Horizon Zero Dawn |OT| The Land After Time

I think the game could have used a difficulty higher than very hard. Even @50 I don't think I should be able to survive a thunderjaw lunge. The combat is solid enough and fair enough that I would've enjoyed a Soulsborne level of unforgiveness for making mistakes.

i'd agree if it didn't take a minute to respawn after dying.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
I really think some of you guys are spoiling some important things here.

Not everybody has already finished the game.

Keep those things for the spoiler thread, it's not that hard, for fuck sake.

I agree, the "southerners" spoilers are some REALLY severe spoilers, I'd argue even deleting those and keeping them out of this thread alltogether. Thankfully I'd already advanced past that point in the story but I'd feel bad for anyone getting spoilered that way.

Would love if they added a NG+ with a harder difficulty later on

The story of this game is exceptional... its really the most impressing thing about the game in the sense that i was expecting amazing visuals, but never such quality in the narrative. And the dialogue is so good most of the times, very well written/ acted and it really makes you feel that they thought about every line and they deliver aiming for a mature audience.

Anyone else getting noticeable colour banding in HDR?

It's quite prominent in the foggy/ white skies.

Tried various setting but it won't go.

Started today.

Holy Shit. What an Opening.Superb Stuff.Cutscenes are superbly done.Music is simply Awesome and goosebumpy.

Gameplay is Nailed here.So good to Hunt Machines. They are truly awesome to fight with.

That fight with Sawtooth was tense for me.

Excited for the Proving now.

Great Start to the Game must say.

Yea, I was so happy after I managed to kill the Sawtooth, but that's nothing compared to what's to come. The game is great right from the start and then it just keeps going up, this is truly fkn insane! And those landscapes!

So I haven't had much time to play this because of tons of work > vacation somewhere with friend > back to more busy work. I had started the game and was probably about 3-4 hours maybe?

I put in about 3 hours last night... when only had time for 1... worth it.

I played passed the Proving part of the story. Are there going to be more "oh shit" moments like this? That was pretty crazy stuff.

Same. I really don't understand the people that need nothing on their screen or think it ruins things. *shrug*

It actually does, when you do the main quests or you have to follow the tracks, the updates on screen and their frequency are just ridiculous, 40% of the screen is covered.

Having nothing is a bit extreme, but damn it needs to be trimmed to be enjoyable.

It's not that it's ruining things. I just prefer the clean look of no HUD. I probably wouldn't do it if they didn't implement touching the touch pad brings up the HUD for a few seconds before it disappears.

Then again I go out of my way when it comes to immersion. And boy does Horizon do immersion well.

Man, I was just going to do some farming on some shellwalkers. I fast travel to that area landed near the site and boom 3 Tramplers and a StormBird. I knock off the Tramplers Horn with a tear away and boom the sound of the tear away introduced 2 SnapMaws from a near by Stream. So now there are 3 Tramplers(18) 2 SnapMaws(20) and a StormBird(20) in the vicinity. I seduced to StormBird to Follow me to some HighGrass and a couple of Trees and took him out and soon as his ass is toast fucking 2 GlintHawks(16) take the loot. Now I'm in Sawtooth(20) territory and 2 sawtooth are patrolling, Hacked 1 and watched a great fight ensue. Mind you this shit is own my way to farm shellwalkers. I was only gonna be on to get my shards up to buy an upgrade and spent an hour randomly fighting shit I didn't plan for, but it was great.

The corrupted zone with the two Rockbreakers is no joke. Can barely touch them I'm too busy running around.

How did you guys do it?

I accidentally cheesed it when I aggroed some Glinthawks and basically just watched them fight each other while pelting arrows at the Rockbreakers.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Holy shit.

I have to actively tell myself to stop fucking about in photo mode otherwise I won't finish this game.

HDR is very hit or miss for me, and I think it's something that won't truly show its potential unless you have a very top of the line TV.

everything is on.

GROSS! ^_^

Everything off except for the weapon and ammo display. I'm trying to play the game as organically as possible. It's especially exciting fighting robots and having to rely on visual cues for their health (which the game provides aplenty) but never knowing quite when they'll go down.

Yeah game does a great job in visual cues. Had a Thunderjaw on the ropes knowing it would go down pretty soon, so when it charged and ran into my blast trip wire and this gigantic thing topples over was a relief. Knowing it's on its last legs but not knowing exactly when it will go down is coooool.

An epic reminder that on top of all of the things this game does right, it does environment destruction really well too (I'm not that far into the game so there's not that much destruction going on in the icy lands, but I'm excited as hell for this kind of thing).

Pepper with freeze till the frozen status procs and then hit the sac under the belly with triple sharpshot arrows. Be wary, they tend to go boom

Dynamic everything just works so much better than having everything on. I don't need to see my health bar and everything else while I'm wandering around the world. I want to see all the details of the environment and not have my screen covered by the hud at all times.

Yep, this is basically what I've been using. Makes for better gameplay vids/gifs and you can always tap the touchpad to bring up the rest of the HUD whenever you need it.

In the games defense, the carriage does eventually go off road and its abandoned so at a point you do need to use the focus.

That trail just heads right where you need to go on that one, there is another sidequest with a similar trail that was slightly different iirc

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be an insult, but you don't have to have focus activated to follow the trail. It's there for people who want/need to use it.

Easy chief, just joking around.

How come it feels like I just wasted 2 skill points on low profile? I don't see it making the eye any smaller.

Yeah, I've been wondering the same thing. I seem to be pretty hard to spot so it *might* work even though the eye remains open?

I just can't believe how much vegetation there is out in the wild and all of it is animated and casting its own shadow or reflection.

Most of the foliage does not cast it's own shadow, there is a lot of ambient occlusion use though. It would be incredibly wasteful for all the grass to be casting shadows as there is so much of it. The tall grass generally casts a shadow, and of course all the taller items like the cacti and large rocks and strees, but the short grasses doesn't.

I realize people are not used to seeing "lots of graphics" though so when you see "a lot of graphics" a lot of times people assume there is more going on than there is. This isn't the only time it happens and won't be the last either.

I'm not taking away from Horizon graphics, it's the best looking open world game available by quite a long margin and does crazy stuff with the PS4 hardware.

No where does it say that it shrinks the eye. I don't know why people think that. The eye just tells you if you're visible or not, not if you're actually hidden from their sight (I hope that makes sense). The perk works fine. There are no extra visual cues that it is working.

"Screen covered in HUD" feels bizarre to me but then again maybe it's because I'm playing on a massive projector. I still never cared much on my old HDTV either though. I'd rather always know my health and stuff just in case.

I am having the same feeling playing this game that I had playing Uncharted 2 on PS3. Like being on the high point of the console generation.

Can someone answer me two quick questions;

1) I've bought four maps from a merchant... does every merchant have different maps or am I just rebuying the same maps? Is there a method to this? Each merchant covers a certain area? Do only some merchants sell them?

2) I'm trying to buy all the shadow weapons from Meridian but for one of them I need some Crystal Braiding. Can I buy this from a merchant because I haven't come across any in the wild :(

1. Same maps
2. I've never seen it for sale. It comes from bigger machines.

Yeah, I figured as much but nice to get confirmation.

I'm thinking of upgrading from the default ropecaster, on the trader screen they all seem to have the same base stats but do they fire stronger ropes or is the only bonus the extra mod slots?
