Character transfer

Due to the new engine Bungie had to make the hard decision of previous Characters being left behind. The upside to this is the new release will have a more customization character creation including facial hair and class themed face paint and tattoos.

But can I change the way my guardian looks after I customize him/her? That's what people cared about when it came to making their own characters.

While I am interested in this, I wonder if it is wise to wait for the inevitable collection of the base disc and all DLC. I bought Destiny at launch along with all DLC, but this go around I may take a wait and see approach.

I thought the whole problem with the original engine was that it took like 5-10 hours to open the maps to modify them. So any time they had to make a change it was like an overnight wait to see how your change actually looked in the game. That's why content additions were so slow because they were difficult to add.

I figured a new engine was a lock because the old one was such a mess.

Still not sure I believe this rumor, but I can't imagine them sticking with the old engine or a modification of it.

I don't have lots of hope for long term development games anymore. I mean look at FF XV, Destiny at launch, and some other long term projects that didn't live up to the hype. I'm not going to get hyped for this because the main thing in destiny that was really lacking was repetitive crap and the story was on cards.... Unless they radically change the story into something amazing and make better content like VoG I think I'm going to wait awhile to get hyped.

Edit: Maybe doing away with destiny 1 characters is a good idea. Just renew the story completely.

A new engine sounds nice, but if it's the same "grind for 100 hours to get the one shot headshot gun" type of game count me out. Always despised how they CoDified Halo.

I understand that it has MMO elements, but the unlocks you get should be purely cosmetic. Grinding for a better gun just kills the idea of a skill based FPS.

No character transfer is a good sign of this happening. Fingers crossed.

I assume the scaled back exclusivity duration is due to the timid sales of the COD partnership. If not and the game still has a year long exclusivity duration, I can't see Xbox users being hyped for this game.

I can't let that subtitle slide. Forge of Hope sounds like a Game of War ripoff. Ass. Call it Destiny II, save the corny titles for expacs.

If my character is being left behind them I'm jumping from PS Pro to Scorpio if there's a visible difference. I'd love it if they would add a Horde or "on-going war" mode where you can have a large number of characters trying to hold a position.

Starting fresh doesn't bother me, I just wish there was a bigger focus on story, an in game Grimoire where unlocking a bunch of cards could lead to a video piece about the lore just something with better direction.

Be interesting to see Bungie release a PC game after all they have said about focusing on console releases. Seeing as destiny 1 was 360 / ps3 + Xb1 / Ps4 maybe now they don't have to deal with old gen they can spare some resources.

I wonder if the content exclusivity will be like CoD (PS4, then Xbox/PC later) or more like the deal MS has with Division where the PC is not subject to the exclusivity and gets it day 1.

I'm as hopeful as anyone else but...I'm afraid we're all getting super hyped for this announcement and all we're actually going to get is "on track for a 2017 release".

MS is basically PC, so I´d assume it does not work the other way around.

Don´t think anyone is expecting more.

I am really suprised by how many people in this thread give a shit about something as trivial as the subtitle.

I hope it's legit just so we have another credible insider.

I'll have to see if the MP will still consist of nothing more than supers, heavy weapons, and shotguns again.

The only thing that's suspicious about this is that they'd subtitle the base game. They didn't do that for Destiny 1 - subtitles are for expansions.

Still strange how Destiny 1 skipped PC. Would have been massively popular.

They were already splitting resources between 360/PS3 and XB1/PS4. PC on top of all that might have spread them too thin.

Plus I'd say it still qualifies as "massively popular" even without the PC release.

I'm waiting to see if the PVP is completely separated from PVE.

Don't want to see PVE stuff locked behind PVP activities and vice versa. And separate balance also.

Agreed. If they separate the PVE and PVP balance/weapons it will go a long way towards fixing a lot of my problems with the current game.

The COD numbers didn't look so good, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of the reason why Acty didn't put it on PC. Plus as Glam said it was too for one developer that only recently worked on one platform.

I'm fine with no direct character transfer but what you did in destiny 1 needs to matter in some direct way. Maybe weapons carry over, stuff that is being recreated in the new engine.

Releases in Q4 2017 and the FIRST expansion will be in Q3 2018? Wtf?

Why are people surprised about this? I've put hundreds of hours into Destiny but I don't want to keep my old character throughout the whole thing. I want a fresh start.
I believe they said that you would carry your character over in their 10 year plan, although like a lot of what they said about the game, a lot has changed.

NMS and Destiny are quite far removed, but it's still the closest disappointment i can think of. The design of the game was just weak to me. Bullet sponges everywhere, ridiculous RNG, lazy campaign, all of the narrative is on a website datalog, ect ect. But it's coming from a company that i would never expect to have such pitfalls, judging from their previous FPS games until that point.

Con is strong word, but i guess i was just expecting something a bit more from Bungie.

I think where I really got pissed off at Destiny and just knew i'd never play again is when they started nerfing PvE weapons for the sake of them being broken in PVP. Like, why...how is this required? Final Fantasy XIV is a PvE centric game and even they manage to give PVP-specific abilities and skill rebalances during PvP modes, and that's a game with like 12 unique classes with dozens of skills. But Bungie earned their stripes off competitive PvP experiences, so i don't see how this distinction could have been overlooked.

The experience just felt like Bungie had never even looked at a modern MMO before. Hopefully Destiny II will remedy some of this though. The premise of the game was interesting and the gunplay was spot-on.

How is this an issue ?
Destiny is an RPG and as such your damage will obviously depend on your level and guns and you obviously will have enemies that take more bullets than others. Just because it's a shooter doesn't mean it can't have the things prevalent in every other RPG.

And just how many PvE weapons can you recall that were rebalanced because of PvP?

Agreed. If they separate the PVE and PVP balance/weapons it will go a long way towards fixing a lot of my problems with the current game.

But isn't it already as separate as it can be while using the same weapon/perks?
Everytime a patch is out you can easily see that they can balance a weapon for PvE and PvP separately because damage against guardians is different from damage against AI. It's specifically mentioned in the patch notes whether the nerf/buff was against Guardians or AI. Changes to how a weapon works for weapons like TLW are inconsequential since no one used it outside of PvP.

It's a marketing tactic to ensure to consumers that it's part of the same universe.

Also I totally called that characters wouldn't transfer. Let me try and dig up the post.

Maybe there is going to be a ton more content in the initial release. Also this still means content patches in between are there.

No, they should jettison everything and not hamstring themselves trying to bring anything over. It's not like anyone's character is unique or interesting in D1 anyway. Everyone has the same weapons and items for the most part if you've put in the time. A lot of the weapon perks probably won't even repeat in 2 so they couldn't roll over most of the parts people might care about anyway.

I don't really care about the platform exclusivity stuff, so I would most likely get Destiny on the PC.

The only thing about Destiny that makes me hesitate to invest in its future sequel is that I didn't dedicate nearly enough time to the game to have a dedicated group of friends to run everything with. This became frustrating when trying to do Nighfalls and other grouped (non-raid) activities. I also hated being looked over for nightfall or raid groups because my exotic wasn't fully maxed out. I don't have the time to run three separate characters and replay the same missions 3 times over to max out a weapon in a day or two. I tried sacrificing my time for that at one point; it was fun, but I had to just stop. Hopefully Destiny 2 will be friendlier to people who don't run 2 to 3 characters and spend the majority of their free time playing it.

Edit: I also agree with the balancing PvE weapons around PvP. That was not, and will never be, a good idea.
