Nier: Automata PC performance thread

Mentioned it earlier, there's something off about some of the cutscenes for sure. Not sure if that's the general way they are, or a specific problem.

Do you happen to have a gsync monitor? I'm also at 1440p.

Not gsync, but freesync. I don't have an AMD GPU though, so I'd imagine it wouldn't really make any difference.

A shot of 2B just standing there squeezing her fist running at 20fps makes absolutely no sense. It's so weird.

I think solid 60 fps? with a few drops res at 1920 and cutscenes running like a 12 fps

The more and more I play PC games (at least modern ones) the more I wonder if fullscreen should even be an option. Borderless window seems to fix so many issues in so many games.

Window and borderless = input lag on Win8/10, you can get around it in 7.

so the scaler is just broken for fullscreen or something? When I set it on higher res I'll still get performance drop but it looks kind of the same, lol.

Finished the intro, I'll just play it in fullscreen since I can max it out (with 2x AA) at 60fps with a 1060gtx, I don't mind the blurriness. Game is insane, having fun so far.

Ok, this all sounds very similar to Metal Gear Rising. I would advise you to check the resolution and refresh rate the game is running at. The solution in MGR often was to force the game to run at 60 Hz. I think that game had problems detecting the correct monitor/TV settings or something and maybe they still have that problem.
You can do that in your Nvidia settings. Not sure if AMD supports it by now, but back then you could use RadeonPro to do it!

Report back, maybe? I'm scared now...

If the game crashes, I would try the same thing as a last resort.

It works now that i set it to run in windowed mode while using Borderless Gaming.

About an hour in and no crashs so far on an nvidia 1070.

That's maxed at 2560x1920 with 8xAA. Running an i5 4690k@4.8Ghz and GTX 1070 it's a hard lock on 60FPS.

Looks off because it's poo-poo JPG from Steam. Meant more to show FOV and not graphical quality.

Ah, ok. It probably looks even more off to me because I was looking at it on a 3440x1440p screen.

I really wish someone could confirm 21:9 @ 3440x1440 for me and how it performs.

I have a 1080 and 6600k.

The pre-rendered cutscenes are definitely not 30fps. Something weird is going on. Otherwise I am getting capped 60fps at 1440p with max settings + 2x AA with this set up:

980ti overclocked
4790k @ 4.5ghz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Windowed mode with Borderless Windowed activated.

Game plays like a charm

and honestly, the BW input lag problem is exaggerated, I don't feel a problem in comparison to fullscreen 60fps and I play most of my games at 144hz usually.

No one else is having the issue of the game past the logos just being a black screen? Tried disabling gsync, disconnected tv, and so on and nothing works :/

1080p fullscreen, vsync on, 2x AA, 4x texture, no blur, med shadow, high effects, AO on

I went through the very beginning and didn't fight the first miniboss but everything was locked at 60 didn't dip anywhere. Really super smooth I'm so happy. But I have to head out so I can't even play until tonight zzz

Before I had gsync, the vsync options that exclusive fullscreen gave me were preferable to what was always-present in borderless.

With gsync, I generally keep it disabled in windowed applications and turning it on for them is a step I don't really want to bother with.

This is aside from any performance degradation that borderless can bring and my utter hatred for multitasking while playing video games.

Wait, is this true? So If I play in borderless window, the only way to get 21:9 at my native resolution as I understand it, then I will have to deal with input lag on an action game?

Due to the changes made in W8/10, borderless window mode introduces lag in a lot of games, yes.

Cut scenes play back at 30fps anyway, unless there's something wrong in the encode. I think it's just jarring going from 60 to 30 like that

Runs pretty well. I was ok with the AA on until the combat picked up. Seems pretty intensive so I went and turned it off. Locked 60 since then

Even with AA off I still think you get some kind of post processing AA solution. Game doesn't look all that jaggy.

Running at 1080p border-less windowed mode with a Pascal titan, 6700k @ 4ghz, 32GB of RAM no problems so far. One crash.

solid 60fps no dips which is nice. Shame about the fullscreen bug

i guess the post processing effect added in for the Pro release is enabled by default for PC even with no AA options selected?

So I'm still debating on pc or pro, I have a 970, 8gb of ram, and an i5 6600k. Thinking I should just stick to the pro w/ all the issues people are having. What do you guys think?

game seems to run fine for the most part with the occasional framerate drop (it hasn't happened in combat so it doesn't bother me too much) but oh boy as soon as any cutscene starts to play those frames drop really hard, its below 30 thats for sure

how do you get borderless windows for this? options only has windows and full screen for me

The difference is that you can no longer disable the desktop compositor.
Unless you disabled Aero on Windows 7, latency should be the same or lower on Windows 10 in windowed mode.

OK, so Platinum just hate my monitor I guess.

MGR doesn't even work on it at all, and it makes the framerate tank on NieR.

Playing it without it now and it's a semi-solid 60fps. Not perfect at all but totally playable.

If you have a corsair keyboard try disabling its software lighting. and reboot is always good.

Good thing I have a Ti on order, 4k mode on a 1080 GTX and I can't hit 60 FPS even with AA off. It is around 50 FPS so hopefully the Ti will hit 60.

Damn. I'm at work. Anyone here with a 1080Ti or Titan that can speak on performance?

I'm really hoping for locked 60 at 4K with at least 2 to 4x MSAA

Lol, good luck with that. Perhaps 60 lock without any AA, although the game doesn't look too bad with AA off at 4k.

How is this a good port when 980Ti/1070s are running not too far off a PS4 Pro?? Unless I'm reading people's results wrong. Humour me.
People with a 1070 are reporting solid 60 at 1440p. That's almost twice as many pixels as the 1080p of PS4 Pro at a more solid framerate.

I think that's perfectly fine.

Ok I lied, the game does drop below 60 fps at 4k on a Titan XP. I guess when I was running the game fullscreen it wasn't actually running at 4k. 1620p it is.

Regarding input lag, borderless windowed mode has less input lag for me than fullscreen on Win10.

Have you tried to force the refresh rate?

Ok, so after the first miniboss (the buzzsaw thing) I jumped down and the screen froze but music and sounds are still playing. Like I can pause and hear menu sounds, I can change window focus and the music fades and then comes back then I click the window but It's just a static image of me jumping down.

Oh, and Nvidia GTX780, at 1600x900 Windowed but borderless gaming to make it full screen. It doesn't play nice at 1080p even with everything set to low, still getting drops to 50 and below. Seemed ok at 1600x900 with things on max and 2x AA.

I wonder if my GTX1060 3GB can pull 1440p@60.

If not I'll just enjoy 1080p.

My CPU is a i5 2500K OC'd @4.5ghz.

The 60 FPS cap will likely introduce more lag than Borderless.

People have already confirmed it, with screenshots. Just requires Borderless.

1080/1070 performance has been flawless so far.
