Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

I see circular shadow stripes on NPC heads (hair) like The Outsider. Running on a 1060.

I have basically just made my peace with the fact that this game runs like garbage. I got it for $20 and the gameplay is stellar, so whatever. FWIW it certainly runs vastly better than at launch, but I still get between 25-60 fps depending on scene and regardless of changing graphical settings.
For $20 I'll bite, where did you buy it from?

Unfortunately this was a sale on the retail PC CD from Dell's online store just before Xmas. It's over now.

I actually bought the game at launch for 60, got a steam refund, then bought it again two months later. Along with Hitman for like $15 from GameStop. It's really cured me of ever buying games at $60 again. What's the point?

Yeah, never pay sticker price for a video game in this day and age. I can't even remember the last time I paid a full 60$ for a game, honestly. On the pc front you can get most games with a steep discount day1 from some places though, but I rarely buy games day1 anymore due to performance issues that seem to plauge every aaa launch these days for months on end.

Sorry for bumping this thread, as I know everyone's waiting for the patch, but just wanted to share something.

I've been running this game on a 2500k, 970, 8GB DDR3, and I've been able to play up until the seventh chapter without too much issue, but I did have to turn everything down a heck of a lot, and it still wasn't perfect.

Recently, when messing around, I swapped to Borderless Full Screen, and dropped the dynamic resolution, and it's had a dramatically positive effect on the performance. I've loaded up older save files to test areas that were previously problematic, and even at a higher preset, performance is a lot better.

Can't say I know why, but I'm just happy the game is running as well as it is now. Just thought i'd post it here, as hopefully it'll work for other people. Sorry if it doesn't.

Started this today

Seems to be running between 50-60fps @ 1080p w/ everything on high + hbao+ on my 970/i5 4590/16gb ram system. Very high textures.

Disabling hbao+ puts it a stable 60fps but the game doesn't seem to have any AO if you turn that off... unless I'm missing something?

Either way seems to be running fine, I guess their patches did a lot of work since launch!

No need to apologise. Opinions on performance are part of the reason why these threads exist. There's no such thing as an egregiously late bump.

Okay, after everything running fine yesterday I'm getting a weird bug today. My mouse seems to just randomly stick when turning. Like it'll just stop dead. I've changed the batteries on my mouse, so I don't think it's that. It was so weird though, I wasn't having any issues like this yesterday. Played a good 3h.

edit: uploaded a gfycat. https://gfycat.com/DeficientWhirlwindAegeancat#?speed=0.125 if you watch at 0.125 speed you can see that her hands are still animating when the camera gets locked, so the game isn't freezing.

That's the sort of thing that happens on my system when CPU usage hits 100%.

So.... still running like shite then?

*sigh*

Does anybody know if they are still actively working on this? Be nice to free up the space on my SSD. Put it in my special "fooking broken shit" steam game category.

Is anyone else noticing significantly lower measured performance in the new beta patch compared to the previous release?
My framerate is in the 30s and 40s in locations where it used to be in the 50-60 FPS range now.
It seems like that might just be the game more accurately reporting performance?

I'd have to test to be sure, but I'm noticing a lot more objects popping in now too - but it's been a while since I last loaded it up so I could be mistaken.

They haven't fixed Steam Controller support though. Button prompts and vibration keep flickering on/off with mixed inputs. (gamepad movement & mouse aiming)

This game is dead. Theyll probably push out a few updates and some DLC but i dont see performance getting an better than it currently is. Biggest disappointment in recent gaming memory for me.

Well, fuck that. I will probably never play this game again.
Same. I haven't played it since Thanksgiving break because I was waiting for shit to get sorted out, but there's so many high profile games releasing soon I don't see where Dishonored 2 fits in anymore. I have 3.5 hours of game time logged so I can't even get a refund now :(

I guess I'm just very lucky then cus it runs fine for me on a 970. Not a locked 60fps but better than even post patch Arkham Knight.

What settings are you running it at? I put everything on high and textures on very high. Lens flares, motion blur, and DOF off; and the rest of the quality options on. TXAA, triple buffering, and HBAO on. I also did the Nvidia Inspector tweak.

I'm still wrapping up Brigmore Witches in Dishonored (1), so I've only ran around in the opening level of Dishonored 2 to test things, and while it holds 59-60 most of the time I do notice some stutter here and there. I'm aware that performance issues get more egregious later on.

edit: finished Brigmore Witches now, woo! Dropped shadows and decals to medium after I noticed that it dropped frames really badly when looking at certain stuff. Set RTSS to 61 (not as 'framey' as 60 or 59) and in-game frame rate limit to 120. Fast vsync & triple buffering through Nvidia CP. It's definitely running more smoothly now, but I imagine the worst is yet to come. Tried turning off HBAO+ as Garret Hawke suggested below but didn't notice much of a difference. Maybe it'll be more evident later? For now I kept it on.

I have HBAO+ off because it's very expensive in this game :p

My set up is

EVGA 970 SC factory clock
i5 4590
16GB DDR3
Running off an SSD

I'll post my settings in a min

Are they communicating with the people that bought the game or are they just >attempting< (i hope) to fix it in silence.

I saw an interview recently where they claimed the PC version was fixed and ran beautifully so...

I haven't played in a month or two and have no urge. Performance had improved but so inconsistent :(

The ongoing issues with this game are absolutely tragic. I don't know that I've ever seen a better game hamstrung by technical BS.

FWIW if you are stuck in Karnaca Docks, I don't think the game's performance ever gets worse than at that point.

I'm currently on my second playthrough and I've just adapted to the frame times. Playing a smooth game like Titanfall is going to be real weird after this.

So after waiting months for patches to fix this game I finally got the game in a playable state.

I was so excited to play this day one, having to put it aside to wait on patches to make it playable made me very sad. Don't think the latest patch made much difference (although past patched definitely improved things) but I have done enough tweaking to find a sweet spot I can play on.

For a little while I started thinking about just getting the PS4 version for my PS4 Pro, even though it only runs at 30fps. However I have it running pretty well now, and unquestionable superior to the PS4 Pro verson. I still get some stutters but it is certainly very playable. Just should be better with my specs.

Played 6 hours last night and the game is amazing. Such a shame the performance is so bad. I also ended up having to turn off Rivia RTSS, because while it gave me better frame pacing and reduced stutters (the biggest issue I have), it caused the game to crash every 15-20 minutes :(

Here is my set up -

CPU - i7-4770K
GPU - GTX 1080
RAM - 16GB
Installed to an SSD

My settings -

Resolution - 2560x1440 (lower resolutions made very little difference!)

Everything at Ultra except Shadows at Very High (tried several things lower based on the recommended settings but it didn't seem to make any difference).

HBAO+ ON - Off gives a slight reduction in stutters, but at a large IQ cost.

AA - TXAAx1 - Sharpness 7 (FXAA looks horrible and gives no performance boost I could tell)

Everything else ON

Border less Window mode (seems to reduce frame pacing issues)

Triple buffering ON - Off causes game to lock at 30fps for me!!!

V-Sync OFF - Forced ON in Nvidia control panel for better frame pacing

Adaptive Resolution OFF - Does not work well and introduces more stutters

FPS limiter 60 - Not sure if this makes any difference

And finally I use Reshade 3.0 with adaptive sharpness to remove the Vaseline filter the game suffers from. I also use Ambient Light and Colourfulness (both slightly turned down). Gives the game a much richer colour palette. Honestly the MASSIVE difference this makes to the IQ in the game is incredible, without Reshade 3.0 the game looks drab and blurry even at 1440p!

^^^^^^^

Can you get some footage of your game running? would love to see how it looks and plays.

I'll try. I actually forgot to mention that I have been closing Nvidia Geforce Experience too, you know, just in case it makes a difference. No idea if it does.

But I will turn it back on and try and get a few minutes of footage. And some comparison shots of ReShade on and off too.

It's a shame that the game has such issues because it is a lot of fun to play. I have an i5-4590 and GTX 1080 and am playing with it maxed in 1080p and usually get between 50-60fps although it has dipped into the 40s at some points.

This matches my experience too, which I posted a few weeks ago. Once I started using borderless window mode, I had a much better time running the game.

I'd recommend people who're having issues try comparing their performance with and without it on, and see if it's any help.

Just make sure you run in borderless windowed mode as others have suggested. It felt like a whole different game after I did that.

Borderless windowed affects gsync?

Btw just bought the game, doesn't run that well, not horrible but not great. The problem is when you turn the camera the first time you move the analog stick it stutters then after a second it's smooth. I haven't monitored framerate but it feels ok 2/3 of the time.

i7 5820k 4.2ghz, 16gb ram, 980ti G1 oc, game running on ssd, 1440p gsync

I don't think this advice is universal across all setups. I'm running a 1070 into a G Sync monitor and borderless makes performance worse for me. Regular full screen works great now.

Is the general consensus to turn most/all of the settings down to high or very high? I'm about to start playing this and I'd like to get it running smoothly from the get-go. I've got a 4690K and a GTX 1080, playing at 1440p.

With a GTX 1070, the auto preset seemed good to me, though I have to drop the texture quality setting down to the lowest because my 2500K is too slow to handle anything higher. Borderless windowed mode is much smoother than fullscreen for my system too, which is not usually the case for most games.

I played through the intro and explored the Karaca Docks for a bit and while the game seems to be running well it looks and feels the opposite half the time. Everyone in here wasn't kidding about the mouse feeling strange, sometimes it just seems like it skips a beat while moving it and more often than not the camera movement just isn't smooth despite having 80+ FPS. It's annoying because some of the time the game is perfectly smooth with no stutter even if it dips below 60 FPS but then I'll hop inside a building and get 80-100 FPS and it looks super jerky.

I turned off adaptive resolution and hit the auto preset (with water turned up to ultra) and while I'm completely happy with the frame rates I'm getting the game just feels poor. This thread is surprisingly long and I've done a few searches but I haven't been able to find if people had found a definitive fix for the jerkiness or not. If anyone has tips I'm happy to hear them.

It's such a shame about the uneven performance, apart from that I think the game is amazing so far and it looks really nice as well (with a touch of Reshade sharpening).

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Should I buy the PC version?
I have a PS4 pro but also a PC with the following specs
I7 3770k
16gb ram
Gtx 1070

I ask because it seems impossible to run at 60fps on PC. How's 1440p at 30?

Bronetta

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Shame about the technical difficulties on PC ruining peoples experiences.

The game itself is phenomenal. I beat it a few days ago and keep thinking about doing another playthrough.

Yes, and perfectly achievable if the game doesn't maintain 60fps consistently enough for your liking.

Hopefully bumping this thread hasn't given anyone false hope... but I just noticed I have "Dishonored 2 TESTING" in my steam library. Anyone else?

After finishing some games of my pile of shame I could finally started Dishonored 2. Man, this games looks gorgeous in 4k! Unfortunately, this game is far less playable at apparent constant 30FPS than any other game I have played. Although my frame times seem to be perfect at 33.33ms it's like I have some microstutters. A real shame because it's so beautiful. However, even on 1440p and with constant 60FPS/16.66ms per frame it feels like having microstutters when I turn around.

Any known fix for that?
