Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

They gotta show SuckerPunch's new game at E3 this year. At that point it will have been 3 years since the release of their last game and we haven't even seen or heard about their new one. I hope it's not a huge open world game. They're not quite big enough to fill open worlds with meaningful content so something more linear but focused would be awesome.

Just hope we don't have another Santa Monicaesque situation on our hands with a cancelled game and several years more to wait. Did Shinobi or somebody hint anything new at all about SuckerPunch's next game?

Concerning Sony and FPS, the only one they're working on is Farpoint, right? It really is funny how they shifted from FPS overload last gen to TPS flood on PS4, can't complain though, as the quality is there and I'm glad they don't make dozen FPSs anymore. Wouldn't mind if Insomniac made a new Resistance or something similar (Disruptor 2!!) for PSVR though ;)

Shinobi said they weren't working on Infamous in a podcast a bit before last E3.

Yeah it been a while, my guess is that Sony have switched to announcing games closer to their target launch dates.

I am pretty sure the devs decide when they want to announce their game. That's why TLOU2 was announced so early. ND were excited and wanted to tell everyone.

Horizon has actually made me MORE excited to Sucker Punch's next game. One of Sony's first party studios having this kind of success with a big new IP, of a new genre no less, fills me with confidence that their studios are allowed to pump all of the time, care and passion that they need into their projects to fully achieve their visions. Guerrilla clearly had Sony's complete support and I expect Sucker Punch to be no different.

Same. Between it, TLOU2, and Death Stranding 2019 is gonna be a hell of a year

I suppose it's possible that DS slips to 2020

And let's not forget Last of Us was a new IP from Naughty Dog that came out late in the PS3 generation.

Let's hope the same success for Dreams as well!

Nobody ever mentions dreams here have a cookie. Dreams will be amazing it'll be so amazing that I'll make a level in dreams explaining how amazing it is

not really, we just saw The Last Of Us Part II announced a few months ago, and of course Death Stranding

they wont announce dates left and right and not meet that like they used to anymore according to Shu though

I admittedly didn't get far don't hurt me. Last thing I remember doing was getting that tool that lets you like dispell a wall or something like that
You make me sick

On the topic of the thread I'm thrilled for Guerrilla. Must feel great to see such fantastic reviews after 6 years of hard work on something way outside their comfort zone

Lol Xp

Balls in Sony bends,QD,mm and Sp's court now
Horizon has raised bar. Looking forward to seeing more of all those at E3, I think it's especially important for MM to have a great showing. You could say the same for Bend, but being an open world zombie game I think they'll be fine sales wise provided it's good

Bends a lock sales wise hope the quality matches up. Everything looked alright so far

This seems like something one of those ridiculous people who claim TLOU wasn't a risk would say. There's no guarantee of success, especially for a new IP.

I think Bend really needs Days Gone to be both a critical and commercial success. Otherwise, I can't see Sony keeping them around for much longer.

This x1000. Especially after another first party studio hit it out of the park with their new IP (Horizon), and that Bend's gonna have to try hard to not be in TLOU's shadow, they've got a lot of pressure on them and it's gonna be tough for them to stand out.
I pretty much just stole this point from KF, lol.

The comforting thing for Bend should be that Sony is very willing to give their studios all the time they need to make something great, Horizon is proof of that. They just need to make sure they deliver because like others have said, it may be their one shot.

I mean from the one time it's been shown, the "post apocalyptic" thing seems to be the only thing that you can say about TLoU and DG. The zombies alone are on a different scale than what TLoU did. I think it'll do just fine

From Shadowfall (73 metacritic) to Horizon (88 metacritic) is pretty damn impressive. I think its fair to say at this point the PS4 is indisputably a must own system regardless of what platforms you already own.

I worry for Bend. I'd love to be wrong but I can't see it matching Horizon/GoW/TLoU on any level. And it needs to be released well away from big titles in order to flourish. People (wrongly) talk about how Zelda will impact Horizon's sales, but just imagine if Days Gone had this kind of scenario.

It's open world with a day night cycle and dynamic weather
-A bike you have to basically take care of
-The freakers act entirely different from clickers
- environment plays a big part in the gameplay flow as well.

I don't see it. It's a story based tp game that's all

I'm not sure where to ask, so I'll just post them here.

Have we heard of any DLC plans for Horizon?

Any news on Everybody's Golf?

It has been a must own since Bloodborne released.

Killzone 2 = 91 Metacritic
Killzone 3 = 84 Metacritic
Killzone - Shadow Fall = 73 Metacritic (a bit of a rush job here, because it had to be ready for the PS4 launch).

It's not like Guerrilla Games doesn't know how to make great games. They made great games before.

That's actually my biggest concern though. I really enjoyed Syphon Filter and Uncharted GA but it wasn't for the writing or performances and unlike Guerrilla, I haven't heard of any hirings that would help them improve on those weaknesses.

I'm sure it'll be a fun game regardless, Bend have never had any trouble making those, I'm just not confident about the story right now. But hopefully John Garvin has been held back by Syphon Filter and their handheld Resistance/Uncharted spinoffs and blows us away.

Yea this is what irks me when people go "bu but track record! " Even worse when they base it off as shadowfall as track record. Also killzone liberation kinda counts since mathijs was the game designer and director for it

The people who have been saying that Guerilla Games has a bad track record probably don't think the Killzone games are great.

I thought KZ2 was awesome, one of the best shooters of last gen. I thought 3 was ok, and i didnt enjoy Shadowfall outside of the pretty graphics and Echo.

What they "think" doesn't matter. I don't like Pikmin games. Doesn't mean they are bad games. I know they are good (well 1 and 3 are good). I simply don't like them.

A game is not good or bad on the basis of its Metacritic score. Artistic merit is subjective.

And so it absolutely matters what they think. The idea that it's invalid for people who hated Killzone to have measured expectations for Horizon is stupid.

Obviously only a short cinematic trailer with dialogue that likely won't even be in the final product, but the writing seemed solid in the reveal trailer

Could you imagine working on Shadow Fall knowing damn well that the newest and coolest Sony IP was being prototyped in the same building?

I'd be hella distracted lol.

Speaking of Shadowfall, my latest twitter stalking of GG devs uncovered something interesting.

Steven der Heide, game director of KZSF used to list his twitter profile with Game Director. It's gone now.

Lead game designer on KZSF, Eric Boltes, one of SF's key leads now list himself as working on Horizon.

My read on this? RIP 2nd team , RIP Killzone franchise for the foreseeable future. Gonna be full on Horizon for the next 6+ years until time to start anew with another new IP or Killzone reboot.
