Drew Scanlon is leaving Giant Bomb

What an absolute bummer. I mean I'm glad he's moving onto bigger things, but as a subscriber, this really is a bummer - Alt+F1 (thankfully still alive) and the MGS playthroughs were why I decided to subscribe in the first place. Losing Austin was a bummer, and this is, too. Damn.
Wow, this is a huge loss for GB. GB West is absolutely gutted at this point. I don't want to me that guy screaming that the sky is falling but I highly doubt they'll recover (quality wise) anytime soon. Thankfully we still have GB East. Good luck to Drew though, he must be doing something killer if he's departing.

I will enjoy GB content regardless of who is providing it. I said previously that GB will be fine as long as Jeff is at the helm, he knows what is required to keep things fresh. I trust whoever they bring in will be great for the site.

that sounds wrong? if you're leaving a job and working notice, your company needs that time to replace you - they wouldn't be expected to wait for you to actually leave..?

I know it sounds counter intuitive but that's the way CBS operates. For such an important job with unique requirements I would think they would have stared looking for replacements as soon as Drew put in his notice.
I agree. While GB has done a commendable job finding a new identity following the passing of Ryan, I think this will be good. Drew and Dan leaving gives them a great opportunity to again evolve and potentially improve

I'm not worried.
I think most of the major players involved (especially Jeff) know what they're doing. Jeff's been a sustained presence because he's good at 'people management', knowing what'll work well on camera/mic, and figuring out how to walk the line between quirky and kitschy. When they've suffered losses in the past, they've made very good staffing selections. (And when the staffing selections didn't seem perfect, folks got shuffled or moved on in a way that helped things work out.)
No telling exactly what the next version of GB West will look like. But I'm pretty confident that v3.0 (or v4.0, or maybe v5.0, depending on how you count) will be good, too. They'll figure it out.
That being said, it's too bad that Drew's moving on.

That's the point of personalities, if you don't like listening to a person or their personality in general than what's the point of watching a video or listening to a podcast with them in it.
Giant bomb has a pretty sizeable crew and it's very likely that you wouldn't like all of them even if you like their content.
The poster maybe should have been nicer in saying that he dislikes a said crew member and yet if he doesn't like one of the GB staff than it's his right so say that and think that way.

True but I was mostly referring to his departure coming out of nowhere (to me at least), not that he left relatively shortly after joining GB like Austin did.

I just learned from this thread that people don't like Dan. What!? I love Dan! He's hilarious, and I love that he's moved over to Gbeast. Vinny, Alex and Dan is a great combination. That For Honor quick look they did cracked me up!
What if Drew because a freelance writer by day and pilot by rest of the day?

Damn. Are people leaving GB or is this lay offs? I know the y are choosing to leave, but it doesn't seem like possitions are getting refilled. I was waiting to see who was replacing dan, now scanlon's gone and who knows if he's getting replaced.
At this rate, i think they should just recombine with GB east, barring them finding some serious talent to fill out west. Also, goddamn someone for jeff's humor to play off of. He's like moe without curly with no vin or dan.

Jeff mentioned they're opening yet another position now that Drew is leaving.
So they're currently in search of an editor and a video producer.
Of course Drew is getting replaced, they need another production guy, same goes for GB East.
So they are going to be looking for Drew's replacement after he leaves, and are currently looking for another Dan/Brad/Jeff. Out East they are going to be looking for another production guy ala Vinny.

Well, usually salaries are all part of a budget. A set amount for the fiscal year. If Drew is leaving and has two weeks pay still on the books, they can't hire someone else and pay them in that same time period. Plus you have HR issues like Drew changes his mind on the last day. Now, you have to fire someone whom you just hired.

Working for a large company like CBSi, you can't just hiring someone right after the last person left. It just doesn't work that way.
They'll be adding a third req when Drew leaves.
Listening to this bombcast after knowing Drew is leaving makes it sad to listen to, especially at the beginning of it. I wish him the best of luck, I'm sure he'll go on to greater things.
And I for one am excited to see who GB bring in now that they're looking for 3 people, there's a lot of good people they could bring in out there.

I'm not sure about that, but even hiring an Austin replacement 6 months ago would still have not counted as 'right away'. This definitely seems like people who are in no kind of hurry to find replacements.
The Austin replacement was Dan moving out there though. You don't want to blow your budget on a hire when you know someone is heading out there.
Also, I hate the idea of rushing into a new hire, let them take their time and find someone that is right and not just there at the time.

Dan was already a giant bomb employee. They didn't gain a new hire, the open position just shifted from one branch to another.
And like I said, this is already FAR past the taking your time threshold. This is in probably not looking that hardAt all territory now.
You cannot just keep ignoring their budgets.
Look, they were not going to hire someone for Austin's position once they found out Dan was interested in going out there in the new year.
On the reverse, they cannot post a job listing for Dan's soon to be vacant spot until he is officially gone. So there was limbo there for awhile. And now that the listing has been up, Jeff has been pouring over resumes.
Finally, new year new budget so the East crew is looking for a new video producer and now that Drew is leaving, the West crew will put up the job listing once he is gone.
Bummed about drew leaving. I wish Mary kish wanted to work there. I think she would be fantastic. As hard as it is for me to say this....gbeast is now my fav. Jeff is the best part about west. West just hasn't been the same since Ryan passed away. There have been flashes of brilliance but not the consistency of 2013 prior.

I used to bitch a lot about Jeff and giant bomb but, after listening to just about every other podcast out there, the truth is that these guys are still the most intelligent and knowledgeable of all, and still quite funny!
I also don't get the hate for Dan I read here, he's freaking hilarious and a super nice guy.
