Drew Scanlon is leaving Giant Bomb

I like Drew but as someone who only listens to the podcast (and barely that any more) I guess I won't really notice. The games he plays align really well with my own tastes, but he's so hesitant to say anything about them.

Man...

What's sad is if you add East and West GB guys on one podcast it would be flatout amazing. Hell, I say let them do 2 podcasts a week with all of them.

Drew will be missed.

This is a big one for me. Drew was great. Sad to see him go.

Time for Rorie and a dog to step up to the plate and fill those seats.

Personally, I would take take a podcast that was just Vinny and Jeff talking to each other over either the Bombcast or Beastcast at this stage.

Will certainly miss Drew. I hope Alt+F1 continues with Drew and Danny in some form on their own. That series has been lots of fun for me.

Incredibly sad but if there was ever anyone it was hard to get mad at it'd be Drew.

For all the boundless insanity Dan brought to the West, Drew was always the level-headed calmness that balanced things out.

It's slightly cliched to claim he's 'irreplaceable' but I think they'll be hard-pressed to find someone as kind and sweet and, above all, talented as he is.

I would wish him luck but dude can fly planes. He doesn't need it.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Drew comes from money, right? Always seemed like he got to pursue his love. Maybe moving on to the "real" world?

Having a job seems pretty real world to me. And just because his family has a house in Tahoe doesn't mean they are wealthy.

Well that sucks. I was not a fan of Drew at first as he seemed to be so casual about gaming but that's what I grew to really appreciate about him being a part of the podcast.

We'll never forget Drew...

A great loss for GB, to be sure. Drew's positivity and enthusiasm brought a lot to the team; Jeff and Brad need that kind of levity to balance 'em out, especially with Dan moving East. GB West's next hire has big shoes to fill.

Best wishes in your next endeavour, Drew.

Every departure and move at this site is a hard one. It's such a small crew, and seat changes are noticeable on all segments of the site.

Hard not to be upset, but it's also harder to hate the guys for doing it. They've done good on us. Always important to recognize that the good times happened, can still be appreciated, and more will come in the future.

This is aweful. It seemed like just yesterday that Drew was humbly showing off his old Star Wars game editing videos he made as a highschooler. And now he's leaving?

Also Metal Gear Scanlon! :-(

Drew, you famously came to the office as a gofer, packing T-shirts, but a stray comment about your video editing training had you take on something more so Vinny could get in front of the camera.

But you took it further than that, going behind the wheel of your own work (creating the sweet, sweet chaos that makes Giant Bomb tick), pulling a Robin Hood, and other occasional highlights to the Giant Bomb reading/listening/watching experience.

That would've been more than enough, but the tragic passing of Ryan thrust you from background Duder into the chair of that hallowed institution known as The Giant Bombcast. I ain't gonna lie, it was rough there for months, but it was big shoes to fill. And yet you worked on it, slowly revealing a razor sharp wit and piercing turn of phrase to more than earn yourself that seat (all while still engauging us with that flight sim goodness.)

Also whatever the fuck this was.

As Vinny moved to NYC, and Dan and Jason arrived, you found yourself demoing derbies, partying Marios, and conducting espionage against terrorists, growing ever more into your role as a Main Duder.

But it has come to this. You gotcha something big lined up. Something I'm guessing is beyond video games? Even though you've become very learned in gaming knowledge and opinion in these 8-9 years, you always came off as someone who had very strong interests elsewhere, and I guess they call to you.

Good luck out there, Agent Scanlonski. We'll miss ya.

There's plenty of production/TV work in NY.

NOT HELPING.

Need to clone Dan at this point.

"HELLO, JASON!"

"HELLO, JASON!"

"HELLO, JASON!"

"HELLO, JASON!"

Drew will be missed. I like his perspective and energy on the Giant Bomb team.
West should just hire the Last Podcast on the Left team and do podcasts on murderers instead.
West coast Giant Bomb should hire the Last Podcast team from New York and move them all to San Francisco? Interesting strategy.

I had the pleasure of meeting Drew when he and Danny had a meetup in Austin. Totally nice guy, so polite and interesting! He was my favorite part of Giant Bomb. He inspired me to pursue my pilot's license.

I hope he goes on to do awesome things and be super successful.

I'll miss him, he was great and was low key hilarious.

I wish him the best in whatever he moves on to.

But man, GB west is looking pretty anemic now, I mean personalitywise it's just jeff and brad now.

This is a huge blow to GB. Not just west coast. He's that damn good. However, I'm confident they will figure something out.

Look at it this way, if they were able to get back on track after Ryan died, this is nothing. They'll find people. It's not the end of the world.

This is a bummer. Drew was always good for some interesting left field conversations gaming or otherwise. Drew had decent jokes when it counted and he wasn't a mushmouth, which is Rorie's big problem.

Rorie brings some interesting things to the table but he isn't as engaging to listen to and he needs some elocution lessons if he's going to be talent rather than production/backroom.

Jason is fine in videos especially when focussing on one thing but I actually don't like him on the podcast, he makes a lot of throwaway comments and asks poor questions. I'm sure he's great in production but I don't know if he can act as a pillar on the podcast.

GB West is in trouble. It really hasn't been great for years but at least they were trying to fix things on a regular basis and it never entered death spiral territory. Hopefully they do some thoughtful but quick hires for production and content.
