A list talent would be fun, but, honestly, you don't need it. You can find good voice over actors pretty readily. There are great people out there wanting to work.

Beyond that, though. direction and editing goes an enormously long way to having a good end result. With editing you can really fix up a performance. It's like no one who was involved in getting the NA voicework done gave a shit.

Yeah obviously you dont need A list talent for every role, but Zelda, Impa and The King of Hyrule would be worth making an exception.

It would also be much more understandable if Zelda in the Spanish Latin dub wasnt the Voice Dub for Jennifer Lawrence (Specifically Katnis Everdeen) and Supergirl. (Among others) Seems like Nintendo went A list for some of the Dubs. So why shaft the English version? Why have VAs double up into multiple roles when there are only about 20. Its just pointlessly cheap.

So i just burned (literally) through 8 items of food because i ran out of fireproofing potion effect on my way into the
Goron
city.

I managed to reach the shrine there in time, so i'd have a teleport point ...

The fact that "heat protection" does nothing with regards to how fast you lose hearts there is something that i should've known before cooking like ... 15 of those meals.

with regards to selling materials: My rule of thumb is: Unless i have 30+ of an item i don't sell it .. if i have 47 bokoblin teeth, i sell 17 to beedle. It's not like you need rupees that badly.

mipha is the worst and king rhoam is fairly bad too. revali, urbosa, zelda, and daruk range from fine to good. i think zelda is one of the better ones in the game and that the actor did a particularly good job with her. i really couldn't imagine what a pain it would be to hear the japanese voice instead... as much as it was suited for a dramatic moment in a trailer.

I'm at Death Mountain with the Goron and I went past a bunch of drone guardians and got to a place with a Death Mountain marker #9, a couple of giants, and a cannon and the path ends there I think. I don't know what to do here. I don't see anything I can shoot or any other path.

Finally back to exploring. Gerudo desert has got to be the worst.

Got the house and the final fairy unlock. I think my next big purchase is the ancient armor.

Is there a way to upgrade my heat resistant set and no I don't mean the fire resist from Death Mountain.

i will get this masterpiece as soon as i'm done with my damn exams

one thing i'm worried about, most of the footage i've seen are in the open map and it's all green with no variety

what i love about Zelda is the Dungeons, is there as much dungeons as the previous games ?

There is a huge variaty in environments and enemies.

And there are 120 mini dungeons and 4 big dungeons. Plenty of content.

Zelda sounds like an adult woman doing a shrill voice in an attempt to sound young, all the while layering a poor British accent over it. Also just poor acting, bad inflection, and overly melodramatic.

Mipha was possibly even worse for similar reasons and I'm guessing has the same VA as Zelda. Grating best describes the segments in which they appear.

The old man sounds like a 20-something trying to sound like an old dude. Bad to the point it's funny. Definitely not as bad as Zelda or Mipha.

The only halfway decent voice acting I've heard so far is the lady voicing the Gerudo Champion.

The direction for the voice acting must have been awful, because it sounds like half the time the actors don't know anything about the context in which their lines would be spoken. The game would've been better without it. Too bad it's not possible to have the Japanese voices with English subs. For all the time they spent on developing this game, I do not understand why they decided to skimp on the voice acting. I haven't played any JRPGs in a while, which I'm sure are still just as great in this department, but BotW definitely has the worst voice acting I've heard in a good long time.
It's the worst VA I have heard in over a decade. It ruined to story for me because it made me cringe at all the character moments.

My god I loved Hyrule Castle. Haven't beat Ganon yet, just did a thorough exploratory run.

I was so happy when
Stalnox dropped his eye
and even more so when
his chest had the god damn Hylian shield
. The
Lynels in the gatehouses
were quite exhilarating, so much so that I felt my right joycon hop a millimeter or so up its rails. The mix of the traversal abilities at your disposal in this game with an interior labyrinth and those guardians...Hyrule castle is just the pinnacle of the action and exploration gameplay of BotW.

Idk. I haven't had that good a time with a game in a long time. Was a bit disappointed that the
shrine didn't have the green tunic
:p.

...

I'm on 89/120 shrines now; got my last towers and beast today.

I'm disappointed in the main dungeons. They're good, but not much meatier than the also good shrines. There also aren't many of them. Ideally, if there's another open world Zelda, there'd be like eight dungeons I think, and more in line with classic Zelda dungeons.

I like the shrines a lot. They are the main hook of the experience for me. I like the open world a lot. It is probably my favorite or second favorite open world, with Morrowind in contention. But it is searching for shrines that is the primary driver of my exploration. It is a great carrot.

That said, I also really like it when the shrine challenges aren't so discrete from the world. As with the
labyrinths, that dark place, the survival island, etc.
. But, I don't think there's enough of that in the game. The game could really use caves, classic Zelda caves.

There are some nice action set-pieces, like Hyrule Castle, some of the towers, Zora's river when it's raining, etc. But there aren't enough of these. Classic Zelda caves and more dungeons would do a lot towards this too.

Also, I like Zelda. I laughed a lot at her (Hyrule castle, again)
struggling with Link's silence
. It's a refreshing take on her so far. The story has grown on me some lately. It was pretty meh to me until I started to appreciate what they did with Zelda.

Not all shrines are mini-dungeons. Most are challenge rooms. I don't think they should be mis-represented. But there are definitely mini-dungeons in the game even outside of shrines. Various locations either as part of a story quest or as a lead in to a reward shrine behave in this way. These are part of the overworld and often connected in ways where it isn't clear they are what they are until you get actually get in and start doing it. There are also optional bosses and special encounters designed into areas all over the world.

BotW is unlike any Zelda game ever and it can't really be compared in terms of counting content in the same way.

You will be suprised how much variation there is in tje world. I came to a place in the north eastern map and was blown away by its beauty and will it still felt like a part of the same world it still managed to look completly different. It is simply amazing.

The shrines are nice. The dungeons are below average.

Finally finished the game.. after so many hours.

I must say its definitely in legendary category but ultimately has a few flaws.

Bad Zelda VA really makes me cringe
Really weak story... I was really expecting more from the end game boss and ending. Ocarina of Time still reigns supreme

@ Koren: You can encounter Hestu at another stable as you progress. Do read his dialogue carefully though as he points you in the direction of where he'll be next.

He told you to follow Hylia River north. Do that and you'll eventually find him at
a stable.
Pretty sure I managed to miss it since I already reached Z
ora domain
and completed
the mechanical elephant even if I haven't beaten the boss to spare arrows
. I'll look around there, I hope I'll find him again. Thanks to both of you.

Anyone beat the labyrinth legitly? Lol
Yep... Strictly by memory, too. It's not that convoluted.

how do you beat it?

I made my way through the labyrinth (and i'm quite sure the layout changed multiple times) but i made it to the top area, but i could only find various chests. So for all intents and purposes i 'beat' it, i feel.

When i climbed to where the shrine is, the gate is locked - how do you trigger it to unlock?

So. Master sword

Why does the damn thing demand heart upgrades. I feel like a fool for upgrading stamina

exchange stamina for hearts in Hateno village, only costs 20 roop per, no big deal. Then switch 'em back. You made the right choice, go for full stamina first to allow faster/better exploration, etc.

Wtf. Been to that village and didn't even know that was possible

Backtrack to the 2nd canon and use it to fire at the lizard, that will move it to canon spot 3. Then do the same and move to 4.

Yeah I did first labyrinth (Akalla) without the map, by memory and trial and error.

The other two I had the map for, got an idea where the exit would have to be and targeted those areas to explore.

Can you leave a clue behind? Didn't do that. But does the distance, at which items return/disappear prevent that?

Oh wow, I almost feel sorry for the Guardians now.

(Item and Ability spoilers)
Master Sword and Stasis+. There was a Guardian here, it's gone now. Stasis interrupts it, and the Master Sword just tears limbs off it, flipping it over in the process and suddenly those 1500 HP just melt away. It's gotten to the point where the red laser sight has changed from a "RUN! RUN!!" response to a semi-resigned "Fine... let's do this, then." response, followed by humiliating the spider-bot.

What's with the mini guardians in shrines being stronger than the big ones?

Ancient arrows do nothing, the Master Sword doesn't power up against them.

I'm guessing they did it so the shrines would still be a challenge but it just seems weird.

I think the VA is more inconsistent than horrific. I find lines often vary from good to bad - usually from the same character in the same scene. It's jarring.

Mipha
is a prime example of this.

I've heard worse though. It's just mediocre, which is disappointing for Zelda.

Those have a challenge outside the dungeon usually, entering them is the puzzle, and I love it .

But yeah the dungeons need to make a return. They are not a "convention" they are a foundation.

The Master Sword not working on them makes sense. They have not been corrupted after all.

So, i'm like 10 hours in the game and i've yet to go in the first village lol
One question: at some point, i found an enemy outpost filled with some kind of "dark magic" mud, and if i go on it i die almost instantly. Can i do something or i have to go further in the game?

It's because they aren't corrupted by gannon right?

God Damn, why is this game so fucking good? I'm angry at my friends, my job, my natural need to sleep all because they keep getting in the way lol.
It, it's amazing in a way I haven't experienced in many years from a game.

It's absolutely fantastic. I've been too busy playing to read or post about it.

I've done 2 Divine Beasts and around 66-67 shrines now.

I'm putting the other two divine beasts off still, I still just want to explore the world. I'm certain there's loads of stuff I've not seen yet.

Reward shrines are usually the best though. They're the ones with the best content in the game because they act as destination/end markers for a more substantial puzzle or boss or mini-dungeon in the overworld itself. The challenge to claim these rewards often involve environments and scenarios which go far beyond the framework of an actual shrine.

I thought they called it "open air" just to have their own way of saying open world, but now I see it's because it's mostly outdoors.

Yeah. After playing for a while, I would like more music.

I actually dislike the regular battle theme and most of the mini boss themes.

Yeah so far really none of the music has impressed me. I get it's an open world game and the sounds of the world have been really nice, but I'm in the same boat wishing there was more music throughout now. Really the only music I've liked so far is the labyrinth theme.

Yup. I actually feel sorry for these guys, compared to Silver enemies and Lynels they're actually the easiest enemies in the game right now lol.
I'm hunting them to extinction for those sweet Ancient armor upgrade materials.

That sounds interesting. Haven't encountered my first proper dungeon yet as I've just been busy exploring. But, it would have been amazing had there been fully fledged dungeons in the game though. I don't think the mini-dungeons you mention can really substitute it.

For me, had there been traditional dungeons on top of what the game already offers, this would have most likely dethroned OOT as the greatest game ever made for me. Oh well.

so I just encountered the

aye. There's no "blessing of..." shrines (i think that's how they're called if they're just chest + shrine, with no riddle) that didn't require a more or less significant challenge to be completed prior to reaching the shrine.

(like:
killing a dragon
, doing the
korok woods
challenges, solving environmental riddles.)

at least none that i recall.

btw, there's a quest about that
monster vendor
where - i believe - a guard at some stable (akkala i believe) wants me to take a picture of him. I took multiple pictures of him at various distances, but the questgiver still doesn't offer to complete the quest. What am i doing wrong?

Yep. As I said on the last page, this sort of content is definitely a highlight of the game for me.
