Amazon Cancelling Master Edition's of Zelda: BotW Orders

Brandon F

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Holy shit, Nintendo's supply chain really is a fucking joke.

Hard to believe this went down literally within the same period as Aonuma's Master Edition unboxing video. And now Switch accessories and units are having similar concerns?

I bailed on my Switch pre-order yesterday(long time coming and unrelated), but feel for all affected that really are looking forward to it and Zelda. I would be apoplectic if Nintendo was unable to stock a pre-order I had made literally the day of announcement.

Did anyone who got the cancelled order e-mail check their order to see if it was actually cancelled? I'm sure someone did but just want to make sure.

My cousin and I ordered ours within a minute of it going on sale at like 3am on amazon with our separate accounts for our separate apartment addresses. No e-mails saying that either one is cancelled but didn't get any e-mails saying that it's not cancelled either. I'm assuming that everything's still fine? I still see my switch and breath of the wild master edition set to ship on March 1st and arrive on the 3rd. Fingers crossed for everyone. Whatever's happening isn't right for sure. There's a lot of confusion.

Dear god people read previous posts before making a new post. Someone already talked to Amazon CS and said they sent the email to everyone who ordered. No need to worry. Done. Over. We good fam.

(As far as I'm aware there have not been any reports of this, but) I'm kind of worried about similar things coming from Best Buy at some point. I've had nothing but nightmares with bestbuy.com when preordering special editions, and my BotW preorder got in when they were opened up for a brief second period so I'd probably be first up for cancellation.

edit: i do mean the master edition specifically

Special editions of BotW are nowhere near as limited as Master editions. A ton more of those were made.

They would have cancelled by now. The shipments of the games and consoles have already been delivered from what I've heard. At least in the Midwest.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. Wish it was under better circumstances.

I just wanted to mention that EVERYONE should be contacting amazon about this. I just got off chat with a guy named Lou and got nearly 90$ in amazon gift card balance ON TOP of the 10 dollars that was provided in the initial cancellation. I would post a chat transcript, but it has my name littered all over it.

Essentially, Lou tried to find me a replacement copy of the Master Edition at other stores (which was hilarious imo that thats the solution) and found one on eBay for 170$ and issued me a gift card refund for the difference that I was going to pay on Amazon. Then, because he was awesome, he refunded some past orders of mine. It pays off to be nice but firm in these situations.

This sucks royally, I wanted that Master edition badly and was one of the first to preorder it, but getting nearly 100$ back for this ordeal makes up for it nicely.

It pays to complain firmly but politely.

That email was sent so late it's stupid of Amazon to even send it now. My additional copy was canceled last week sometime, the email should have gone out then. Sending it out today just served to scared the crap out of me.

I just got an email from Amazon saying one of my Master editions have been canclled due to high demand and that they are limiting orders to one per customer. The thing is, I only ordered one... My order isn't actually cancelled though, but now I'm worried it might.

Did you say anything in particular or just get super lucky?

It's YMMV. I've had reps give me $20 off on issues, and when a new issue came up on the same order, another rep freaked out that they are NOT allowed to give more than $10 or whatever. She sounded super worried too :x

Same thing happened with the $99 3DS black friday deal, you should be fine.

they are sending it out to everyone who has one apparently, if you just have one, there is no problem with you.

unless you get it cancelled somehow

A little of both? I probably got lucky in that I got a rep that cared, but I also stated 3 things...

1) I am a long time prime member with a long history of video game preordering from them.
2) I legit was one of the first to preorder it (I preordered even before the page was completely up) and people who probably preordered behind me still have their orders intact.
3) 10 dollars in compensation isn't going to cut it for being so close to release date without another purchasing option available on Amazon.

He searched for a while for a replacement product and came up with the eBay option because everywhere else was sold out (duh). I just explained that I'm skeptical about preordering on eBay, but I'm willing to take the difference he was willing to comp me in gift card. He accepted and thats where we ended up.

Yet another "reason" they've given. If that was the case, delay, wait, then cancel.

I doubt you guys are going to get a straight story. Chances are the reps don't know or only a few know the real reason (and everyone else who thinks they know just have heard it by rumors going around and rumors get twisted around by everyone understanding a little bit differently what some one else told them... I bet they haven't been told an official reason). Amazon probably doesn't even want them giving out a reason so probably hasn't told them (but maybe some have heard rumors and are just parroting those).

Exactly. I don't get this is a reason. Why not "Your shipment has been delayed" first? They went straight to cancel -- even before letting multiple orderers know.

Pretty much. We've heard several different reasons, all of which vary in story.

Would be nice to get an official statement or something. As for me, I'll keep hunting. Not giving up, and not looking for a big compensation payout, either.

Yeah I was trying to see if I could get someone who would know at least. She claimed that the supplier didn't send them any but I mentioned that a friend of mine still had his order. She asked me for his email so I gave it to her and she claimed she couldn't access the account due to a security code.

I know I was getting a run around and she gave me another $5 for it but still I'm gonna keep pressing this until we get some kind of statement from Amazon or Nintendo.

this is like ztd watch 2.0

32 of my 34 preorders just got cancelled, this is unacceptable.
did you hear amazon lost a box to some thieves? that might be why you were able to lose so many orders. personally i think it was usps, i heard they took a shipment from a handicapped person in uk, stomped on a box and sent the footprints to the recipient.
maybe amazon should've filed and claim insurance on your behalf since the government won't seize your belongings for being in debt. if you see any foot prints on your 2 remaining orders see if it matches the prints of the usps guy.

good luck!

The email they sent out specifically said the product "isn't available from the supplier any longer." That's the reason they've been given since the beginning (and the only reason).

There's no reason to delay. That sentence makes it clear they won't be getting another shipment.

I've got my console and regular version of the game pre-ordered through Amazon. Needless to say I'm on edge when I get an email.

Hell, this thread has me on edge about a pre-order of a collector's edition of completely different game because the page for said game keeps bouncing between "currently unavailable" and open to preorders, and I got my preorder in just before it went unavailable the first time.

Credit amounts extremely vary dependent on who you get.

I pre-ordered the Bravely Default Limited Edition box set a few years back, and because they put it into a regular padded envelope as opposed to a box, it got crushed in the mail. The innards were fine, but the box was horrible.

I called in just to let them know that they should package LE items better as they're not replaceable, and they refunded the entire purchase for me, apologized and told me to keep it.

I'm not saying to do that here, or anything... but, again, it depends on who you get and how your history has been up until that point.

2/3 were cancelled this morning, gents and ladies. So, be warned, they're still going, My little brother is losing his mind.

I'll give a call to Amazon later today to see what they say, so stay tuned

With all these duplicate orders being canceled, is there a chance Amazon will have inventory after the release and relist?

But the thing is I only have one master edition pre-ordered....

I also have a special edition pre-ordered (ordered for work).

When I check my orders, both are still listed.

It almost seems like they intended to stop people from ordering multiple but their automatic system fucked up and started canceling pre-orders for people who only bought one.

Either way this is a terrible situation. Amazon should have been clear from the start that it's only 1 per person and not done a 'whoops actually it's only one - let's cancel a bunch'.
