Who's getting Persona 5 for PS3?

In wake of a certain other major release also being on older hardware, curious who's backing the dark horse for P5.

But Why?
  • The game was developed for the PS3.
  • Much like Persona 4 for the PS2, this is likely going to be one of the last if not THE last PS3 games of note.
  • Differences are negligible, mainly load time related.
  • The black header just looks cooler.
  • It's cheaper.

Not me. My PS3 sounds like a lawnmower.

Me. I've never played a Persona game, but really want to try it out. I own a PS3, but not a PS4, so it's an easy choice for me.

I have a PS4 but I ordered it on PS3 because I'm a weirdo. I got it for $40 with GCU. I just wanted the cheapest version and when I saw the differences were small I went for it.

The PS3 version is currently the only one that runs on PC, so there's that.

Unless some miracle happenend in the emulation world the last two months or so, then it's "running" at 3 FPS on the PC, have fun with that, lol.

Good for you, critics say it might be the best Persona ever made and even one of the best JRPGs ever.

EDIT: Nope, runs like crap in this 2 week old video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8iWDv4f8zw

Guys buy the game it's worth it.

Just the experience of using a PS4 compared to a PS3 is worth $20. Shit controller, slow/outdated OS, no captures, etc.

Yup, the quality of life jump in console generations makes me loathe to even touch my PS3 these days. I was gonna turn on P4 to show the girlfriend the other day but said fuck it when I realized I'd have the hook up the PS3 and deal with it.

I have a PS4, and had the game preordered for it, but I cancelled it after the last delay since my hype went down and I had already paid for the PS3 a few years back. Altus will probably release a definitive edition in a few years for the PS4 or Switch, which I'm probably buying as well so getting the PS3 version is no big deal.

It's a miracle! :p

Last but not least it was time for Nekotekina to work his magic as well. Almost three weeks in the making he finally committed his reservations re-rewrite which not only increases performance in this game by some 50%, but also gives a nice boost to the overall performance of RPCS3 in general. For example, Persona 5 is almost ten times faster than it was before, now reaching 10 – 30FPS on a fast CPU.

I guess if you only have a PS3.

But I cannot see why if you have both consoles.

With the PS4 you have:

  • Standby mode
  • Remote play
  • Better loading
  • Easy screen capture and sharing
  • Native streaming support
  • Better controller
Seems like a no brainer.

No graphical enhancements for PS4 except resolution then ?

That's pretty disappointing for such a big title. Might hold off on it for a while and get it cheaper then.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I can't come up with a single compelling reason to play that version... unless you don't have a PS4. And frankly, the less I have to use the PS3 for anything, the better. Such a bad system in terms of controller, UI, etc. -- just a comparatively shitty experience playing anything. So yeah, no.

I'm not, but I think it's cool that it's actually getting localized. They could have just as well only localized the PS4 version and there probably wouldn't be very many lost sales, but they decided to go ahead and stick to their original promise of releasing it on PS3 even in 2017.

I wouldn't know, it's going to be my first.

Apparently it's fine for games to have no enhancements, but it's not okay for others. I'll keep that in mind.

Go play Persona 2, we'll wait. And I could care less about graphical enhancements, but that's just me. I also enjoy the Drakengard series, so I'm likely insane.

Not sure what you're trying to say to me.

I'm sure the game will look and run decently enough, but I must've missed the memo that GAF was okay with straight ports from PS3 to PS4 in 2016/2017.

As someone who never played a Persona game before, why should I give $60 for a port right now when there are other good games coming out next month ?

I am. I don't plan to get a PS4 any time soon, so the PS3 version is my only option. Fortunately the differences between versions are not that significant in this case.

Well this is kind of an odd situation because there are not many cross-gen games still being made outside of sports titles. I'm pleased with the way it looks currently. You are obviously not that into the game like some of us are so just wait until it is cheaper if the lack of upgrades/enhancements bothers you that much. It's not a big deal either way.

You could play the best game in the series for about $15 instead. (2)

Seems crazy to think this was my most anticipated PS3 title. PS4 all the way, PS3 had Catherine and that was good enough for me for a Persona replacement.

Seeing how we still have Catherine tournaments on a regular basis and the scene is only growing. it's funny to think how well it's standing the test of time.

I don't have a PS4 but I will get the PS4 version because it has a CE and because I will be getting the system eventually.

Bloodborne, Nioh, The Last Guardian are the trinity that force my hand.

A poll would be interesting.

-Getting the PS3 version, no PS4.
-Getting the PS3 version, despite having a PS4.

-I'm not getting it.
I'd definitely rephrase "despite having a PS#" to "have both." There's this sort of smugness I'm getting with the last option phrased that way, and may as well go for symmetry.

I'll probably get ps3 version, no reason really..
Then I suppose if they release a final edition later on I'll get that for ps4.

I often buy multiple versions of the same game, I just like collecting.

I was planning on it until I caved and got a PS4 for TLG and some other games. Also told myself it'd be better not to play it on that old super hot machine. So P5 was part of that value calculation.

You know how everyone is loathing the idea of using a clunky, slow console with a terrible OS? I swear I felt like that when I first got my PS3 back in the day. It's honestly one of my least favourite consoles ever. Huge, ugly, slow, the Mexican store was a joke for ages, mediocre controller, the library was a massive step down from PS2, etc.

2017: P5 on PS3 outsells P5 on PS4 by 10:1. Every mayor publisher goes crazy and from now on releases a ps3 port for every game.
2025: Witcher 4 on ps3 runs at 320x200/20fps.

That sounds like it's straight out of a Foster Wallace videogame-related novel.
