Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

lmfao wtf

This was caused by somebody deliberately spamming the strafe buttons on their keyboard alternately while moving forward. People reproduced it that way. This isn't any kind of usual running animation.

People are just manufacturing things to hate at this point. Why did I come back over into a thread on this in general. Stupid move.

Yeah, once you get to the Nexus it truly begins to feel like a Mass Effect game. I really have no clue what people are talking about when it comes to bad dialogue, other than the infamous line.

Really enjoying getting to know the crew.

It says a lot about the underlying gameplay, RPG systems, and characters that I'm enjoying the game as much as I am despite a truly astounding wealth of bugs and animation glitches. 35 hours logged so far, en route to Monday's review.

[*] The audiomix in MP is straight up broken, with sound effects playing at max volume regardless of direction and distance to the source. Will no doubt be fixed, but very annoying nonethless;

There were some similar problems in ME3, like when someone else playing a Vorcha would do a melee grab and stab over cover. It sounded like it was right next to you when often it was in a different room completely.

I wish I could do this. I just rubberband everywhere..

Yeah it's absolutely unplayable for me. I wanted to sink my 10 hours in the multi. It's seem so fun though :(
My girlfriend is currently trying to play and I'm just hearing guys on the mic getting angry because they're teleporting everywhere on the map and can't do anything.
A lot of "GNNNN RRAAAH GRMBMBLL FUCK" xD

What's with the massive hate-fest this game is getting? It was my most anticipated of the year, is it really that terrible? -_-;
The hate is probably a mix of people still upset over Mass Effect 3's mishandled ending, increasing frustration with BioWare in general, the crazy high quality of recently-released games this year, disinterested passersby fanning flames with superficial nitpicks, and some genuine concerns over quality based on the beginning hours.

There are plenty of people still excited and those enjoying their time with the trial. Combat and multiplayer seem to be a universal highlight so far, barring some reports of wonkiness that will probably be smoothed out with patches.

Looks cool, would probably do something similar but might go for a female this time round (Used male shep in the first 3)

The game isn't terrible, but people are tired of Bioware's terrible animations and were expecting a much better character creator after DA:I. Mass Effect is a huge IP that is backed by EA and yet the game feels cheap in many areas. The production values are nowhere near the level of other big budget games, that's just the reality still. Early days but it reminds me of Fallout 4 - dreadful animations and mediocre to terrible writing.

This is the first Mass Effect on current gen and running on the same engine as BF1 - people were clearly expecting something great. Hopefully the full game somehow ends up being much better.

Will the updates to the Character Creator be live on release?

GAF hates Bioware for some reason

Sad, but kinda true. Calling Mass Effect Andromeda "terrible" means you deem it less than average? If so, some people have really high standards for games they consider average.

I don't have too much experience with Mass Effect but I really don't think this is terrible.

If you take some of the people on GAF, ME3 was the cause of the online pass, famine and had the shittiest storyline in video game history. I do understand why some didn't like it, but that was BioWare's vision. They caved and changed it as well.

Say what you will about ME3's ending, but the gameplay itself wasn't a slouch or terrible. ME is one of the few western RPG franchises I actually have the drive to finish.

Yup talking to people on the Nexus was great. Felt like Mass Effect, and characters there had great voices to me. Think Tann is that Pakistani guy from Silicon Valley? He's perfect for a Salarian, the Turians have all been great and so have the Krogan. Really looking forward to the full game. Especially since I really like the exploration on Eos, can't wait to be able to do more.

Kesh is definitely an early favorite of mine!

I dont think its possible for Bioware to write a game worse than Fallout 4.

1. Maps have to be small to make enemies be really dangerous.

2. Gameplay is amazing on higher difficulties, because it forces really high level of team play to finish all waves.

3. You can actually manipulate jetpack a lot with aiming, because you hover then and with dodge move.

1. You could argue for the humanoid AI to be more aggressive and mobile, but your point is fair too. However, given the size of the maps I don't think it's unfair to say there's not much content there

2. Can't say much about this, I only wonder if this game remains fun when you find a consistent way to beat those difficulties.

3. That makes me remember, aiming felt off in 2 ways: Lack of an independant aim sensitivity slider, and my point of aim/reticle was off-center coming out sprint inconsistently. Adds to the clunkiness

I get this line of thinking. So far I think this game is a fine Mass Effect game, just like Fallout 4 is a fine Fallout game. But expectations were reasonably much higher, being the debuts of these games on the new systems.

There's a load of very obvious bugs

What the "load of very obvious bugs"? Are we still talking about faces and some animation jank and the nomad wheels clipping? What are these horrific bugs?

Watched some selected highlights on YouTube. Holy shit, this looks bad.

I absolutely love ME1&2.

I mean, what were these "selected highlights"? Was it a blooper reel where somebody cut together every awkward animation moment and the horrible "tired face" line?

Has there been any word on the input lag / horrible aiming on XB1? It just feels bad to play. Not sure if it's input lag or some acceleration issue but the aiming is totally off.

Am I alone in this?

Using an Xbox One, and I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. I just might not be very sensitive to input lag.

Yup aiming at least in MP feels like vanilla RS Siege before they fixd/improved the aiming in that game.

Where the hell is renegade and paragon? Why do I not have any choices? Starting to feel more like a telltale game. Your only choice is being sarcastic or serious.

What the hell is up with the menu input lag on PC? The whole system is incredibly sluggish and made character creation and absolute chore.

Just started playing the multiplayer.

Hard crash in less than five minutes. Jesus fucking Christ.

Yeah, I've had a lot of hard crashes today. Nothing last night. Weird. Kinda getting disappointed in the game.

Not sure if I should pre order it in the state it is.

Nope, there's something wrong with it. Worse in MP though. Adjusting sensitivity by one notch up on both axis made the game feel slightly better.
It is workable once you get used to it but it is not ideal. (Default Halo 5 settings are far worse so it is not that bad...)

Also, toggling off Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration helps the game's looks massively, both were really overaggressive, making things look blurry.

That system was removed.
You pick what you feel like, rather than being shoehorned to things.
In theory. When you got 4 responses... Too often you have only two, leading to getting shoehorned to other stuff... at least those are not tracked...

They moved away from the hardline paragon and renegade bar. The choices are now "emotion".

Vanguard class stays winning

I got tired of them in ME3 MP to an extent ...I never played them much, but other would they would dominate bronze games when I first started in MP. It was the constant AAAAHHHHHH, AAAAAHHHHH, AAAAAHHHHH, AAAAHHHHHH that got a bit tiresome.

Then by the time I got to gold matches, people would treat it too much like bronze, so you would get AAAAHHHH, I'M DOWN! Then they went away and I hardly ever saw them, started to miss them. The Cerberus vanguard class was fun though and felt more viable in gold+ too.

This is one of my favorite things about Andromeda. You can define your character through natural responses without being railroaded into a Paragon/Renegade path. It's infinitely flexible.

The choices still affect how quests play out, how characters react to you, etc. It's just very subtle. I replayed a quest with one potential love interest, and a different set of choices was the difference between the quest ending in a makeout scene or just playing out like friends.

Animation bugs. Whatever.

You would think in the 5 years it took to develop the game it would work properly.

This game feels like an early access product I bought off Steam where a bunch of diehard fans got tired of waiting for a proper Mass Effect and tried to make their own spiritual successor.

Renegade/Paragon was terrible. You knew your response to any situation before you encountered it.

Yeah. This is hyperbolic.

Is it normal that on Xbox One S, characters in dialogue still have low res suits full of aliasing like in the old games?
Are they serious with that shit?
