Why don't conspiracy theorists think conspiracy theories are a conspiracy? (couldn't think of a better title)
It would make sense right? Conspiracy theories distract from real things going on, doesn't that make them a conspiracy theory? Just some food for thought.

I can't tell if this is thread is being facetious or not.

But that's clearly something that's already happened. Look at how conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones have been co-opted into broader white nationalist movement. So much focus on the absurdity of each conspiracy obscures the underlying racism that binds them together.

I'm sure there's folks who think competing conspiracy theories are a conspiracy theory.

It's like bringing a bunch of folks who all think they're Napoleon into a room. They're all gonna tell you these other people are clearly not Napoleon.

You don't understand. They're playing 14th dimensional chess here. The government knows the conspiracy is real, so they make a conspiracy theory about the REAL CONSPIRACY to discredit it as a conspiracy theory. Real truthers realize the conspiracy conspiracy is a conspiracy, and double triple cross back into believing the conspiracy.

We already know that there's a conspiracy to make people think that conspiracy theories are just conspiracy theories, so it shouldn't be too surprising if conspiracy theorists are just part of a greater conspiracy to use conspiracy theories to prevent conspiracy theorists from seeing through the real conspiracy. But the conspirators are smart. If they weren't, we wouldn't have to resort to conspiracy theories to find them.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
They do. There are conspiracy theorists who think the government creates false conspiracy theories to distract from the real conspiracy.

I'm only thinking this cause that is really only like 2 layers deep, ya know. Like if they can accept that everything on layer 1 is a lie with no problem, why can't they even peer into layer 2? Are they that powerless?

They do. This is why quite a lot of conspiracy theorists hate David Icke.

Conspiracy theorists are heavily invested in knowing something that other people aren't privy to, and they'd lose a fair bit of self value if they admitted they were wrong. It's sort of similar to cult behavior, and why cultists have to go through deprogramming to get back to a rational state of mind.

but if they believed the conspiracies were conspiracies they would know even more than everyone else

Conspiracy theories feed off of distrust of 'official' sources (government, mainstream media) and generally anything considered establishment.

Anything intertwined with these official sources are inherently corrupt, and anyone questioning them is free of the establishment corruption and therefore free of ulterior motives.

Isn't this proven fact?

I mean, the whole "conspiracy theory" thing is just brought up to make people seeking the truth look crazy!!!

Look at all the people who just want to know why the twin towers and building 7 feel down in a controlled fall without damaging the verizon building.
Also, why weapons of mass destruction were reported to be in Iraq to start a war...but then there were none?
Or why Osama bin laden's body was never shown and if the ISIS beheadings were green screened.
And why was a child that was reportedly killed in sandy hook also reportedly killed in a school shooting in Pakistan?

Those people are just CRAAAAZY!!!

Conspiracy just means people working together for a goal. Like it's a conspiracy theory that bankers worked toget her to screw over America, and have Americans pay for it. Which they did. Or regime change.

The theory is the focus for ridicule if that's what you want to do. But the conspiracy part is quite simple by definition. It doesn't have to have tinfoil undertones.

I don't get upset at the idea of a conspiracy, just baseless ideas. When you lash out at anything labeled a conspiracy, you pay for it. Literally at times. But people would have been told they are being conspiracy theorists for shedding light on banking, or something as recent as the Dakota pipeline where you have private business and government conspiring together for a goal.

So as far as your question, misinformation is a powerful weapon that intelligence agents use. You'd have to approach this as a case by case basis, and not a blanket lul. Trump is very effective with misinformation and theories. It's turning quite dangerous, but it's a current day example of what you're talking about.

Ufo rumors were spread/not acknowledged to hide the sr71/stealth fighter development. It happens, and I'd say most in these circles have an understanding of the possible lie to cover up something else.

Conspiracy theory has an obvious connotation to it, this thread is not about the mislabeling of conspiracy theories

Because they don't care. It's not about the conspiracy itself. It's about using it to make themselves feel smarter than the general public.

You generalize conspiracy theorists. I myself am just a hobbyist. I don't really believe any of them but I think some of them are interesting and I always like to see what kind of weird circumstantial evidence people can come up with. For example, I enjoy reading and viewing theories about 9/11.
Do I think the government literally colluded and somehow pulled off this crazy sneak attack? Fuck no. But we do know for a fact that the general public has never been given every single detail about 9/11 and random people on the internet have made up some crazy shit and I find it entertaining.

I'm my last edit, black projects had intelligence allowing Ufo sightings/aliens to develop to hide the projects currently worked on. That way they don't have to have coverage of their airframes, or have to answer any reporters. It's aliens lol, and that's where it ends. I mean it's a thing in the community. So you're right that sometimes distractions are a conspiracy.

It may not be your intention to muddle the two, but I can read just a few posts to see that the lack of clarity is leading it down that road. Just look at how folks are using the word.

I went through an episode of psychosis after I stopped taking a seizure medicine cold turkey a year ago. I thought everyone on GAF was in on a conspiracy against me. If I had read your thread title then my head would have probably exploded.

Some do. There are in fact conspiracy theories about intelligence agencies spreading/fanning stupid conspiracy theories to drown out and distract from legitimate ones.

Well its a good thing that didn't happen!

Incredibly Naive
I can't tell you how many times I have to remind people of the sheer amount of witnesses on 9/11 and the amount of luck it would take to not have one credible official say... hey wait a minute there was no plane! In return I get insults hurled at me and called a mindless sheep.

9/11 conspiracy theorists don't argue there were no planes...

9/11 theorists always aggravated me because they're literally trying to find a complicated explanation for something that can be explained with the thought that maybe, just maybe, the government is really just that incompetent sometimes.
