Is it Moooona or Munnna either way that MUNA album got a couple listens today. I Know A Place and If U Love Me Now are tops.

On an unrelated note, Katy's halftime show had the best overall production.

Agreed, and thank God it was because she sure as hell couldn't have carried that set with her talent.

I'm thrilled to say that my two faves claim the best halftime performances in pop herstory. Katy's was quite good, thanks in large part to those amazing set pieces and solid pre-recorded vocals. <3

LiQuid!

Sorry to intrude on your thread popgaf but I've had a question brewing in me for a while and I don't know where else to turn.

I've been wondering if there's a name or a style associated with this pop trend over the last handful of years where the song builds to a chorus but then "drops" to wubby and/or blippy EDM garbage? I notice this in nearly every Chainsmokers song I've ever heard and the earliest examples I can think of it happening is mega popular one hit wonders like Party Rock and Gundam Style.

I've gotten into pop music over the last few years, thanks to these threads in fact. Well, the OPs anyways, not the threads themselves (you should all be ashamed of yourselves tbqh). but whatever this trend is called, it absolutely destroys my ability to enjoy otherwise catchy songs.

Not sure if there's an official name for that, but it's usually labeled as "EDM-style pop" since the build-up and the lack of chorus is obviously directly taken from that genre.

And I agree, it was cute for a while, but it's getting tiring. Also, you should stick around btw.

p.s. for those interested, here's my updated gif album. Of course, with more RE gifs.

It annoys me it is being overused, but when used properly it can be fire.

I've gotten used to it, because I listen to a lot of EDM and that has been the trend for years now, but I'm not sure if there is a name for it. Not the style, anyway, as it is not genre dependent. You could, instead of doing a chorus, do a "drop" in a polka song if you were so inclined, it is not dependent on the genre, and not a new genre on itself, I would suppose, so I'm really not sure it has a name. I would call Chainsmokers EDM, though, and nowadays, most pop songs are heavily influenced by EDM.

Just listen to Mariah Carey and avoid all this crap.

It's called "following trends" =V

It's more or less a repeat of what happened when Mariah did that rihmix Fantasy featuring a rapper and then everyone and their grandmother followed.
