Nintendo needs to let Pikmin go.

Yes, if there's anything Nintendo needs to do, it's killing even more of their franchises.

They should only make Zelda, Pokemon and Mario games from now on.

So they should pump out shit that makes no money and gets massive backlash like Federation Force and Star Fox Zero?

You can make new IPs without fucking up the old ones.
Lol that was their attempt at those franchises! You don't even know what you want.

I'll defend the OP. I don't care for the series and if it's detracting from Metroid or other more successful series then I say take an axe to it.

I'm so proud of the way GAF reacted to this thread lol. Pikmin is an outstanding franchise that should stay for as long as possible. Pikmin 3 was a masterpiece.

Take it back OP, take it back. This is the series my son started with on Wii U. I Co-Oped with him on Nintendo Land Pikmin game. As well as Wii version of Pikmin 2 and Wii U Pikmin 3. He even has the cute stuffed animal. We also have the cartoons. I still want to see Pikmin 4 on Switch just to see the Joy on my 8 year old's face.

I want to see what Nintendo can come up with on Pikmin 4. There is no reason to let this series go like they did with so many others.

That's not how game development works though. Metroid especially is a much higher budget project than Pikmin (unless you want a spin-off Metroid like Federation Force). And historically they've sold around the same amount...which means Pikmin is more profitable.

You know this how exactly?

They're both support-tier franchises, OP.

~1-2m sales per entry, Metroid Prime notwithstanding.

Pikmin 3 launched on a console with a tenth of the install base of Metroid Prime 3's and sold about 3/4ths as many copies.

I don't have hard budgetary numbers, but Metroid Prime 1 and 2 were clearly higher budgeted titles than Pikmin 1 and 2. And that's clear and obvious just by looking at the titles.

Note: I'm talking about Metroid Prime specifically since I am assuming that is what most people "want" from new Metroid. I am sure something like Super Metroid/Fusion/2D would be a lower budget project that is potentially cheaper to make than Pikmin

Yeah I do. I don't want a game with bad gyro controles and a game where I can play as the main character of the franchise.

Well, gotta support the stuff they give you. It's that or they'll take weak sales as a reason not to make any more. All your whining won't change a thing.

Pikmin is a fucking fantastic series. I have no idea why you're so concerned with Nintendo's financial interests, OP. If they want to keep making good games in a good series, that's fine by me.

Pikmin only has 3 games after 17 years. They're not exactly milking it.

The team who works on Pikmin wouldn't likely be working on Metroid either. Plus Pikmin is good and there's literally no other RTS game like it.

There's no reason why a series like Metroid, a more beloved and commercially successful franchise, is in coma while this flop of a series continues to hog up R&D resources and space.

Metroid is not a commercially successful franchise, Prime 2 and 3 sold less than Prime 1, the new play control didn't sell as well and Other M bombed in sales. Plus the series is just not that popular in Japan.

Also the idea that Pikmin is hogging up resource for Metroid is silly and untrue when they recently released a game on the 3DS with hints that there is a new Prime game in the work.

I understand OP's issue with Pikmin being given special treatment, but Pikmin isn't the problem, the problem is Metroid, F-Zero, and Star Fox being neglected.

Metroid recently had a game on the 3DS with hints that it's getting a new game in the series and Star Fox had a remaster on the 3DS and two Wii U titles.

As for F-Zero, they haven't thought up a new gameplay mechanic that will work for the series.

Well, there are Pikmin clones like Overlord and Little King's Story, so that's not entirely true.

Nah Pikmin is still gonna keep going.

If there is ser another Metroid game made....it's probably gonna be developed by a third-party studio while Nintendo oversees it.

That's not how that works.

Sorry I called a spade a spade by pointing out how out of touch Nintendo was during the lifecycle of the Wii U and how out of touch they are right now.

Pikmin 3 main game was OK, but Mission Mode is my all time favourite local co-op gaming experience. Such beautifully designed stages, needing well planned and executed cooperation between the two players to Platinum a level. My (five year old at the time) son and I got at least Gold on every stage, and each time we got a Platinum it felt like such an achievement.

Pikmin Adventure was the highlight of Nintendo Land. Fun in single player and is fantastic in local co-op.

So no, OP. Nintendo need to make more Pikmin. I can't wait for the inevitable Switch entry.

Are you mad?
Are you saying it's allright that Nintendo "let go" of Metroid, Starfox and F-Zero?
even though they did not really...
Pikmin is one of the most unique franchises out there! It would be very sad if it was dropped.

F-Zero almost happened. They went to the Burnout devs for a collaboration but they declined.

Yup. They need to start actually listening to what the fans want instead of pumping out garbage that they think we want.

What does this "listen to what the fans want" garbage even mean when franchises like Metroid, Star Fox, and F-Zero struggle to break 1 million worldwide regardless of the budget's size, the game's critical reception, and the success of the console they're on??
