I'll have to keep an eye on this. Any sort of demo hitting? I think I saw it on the Japanese eShop, but didn't seem to have a demo I could try out.

I don't think there's a demo on Switch, but you can always try the handful of free songs on mobile if you want to get a feel for how it plays.

Welp just picked it up, always a sucker for touch based rhythm game, with DJ Max Technika being my all time fav having spend over $100 to unlock all the songs on android but the always online can get so annoying at times so glad this doesn't have it

I tried out the demo on my phone earlier this week. A rhythm game for the Switch AND it's a launch title? You had my money already but I wanted to see how the gameplay was.

Fast forward to a few moments ago when I purchased this game from the Japanese eshop, lol.

It's a great game. You play the tutorial song and after that, all songs are unlocked. 3 difficulties, also unlocked from the start.

It's simple in the sense that there's just 1 mode: pick a song and jump right in.

The play field is pretty cool. It's not static. It goes very well with the music. Can be tricky at times as well.

There are speed mods to increase the speed in which the notes come down. 10x is the highest. Songs have their own mods, and that goes back to what I mentioned about the play field not being static. A note might come down from the left but it'll move to the right as it's coming down. It definitely keeps you on your toes.

It also has calibration. I changed it to -20. Very slight change. Definitely not off sync and you might not even have to calibrate it.

There's also the option to add a sound when you hit the notes.

Here are some pictures I took:

There's over 100+ avatars you can unlock.

You start off with 3 keys and you can use 1 to unlock 3 random avatars. How do you earn keys? There's a "Diary" menu where you complete challenges. The first challenge asks you to beat a song on easy, getting a B or higher. This earns you 4 keys. You can't see the next challenge until you complete the current one.

When you do complete a challenge, you unlock a piece of artwork. There are 76 challenges so 76 pieces of artwork.

MrvCU1h.jpg

You can sort the music by A-Z or by difficulty.

There's an indicator on top, 2 diamonds, on either side of the word "combo". If you're getting nothing but perfects, it'll be in gold. If you get a perfect but then an OK, those 2 small diamonds will turn blue. It's only when you break combo that it'll turn white.

A few moments ago, I got all perfects on a song (gave me an S grade) but that doesn't give you the max score. There are 2 kinds of perfects. Think of it like Marvelous and Perfect in DDR. I don't know if there's a higher grade than S.

I am very impressed with this game. I could have waited for the US release but I'm glad I didnt.

Something I wish they had were leaderboards. The mobile version has it, correct? Maybe in future updates it'll be added.

This is a definite buy if you're into rhythm games IMO. A surprise launch title and a great price.

My first full combo, on the easiest difficulty possible but still #itsastart, not bad so far, slide notes can get confusing at times especially the white dotted ones since they could moves the notes around but good fun, I wouldn't mind getting more mobile ports of these kinds as long as they're priced accordingly, would love a DJ Max Technika Q port even though I already have it on android

i like the game a lot but i kinda wish that there was a button mode. i like touch based rhythm games like tap tap revenge, Elite beat agents or theatrythm but the accuracy of a button based one is just higher. It would also solve the problem of this game being just a handheld mode game (although i have little beef with this).

also can anyone give a song recommendation? there are so many songs that i am kind of overwhelmed.

Wow these are great impressions, thanks. The avatars are new to the Switch version, I think, which makes sense because they need something to reward players for progression now that it's not free to play anymore.

So if I buy this on the Japanese eShop and play with my US account, it'll give me the English version of the game, right?

Thinking about getting some Japanese eShop credit so I can play this and blaster master early.

Yes the Japanese version contains the English version.

Is this one of those game that forces you to play through easy and then normal modes first? £18 is kinda steep to jump in, might check out the iOS version first.

No. You have access to all songs and all modes immediately after the tutorial.

Just to confirm, when you use keys to unlock avatars, there's a chance to get a duplicate. There are rare and super rare avatars from what I see. A little icon appears next to the avatar when you unlock it so you'll know.

Yes sir. That's what I did. I could have waited till next week but the weekend is here and I wanted to spend time on it.

So since I purchased it on the Japan store, do I have to be logged into the Japan store for updates?

Also, I wonder if (when the US version is available) you could delete the Japan version and download the US one since you technically already own the game? Not a big deal since switching accounts is very easy. Just curious about this.

Was almost put off by the price, but thanks to new console fever I ended up just buying it anyway and am glad I did.

When I opened the track page and I was amazed how I just kept finding more songs by scrolling to the right. Can see why it was priced the way it was now!

There's a lot of song variety too which is always great.

As a rhythm game casual I can't really go over any complexities in the gameplay, especially since I've not really tried any of the difficult stuff so far, lol. That said the touch screen seems really responsive and the game play seems solid so far.

I have a hard time seeing if this game is for me. Great bang for your buck, seemingly interesting gameplay, but I don't care for the atmosphere and story mode, and most of all, I don't know if the soundtrack is for me.

Every video I see is of the hardest songs, which are way too techno-y for me. Based on those, I would hate the game. What other kinds of songs, if any, are there?

Guess I can do that. I remember playing DJMAX Ray for a bit & liking it, and this seems similar. Though considering the Switch's bigger screen, I figured that would give me a better first impression compared to my phone.

I'm guessing the song length is of that of a regular rhythm game, i.e. 1:30 to 2 minutes long?

Yeah that's about right.

Asian Pop, Electronic, Dance and Dubstep.

Well, here's the track list from mobile which is more or less the same on Switch.

Again, thanks. Just listened to 3 random songs. Not really feeling it tbh.

It's a shame because I need to scratch that rhythm game itch, but I basically hate/am indifferent towards any game that's not Ouendan or Rhythm Tengoku. I always hate the soundtracks, the generally sterile look and feel, and the gameplay mechanics. Plus, VOEZ in particular really looks like a budget rhythm game. I know none of the artists or songs, and while I don't need everything to be made by Porno Graffiti, it's nice to have a decent number of "safe" songs that are just easy to listen to and let me focus on the flow of the gameplay without wanting to pierce my eardrums. I like a wacky/charming/warm aesthetic too, which very few such games provide aside from Ouendan and Rhythm Tengoku.

A real shame. What a great deal this is, wish I could get excited for it :/.

Most rhythm games are all about just previewing at the song selection screen and playing whatever you like. Forget what name is attached to the song and just follow your instincts.

You know what? The mobile versions are free to download, so just download it on your phone and preview a bunch of locked songs. You can even play a rotating selection of temporarily free songs that way.

As for your preferences, right now Time Phase Pt. 1 (jazz) and Wilt (ballad) are free to play on mobile. Excellent contrast from the mostly electronic selection.

Yeah, I know, and thank you for the recommendation... But I can do that since I don't have Android or iOS on my phone :/. It's alright though, I'll just pass I guess.

I finally bought this earlier through the Japanese eshop (which was easier than I thought) and am loving it! Even after a few hours of play I've gone through ~30-40? of the 100 or so songs which is excellent. Basing off my experience with osu's mania mode and similar games this was pretty easy to get used to, except for the almost constant moving of the tracks/bars that I found to be somewhat annoying at times but I suppose it keeps things dynamic and adds a level of challenge. For me, the Hard difficulty provides the best balance of fun and challenge. This game seems like it's made for tablets or devices with large screens; I don't want to imagine how it would play on an ordinary smartphone. I really hope more games like this come out on the Switch.

Also, does anybody know why this game isn't a launch title for US peoples? It's odd that the European and Japanese versions are out but not the US; the Japanese version I have appears complete and without any noticeable issues. It makes me think that something happened with the preparation of the US version.

Well I don't know the details but I do know that it was almost literally a last minute addition in Europe; it was announced I think 2 days before launch hence why I mentioned having to make the OP on rather short notice. They did say that they only made it for launch in Europe thanks to Nintendo's help.

Maybe NoE helped them speed through certification? I don't know.

I'm glad people are realizing that this is a great game and is 100% justified in its tablet only mode.

I'll be picking this up the day I finally find me a Switch!

Wow, I had no idea it would be so close like that! I forgot about Nintendo's certification process, that seems understandable for a slight delay in release should it be the cause.

Just tried it. Yup, this is a hard song lol. I think I got a C as well.

I just finished playing Bataille Industrielle on Hard (11). That's a fun chart IMO.

Hah I just did a song without me doing anything just to test what the lowest grade is and still got a C score so I'll take that attempt as failing misarably xD

Lol give yourself more credit! Maybe a C+ :p

The song is rough at some parts. I played it a few moments and got a B. I still need to figure out the ending. My mind and fingers need work together, lol.

In case you guys didn't know, when you're on the song selection screen, you may see a blue or gold small triangle on a song tile. That means you got a full combo on that song.

Gold means you got a perfect combo. Nothing but perfects.

Blue means a full combo but you ended up getting an "OK" during the song.

Very interested in this game, just tried it on Android but saw how much the F2P mechanics are ruining the game... Will maybe take that on Switch today, sounds cool!

Here's a tip for anyone doing the challenges for keys: use the keys as you get them because using the keys and sitting through the animation takes FOREVER, especially when you have more than 100.

And, I found that getting rare and super rare (R/SR) avatars are pretty easy to get, so that's nice.

EDIT: I don't know if this is posted elsewhere but this is what some of the rares look like

One thing I wish was better (unless I missed something) is that I wish it was easier to tell if the notes you play were perfect or just ok as you hit them rather then see them all at the end since it does factor into the score, I had one song where I only missed one note but only got a C and when I played it again but focused more on precision hitting I missed like 4 notes but got a B

This game is therapeutic as someone else mentioned. I've only played it a few times when taking a break from Zelda.

Just now I've acclimatised myself to 7x speed and hard stages regularly, getting a B score on average. But now I have to get used to using more than two fingers since I'm finding if I want to go faster, two won't do.

In NA. Planning to get this game. Curious if there are any content differences between the JP and EU regions so far, since it's strange that it would be released a week later in NA. Also a tiny bit concerned if future updates are going to be released at different times for different regions as well...

Finally got this, have been playing it all afternoon! The Switch's screen is *so* much better than my 5S's for Voez - I actually have room to use more than my index fingers! Here are some of my scores:

I really wish there were leaderboards though.
