So if soul matching is no good, what's the best way to get elemental weapons or weapons with status effects later in the game? I have a poison kusarigama that I was planning to level up with me. I'm only in the first region but I want to plan ahead and I'm going to be focusing a lot on ninjitsu for status effects and bombs.

Soul Matching has it's purpose. Things get overly expensive though if you're taking a low level purple weapon and soul matching it to a high level blue weapon (or yellow or white).

But taking a, let's say level 20 purple weapon and soul matching it to a level 28 weapon is valuable and relatively affordable. Even moreso if that weapon is also of similar rarity. Blue to blue, purple to purple etc.

Mind you, every other mission I simply sell my gear to the blacksmith, not just breakdown for parts. In fact, I rarely forge weapons to begin with. So yeah, I use soul matching all the time and because I'm selling gear gold is rarely an issue. It lets your favorite weapon be viable for at least a few main missions, and by then you'll likely get better gear to replace it with.

Also, for people struggle with managing loot, - clear loot out after each mission. Don't do several missions then do it, as a lot will accumulate. Secondly, press R3 to organize your gear by rarity. If it's not blue or purple, then it's probably not a bother to look at it, especially if you're past the third or so main mission.

Update: I'm still using Aya-komori and honestly, Extraction to get LW in boss fights is still great. It's like gaining Ninpo in a NG2 Boss fight expect it guarantees at least SOME damage. The nerf was perfect, now that it only works outside of LW. I believe this was the intended use for that Talisman. You can still keep infinite LW naturally by killing enemies to refill.

Here's my Raikiri:

big damage boosts (not all)
- (doesn't show in stats) Familiarity Damage Bonus A (13%)
+ Agility Damage Bonus A (13%, aya-komori)
+ Damage From Behind +41.2% (various)
+ Enemy Defeated Damage Bonus A+ (ranged passive)
+ Close Combat Damage Bonus +6.1%
+ Increase Attack & Defense (Sword) +17 (aya-komori)
+ Yokai/Human Combat Damage Bonuses +5 (avg.)

Yeah i'm feeling the sense of repetitiveness, The area's have no sense of exploration at all, Enemies are just the same which don't help, Also i'm doing the mission, Then helping my friend do it, And doing it the tori gate way with the same friend as we like the co-op from the demo( which annoyed the hell out of me why they changed it )

Least in the beta's we would only have had to do the mission once instead of 3 times for me.

All in all i feel the lack of awe and wonder in the area's are making me just run and find the boss.

i found that they really stepped it up in the last half or so of the game personally. They are slightly limited by the setting, the levels themselves are designed well, and there are some truly great levels in this game.

Which is why i look forward to Yakuza as well.

I'm hopefully going to climb Mt. Ibuki when I go in the Summer

So that third mission in region 3 was weird. Need to do it again so that I can explore it more properly. Boss wasn't so bad. Went down in 10 tries but then again knowing me that is 10 more than what everyone else here did lol.

Also my fight against my nemesis Yuki-Onna is here.

Ii is going to be probably my new nemesis now though.

idk why this took you so long, the only thing that would cause deaths is the fact you dont having spacing from the boss.
You set up for a good ki punish and take excellent advantage of it, when the moment comes.

This is good stuff imo, probably a useful video for people struggling with boss HP, yet cant relate to the videos of people who just demolish bosses.

Hey guys, I'm curious to hear thoughts on this game from people who aren't "Soulsborne" fans, or anyone that specifically dislikes those games.

Without digging through this whole thread, all I've heard so far on Nioh are comments from people who are either huge fans of those games, or at least enjoy them. I'd love to see what people have to say who love Nioh but don't like Souls/BB.

To elaborate a bit, once I found out about this game's loot system and skill/talent tree stuff, I became quite intrigued. I want to hear from people who appreciate the game more from that point of view, the loot/skill/RPG area, rather than the action/combat end.

Any links to articles or videos would be appreciated, especially anything with deep dives into those systems. Thanks!

I'm loving Nioh thus far. And I thought Dark Souls 3 was an absolute bore-fest. I haven't even touched Dark Souls 3 DLC yet because the moment to moment gameplay in DS3 has just become so common place and samey to me.

Nioh can also get repetitive as well, especially as you get better and understand the enemy attack patterns more. But you can break from that much more easier in Nioh, switching a weapon type or even utilizing a different stance can completely change the way you play.

I used the Kasurigama weapon class most of play thus far. And only recently switched to a Spear build, and it's likely playing a new game. It combines elements more from character action games than Dark Souls does.

it really sucked tho because mt fuji was technically closed because of the weather so we missed out on that part of the trip.

My highlight was seeing Himeji castle. Just beautiful.

I took a gondola to somewhere close and we climbed a smaller mountain to get a cool view. I remember that we ate in some place close and it had a picture of the Chef and Namie Amuro.

Context: this was back when I was a teen and was a super Japanophile.

Super stuck at the first boss in the game proper. This boss is 10x harder than any starter boss in any soulsborne game. If you dont do it pitch perfect it is fucked ... and im starting to reaaaally get frustrated much more so than in soulsborne series. I do the strategy and his attacks fucking rng so Yeah. Fuck this boss. Dunno if i wanna Carry on with the game.. even tho the game was fun up to this part.

I never thought I'd do this but I used my Edge card(full value) trade in on Nioh today.

Its not that the game is bad by any means but I finished 3 regions and it became utterly repetitive.

I feel like I got the point of the game and I lost the drive to continue on.

I despise the loot system and the game sort of became "too gamey" for me. The sense of immersion and mystery are completely lost to me at this point.

I think the game highlighted to me why FromSoftware are such masters.

Bloodborne is a far greater game.It kept pulling me in and every element worked together to reveal a greater mystery,a greater whole at the end.

I'll definitely continue Nioh sometime down the line after a discount but the games vision is a bit too narrow for my taste.

It sounds like a lot of bullshit but really this game simply didnt instill a sense of awe and discovery for many reasons I cant quite put into words. It got boring!

I don't think your reasoning is "bullshit", some games just don't click. I love this game, but thought BB wasn't anything spectacular.

As the game progresses the skills available to you make things alot easier. What specifically is giving you issues?

Taking his damage and dealing damage. He allways manage to get in a few hits on me No matter How much i try blocking.

No apperant weak spot except hitting his horns wich stuns him for 1 second 1 time. Just flailing away barely doing dmg, am lvl 12.

Check that moment at around 0:15. That is one of the biggest reasons it took me so many tries. Usually I wasn't pushed that far away so the stomp would just hit me and kill me. Also I got only the basic 3 projectile attack on this run. Usually the one that shoots multiple times the set of free would just kill me too.

I was constantly dying to one mistake. It was never about using all Elixirs. It was that I didn't even manage to use them lol.

Ah ok blocking him will is a bad play for him, he'll smash you. Dodge out of range. Get 1-2 hits in dodge away. Dodge preemptively NOT reactionary. Only get close to bait the attack, Dodge to make him whiff, punish. When he drops the balls he's easier. You can get in more damage but NEVER get greedy. When he runs to pick up a ball to chuck at you just run around him (holding X) it'll miss everyttime.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Can I play for like half a hour and then exit out and start at the same place when I pick the game up next? Don't have that much time due to studies but due to the hype and excitement I had for this game I ended up buying it from PSN.

You mean can you advance to a shrine, quit out and then come back at the same shrine? No you have to start at the beginning if you quit out of the level

If only i were good enough to do this. Too sucky at the controls.

If there's a common weak spot for literally everything in the game, it's ki. Once ki is gone and their bar is red every hit will stagger them, you get 10~15s of free damage.

Every weapon has a "high ki damage" move, for swords and kusarigana for example it's Kick. Instead of going all out focus on depleting ki first and see if that makes it easier.

I was having the same issue but finally beat him last night. I went with a tactic of running more then actually dodging. The RNG you speak of in his attacks were a pain, but you can start to notice which he will do when. I would basically wait till a slam, rush in with a hit or two, run away, wait to see what his attack would be, then go in for some hits. Rinse and repeat till chains break, then kinda the same thing. Gotta make sure to move quick, and when he grabs the ball to throw make sure you're moving cause that thing will mess you up.

Not sure if any of that helps. I kept trying to dodge around and finally the run tactic dawned on me and it worked. It was more patience than anything really. Was super happy when I did beat him, haven't played a ton of soulsborne game so was pretty happy.

I have beaten DS2,3 and BB and this gives me more frustration than any boss in those games. By a country mile.
