How about you announce game and finish that first. Goddamn idiots

This is common practice in development. Pre-production and planning of content patches/expansions is started years in advance and is a gradual ramp-up as time progresses.

It's worth noting Activision's fiscal call is today.

The details also fit with what we know, so someone was either very careful, or accurate.

The uh, engine part is presumably a lie though, but the kind of lie the developers would plausibly make a la Creation Engine and such things.

That said, there are like eight people on GAF who would know if this is real, so we should have confirmation either way soon.

bungie pls

One of the most misunderstood quotes. Jason is talking about the fact that yes, in engine, their skyboxes are 90% actual physical (er.. in the digital sense) terrain. You can even still launch items from the playspace and land them on the distant mountains, the buildings out over the ocean on Venus, etc.

It's been this way in their games before Destiny.. If you do a proper glitch, you can go climb around on Sierra 117 if you really want to. It's what happens when you have real, great skyboxes instead of cube jpgs. It's why their sense of scale has always been pretty good.

The only difference is those areas aren't populated with encounters. There's nothing in the engine preventing them from being populated, at all, and they've become more strict about sealing the player in to prevent accidental softlocks.

It will be interesting to see how much of this is truth. I will still play this on console more than likely on Scorpio and maybe PS4 Pro. I currently play on both PS4 and Xbox One. I have fully capable PC's but to be honest I have zero faith in a long term and mostly hack free PC player base. My opinion of course.

Hopefully we get real info soon and I really hope that November date is wrong I'm ready to move on and would prefer September like before.

The story feels like the only natural direction. Cabal attack city and tower, you fight to take it back.

I'm sure the campaign could be finished without the Raid, similar to Oryx. King's Fall was only to ensure Oryx was killed in his throne room thus forever.

Disappointing if Cabal are the big bad. You'd think them to reveal a new enemy.
Also a part of me wishes this thing had remained a console thing - would've made it an easier choice to keep going with the PS4 version. I still love the feedback you get in that game with the rumble - something that'll be missed with a M&KB.

I do wonder how the game changes for consoles if stats like Aim-Assist are purged (perks like Hidden Hand, different sights for weapons etc.) from weapons. Also if the NPCs remain as sizeable and slow as in D1, racking up headshots is going to be ridiculously easy on the PC. I'd be really worried about the reception on consoles as Bungie, though I'm sure they've put a great amount of thought into whatever they've got going on.

Sounds good to me. Dropped the first one a year ago. Look forward to see what they come up with on this reset. Thinking PC too since most of my friends have made the leap to PC.

I hope they have cross-platform progression this time around, that's a big one.
Not necessarily cross-platform play, but I want progression to be saved agnostic of platform so that I can play on Xbox and then when desired play on PS4 or PC and pick up where I left off and vice versa. We already have had tie-ins to Bungie.net infrastructure like this among PS3/4 and 360/One.

We saw how that went out with Battleborn , Evolve etc..

Just make your goddamn launch great first , first destiny launched barebones and got criticized hell out for that. Instead filling sequel , how about we separate team and making DLC for it pretty cool idea .

Hopefully the hunter, warlock and titan is fully leveled though. Don't want to lvl each subclass again unless they are all new ones.

Wonder how this would work with achievements / trophies.

I haven't encountered a developer in my professional experience that doesn't plan out patches, updates and content for any project they're working on (that isn't in an outsource capacity) for at least an 12-18 months window post-launch and then on a rolling basis.

There are numerous reasons for this approach, budgetary to name just one.

Not a huge stretch to take game achievements and expand them into new grimoire rewards etc. (if such a system is kept) that when awarded to your Bungie.net profile they propagate to Sony and MS's platforms.
They are already technically capable of doing this, all Destiny chardata on Bungie's servers is platform agnostic.

I even have my Playstation preorder gear and emblem on my Xbox 360.. because their server wasn't really strict about enforcing it. I have loot boxes on 360 I earned on PS4. I have a lootbox on PS4 I earned on my 360.

It's all corporate politics keeping them from being 100% platform agnostic.

Bingo.

Interested but the whole take back what's "yours" for an entire campaign theme is stale as fuck.

The dark middle chapter.

Classic.

Sure, but is that allowed though?

Can you unlock a Trophy for something you have done on a different platform?

Where else does it go? Cabal leaders have been wiped out of our system, Empire might want revenge and a surprise attack on the Tower would do that.

That would be a tough fight, especially with Solar burn ;)

Forge of Hope?

Doesn't sound that bad. Glad I stopped playing Destiny though. 3 years of it is more than enough.

As mentioned by FyreWulff this is technically already being done. Destiny's entitlements are all Bungie hosted.

Call of Duty comes out in November too so I dunno if Activision would release this in November. I hope this leak is true though. Story sounds like weaksauce and not fit for an actual sequel but we'll see.

I'm kind of bummed out by no character transfer-but I get it. I wish there was SOMETHING for veterans to carry over as a memory of the time we sunk into it. Maybe one exotic weapon.

Hmm I dont know, just seems to go over points we've heard before. Like even back to Leaked Roadmap of Destiny 1 with Forge of Gods

Probably get some emblem and a shader for your trouble through Bungie.net.

A rare Destiny Veteran grimoire card with a gold border.

The big issue I have with no character transfer is I want at least grimore score or something carried over to destiny 2 to show that you are a long term player of the series.

I have no issue with items not carrying over but no character is dissapointing.

Don't suppose there are any insiders who can say anything on whether or not we will be hearing anything substantial about it today?

Yeah, I feel like everything we've seen so far (besides maybe Rise of Iron) is still part of that roadmap. Makes you wonder if they're still re-purposing content (whether its just concept art, ideas, or things further along in development) originally designed to be included in the original game

I hope this time for much larger environments, doesn't have to be "open world" but I do kinda want large masses of terrain to cover, where you spot distant giant buildings and decide to go there on those Sparrow-thingies.

I remember seeing some art of Venus from the game during the early days after the announcement and I was really hoping there would be these giant steppes of land to travel over with mystical extreme future buildings and ruins spread all over cause it looked awesome.

I dont believe that release date. if it comes put this year I will be very surprised

Why? The most likely scenario is that Destiny 2 releases this year.

It was already originally planned for fall 2016. It's doubtful that Activision is okay with the game missing two holiday seasons in a row, as it's going to be one of the biggest launches this gen.

If Destiny 2 is pushed into 2018, I think that would mean there are some large development issues. They'll get this game out for Chrsitmas if their lives depend on it.

IIRC, the Kotaku article about Destiny's development said that some of the content that Bungie planned for Destiny 1 are re-purposed for Destiny 2.
