A bumper week for gaming is led by ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ which tops the chart as Sony’s biggest ever PS4 launch of a new IP (ahead of No Man’s Sky).

Released on Wednesday ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ is also the biggest launch of the year so far and Sony’s biggest launch since ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’. Ubisoft’s ‘For Honor’ (-45%) falls from No1 to No5, having to make way for both Horizon Zero Dawn and new Nintendo Switch titles. Released on Friday, Nintendo Switch brings with it ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild’, which debuts at No2 for both Switch and Wii U. 78% of sales were for the Switch version with 22% for Wii U. The Switch version becomes the 3rd biggest ever launch of a Zelda title, behind ‘Wind Waker’ on Gamecube and ‘Twilight Princess’ on Wii. There were 5 new Switch games at launch, 3 of which enter the Top 10 including ‘1-2 Switch’ new at No4 and Konami’s ‘Super Bomberman R’ debuting at No7. The Switch version of ‘Just Dance 2017’ helps Ubisoft’s game re-enter the Top 40 at No24 (+68%), while the Switch version of ‘Skylanders Imaginators’ fails to lift the title back in to the chart. The only other new game to make the Top 40 this week is Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead: The New Frontier’ which begins life at No19.

Horizon is gonna be the biggest flop of 2017, they put a embargo on reviews because everyone knows the gameplay is super repetitive. I mean, guerrilla games can not make a good game to save there lives recently.

Key Points

. Gameplay is boring and repetitive, dodge and kill mech, do that for 7 hours.

. Great Graphics to cover up the fact from above

. Story is probably the weakest that GG has ever put out

. Will be in the bargain bin in probably three months
I think Horizon will be sent to die.
Zelda is a bigger franchise and Sony knows that, maybe a reason they're willing to take a hit on a console so people buy Horizon too
Horizon looks great and will sell well but if you think it will outsell Zelda, you are crazy.
Sony must be SHOOK

Horizon will be overshadowed by Zelda x switch tbh
There's no way Horizon outsells Zelda. Like, both are going to do very well, and Horizon has been wonderfully marketed, but even though the PS4 install base is massive, this game won't necessarily appeal to everyone that owns the console.

Meanwhile, practically everyone that gets a Switch will be getting Zelda, and a reasonable proportion of Wii U owners will get it, too.
Ill be shocked if zelda doesn't win next week.
Fucking knack sold millions just because it was a launch title
Just another case of Sony being reactive to Nintendo that people will just handwave as something they were going to do anyways.

As a matter of fact, I feel a little bad for Horizon now.
As for HZD, don't be. It will do just fine. I just hope no one is expecting BotW numbers for it.

Congrats Guerrilla, Absolutely deserved!! and That too for a new IP from a Major Developer, I hope Other Publishers and studio will take some notes from them.

Great for both titles. Amazing that two games of such high quality can be released in the same week!

Wonder how much those extra days on sale helped with Horizon?

Not surprising at all. Huge install base + massive marketing push, not to mention that the game looks absolutely incredible.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Horizon and Zelda dominating... Good week for gamers.

Good performance by both Horizon and Zelda BotW.

Zelda being 75% of the total Switch software really shows how this launch is a one game show, but it was expected.

Lower launch than TP was pretty obvious, how much did WW sold at launch because this seems to me more interesting.

Where are you getting that it was 75% of total switch software sales?

Does the Zelda figures account for digital sales, in terms of comparing it to the franchise's earlier numbers (ranking third) ?

Considering TP launched in a similar manner (ie cross gen) i would say it's not great.
The Gamecube version of TP was delayed so I believe they're not counting it in TP's launch sales, so this would be TP Wii compared to BotW Switch+Wii U
Edit: Beaten.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Usually GFK charts / news strictly talk about retail sales, so no, I don't think digital is included for any of the aforementioned titles.

small difference is that TP launched first for the Wii first then more then a week later it came out for Gamecube.

Here, both were same day release. Don't know if that means much, still what a start to the year with these great games

That Top 5 looks good for a change in the UK.
BotW behind WW and Twilight Princess is quite normal given the install base of GC (and Wii's Holiday release).
It will continue selling during all Switch's lifespan.

I think people forget how much the Wii U bombed in the UK. Even the GameCube was a much bigger success here. Plus there's no way Switch launch was bigger than Wii launch. The Wii launch was an absolute phenomenon.

GameCube + Wii launch userbase is going to be way higher than Wii U + Switch launch userbase.

Considering the 75% attach rate for switch i doubt it means a lot.
