stat/appearance respec options.
I don't like how Pyro is now tied to stats. AT ALL. It used to just be attunement slots.
Yeah, it's really weird.

Does this mean that pure pyro builds need to pump both faith and int now? At that point, what does pyro have that spells/miracles don't? Because that's double the stat investment.

Pyro hard cap is 40/40

FTH is 60

INT is 60.

Is not different that going quality on melee based characters.

dusted off my copy of ds3

I hadnt played in like at least 7-8 months... didnt even finish the story. I had stopped at the
Archives

Continued thru with my greatsword build until the final boss
also omg... I loved it. The piano hit me hard

Then I decided I wanted to replay the whole game but with a different build this time. I always played souls games with a STR build so this time I decided for a dex one. Rocked the uchigatana. then the washing pole. And then (DLC weapon)
friedes scythe
. Man , that weapon is awesome. 40dex/int build. Felt a lot different than the regular good old greatswords...

Talking about the DLC: I really liked it. Finished it 2 days ago and looked up all the lore about it that I could find.

Can't wait for the ringed city. Will replay bloodborne in the meantime...

Last night I couldn't play online (PS4) because the server was asking for a patch that hadn't been released yet. Took an hour or so but the game finally updated.

I like it, it makes it more useful as a standard class, instead or just being a support for every class. With the new MP system also means you can "spam" Vestiges instead of being restricted to the really low number of cast of Forbidden Sun in 2.

The only problem is cast speed tied to DEX, and having to waste a ring slot for it (this is a problem for all magic classes though).

I didn't set one. neogaf?

You still need help? I am waiting outside the boss room with neogaf as password.

It is now later and I am going to quit. I don't mind helping but I don't want to stand in one spot doing nothing for 20 minutes lol. Especially with no response.

have you done Yhorm or are you just wanting to kill Emma and get it over with? either way, i'd grind a little bit and level up some more. then again i've always had trouble with the dancer and always end up needing help.

Then again requiring 40/40 and a couple of rings for maximum damage in DS3 is also ridiculous.

This is true. Especially the rings part, you have practically no freedom on choosing rings, 2 of them are for damage and you'll need Sage ring in most builds too because they fucked spell casting speed.
