Damn, compare the Zelda attach rate in western markets (90%+ in France) to this... It's pretty bad for a franchise like that. Granted, it's better than Twilight Princess with the Wii, but this time there's no Wii sport to compete.

Solid start for the Switch- sounds like supply's a little rough, so we'll have to see how the numbers hold up.

How does that BoTW Wii U/Switch result compare to Twilight Princess's Gamecube/Wii debut?

2006 MC Sales: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24968678&postcount=3

TP Wii (2 days of sales, released 12/2/06): 139.011

TP GCN (2 days of sales, released 12/2/06): 24.900 (per Bruno's post below)

(Seems it was only available through online retailers in JP.)

BOTW NSW (3 days of sales): 186.379

BOTW Wii U (3 days of sales): 44.602

Afaik it's rather similar, but the GC version of TP was Nintendo store exclusive in Japan (and I think they had 50k at first and ended up shipping 70K LTD).

Ah, this is the info I was looking for. Thank you Alrus!

Disgaea didn't even chart? What the hell is up with NIS at home field, man.

Solid results all around for everything else.

rip disgaea 5 complete sales...
Guess that means no more NIS games

to be fair disgaea might have done decently digitally. it's the type of game you play in bursts over a long long time, so people may have opted into a digital copy to load it up whenever.

but yeah less than 5k physical units sold during a console launch when people are most likely to randomly buy games is not a good thing at all.

I was planning on waiting on getting it in english when it came out, but if best buy has another visa checkout promotion I might have to pick it up to help support it as I like portable disgaea.

Way better numbers than I expected for Horizon and Zelda WiiU!
Cool for Bomberman and 1-2-Switch as well, nice! Same for Nier.

How big do you think the digital numbers will be? What's the game with the best digital sales at launch on any Nintendo system?

I remember Xenoblade X had some 20k? But you could preload it.

We are talking early adopters so probably more technically minded than a typical console owner so could see digital sales at the higher end but again probably 20k at best

I hope they try at least once more to establish a base. I'm not sure if NIS can sustain themselves on PS4 alone long-term and I don't want to see them die (though I guess NISA is doing good work preventing that).

TP Wii (2 days of sales, released 12/2/06): - 139,011

TP GCN: can't seem to find out - seems to have released the same day but not charted

Ah, seems it was only available through online retailers in JP.

BOTW NSW (3 days of sales): 186.379

BOTW Wii U (3 days of sales): 44.602

The GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was available through online purchase only.

Initial shipment according to Famitsu report was 24.900 units.

Seems like people are potentially buying a Switch without any games. I imagine they know it has no streaming video/Internet functionality at this time, so I guess they just want it day one out of Nintendo fandom and/or concerns about difficulty finding one in the near future.

It's a good abbreviation. I was hoping for SWN a la GCN, though.

It doesn't consider digital purchases, and there are demos available. Also, there's a Splatoon 2 Global Testfire later this month.

Thank you. I couldn't locate those numbers. I'll edit my post. It's much appreciated.

I didn't think of these aspects. Thanks for the reminder. I imagine some definitely bought it just for the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire given when a phenom that game is.

Keep in mind I'm not entirely sure those numbers are correct. Initial sales are probably lower than 50k.

Thank you. Bruno was able to provide the specific numbers, but I appreciate your info as well.

Keep in mind, we don't have the digital numbers yet.

Well, keep in mind that digital share is not as big in JP as Western markets.

And I believe digital shares for physical games on Switch will be even smaller then the market is used to. Its just so much better to own the cartidge

I dont believe digital will have a big impact

Why do you say that? I just did some quick math and there is more Switch software sold than Hardware. And I'm not even sure if there are other non-charting Switch games

I expect digital will at least be bigger than it was on Wii U, buying a micro SD card is far more practical than a big bulky hard drive

I originally mis-estimated, sorry. As you and Chris point out, the SW > HW. Also, as others have pointed out, there are scalpers, demos and the Splatoon testfire as additional reasons to purchase but not get a game (since the SW is not that far above HW I'm guessing some bought multiple games and some bought none at all).

Zelda clearly doesn't have the same appeal in Japan, I'm concern that this can affect Switch sales in the coming weeks.

When Mario Kart 8 DLX will be launched?

If they bought a Switch for a demo I swear to god...
Also I'm buying dishes 5 when it comes out over here I want NIS games and Disgea 5 sounds like it's pretty good.

Thats prob true, I just dont think it will be anywhere close the ~30% that PS4 and XB1 have been getting on Western markets

Should have had a MH port ready to go for launch, Nintendo paying for the port would have made too much sense. I know what I'm doing on the 18th.

Disagree with the bolded completely.

And digital will only increase as time goes on, even in Japan.

The high bar for a title on PS4 in Japan is generally 20% with a 10-15% range more often.

On 3DS 10% was an oddity and almost never happened, everything was generally below 5%
