Nier: Automata PC performance thread

Hmmm.. I also have the fullscreen bug.

It appears that the game is rendering at the correct resolution (in my case 2560x1440) - if you take a screenshot with steam the image is normal.

But the display scaling is bugged. Over here (Nvidia 1080) I usually leave the setting on the Control Panel to "No Scaling" and with "Override settings" active. With those the image is distorted (with black bars on left and right side).

If I change this options, the image won't be distorted but it will be blurry (can be easily seen on the steam overlay).

Guess I will have to go Bordless until/if they patch it.

Nope, no idea how. If it's through the control panel, I can't see it anywhere there.
Random picture off of the internet, so I'm not exactly sure if it looks the same now:

This made MGR playable for me.

The 60 FPS cap will likely introduce more lag than Borderless.

People have already confirmed it, with screenshots. Just requires Borderless.

1080/1070 performance has been flawless so far.

lol. Mmk. I will go ahead and pull the trigger then. I just got a little apprehensive with the whole borderless fullscreen thing and then some people on steam where saying that it changed the contrast or the look of the game or something when you enable it but I guess that isn't true? Then there where reports of bad framepaceing.

I'm just not in a place where I can spend a whole lot so I am trying to purchace as much as I can on CDkeys and such so I won't be able to refund if it doesn't run well for me.

Playing at 1440p using borderless windowed, no other issues. Hopefully fullscreen fixes. Here's the game rendered at 5k:

I don't have all the answers either since I'm not home yet. Just reporting what has been confirmed in here. If you're on the fence, than just keep lurking and see what pops up.

Framepacing reports are likely referring to the prerendered cutscenes, which may be running at 24 FPS, which would cause refresh issues. Can't confirm this either way.

Whoa shit this game is some fucking bullshit. Died 33 minutes in and now I gotta start from the beginning shit

also for performance: was having very unstable framerate with everything set to high and 2x MSAA at 1080p on my i5-4690k and 970. set AA to off and shadows to medium to get a more decent 60fps

i7 4770k, 1070 gtx, 16gb ddr3 ram, everything on max, game never dips, only on cut scenes which I guess is intentional. Whats weird is my fps during those cutscenes says 30 but it just looks worse?

For some reason the game looks soft? I tried taking pics but all I get are white screen shots with my greenshot program.

that is not a performance issue and thus shouldnt be in this thread

Hi, I can't change to my second screen (TV via HDMI) (\\Display2 or something in settings) for Fullscreen.
It just goes back to display 1 all the time.
Is there a way to fix this?

But... I don't wanna wait... lol

I know I should so I probably will.

Hmm, MSAA in the options doesn't seem to be doing anything at all for me? Maybe it's because I'm running Windowed?

Edit: Nope, same issue in Fullscreen (which is also running at the wrong resolution).

Another thing: setting the game to 1080p fullscreen, it's obviously not 1080p. I had to download the borderless windowed tool and set the in game options to windowed 1080p to get a 1080p fullscreen experience.

Yeah, that hiccup is covered in the OP.

Edit: Oh, sorry, I didn't realise you were adding to your previous post.

Even with the AA setting off the game still has some kind of post processing AA. I was dropping some frames in grassy areas so I turned AA off and now to my eyes it looks pretty much the same and my FPS is locked at 60.

tutorial level was like 40-55 FPS. Mainly mid 40s and it kinda felt weird... all settings were on the highest so im going to lower AA next time and see what happens. also cutscenes say 30fps but sometimes it feels like they are even lower than that...idk its small annoying things but I really want to go through this game so wont hit refund just yet

sounds like 970 would be about the same as running on the ps4 pro if 980 cant hold 50+fps in 1440p. Guess I will just finish the game on my PS4 pro.

So the question to ask, for me at least, is if this game is more GPU based or CPU based.

Because my FX4300 only gets by because of my GPU tbh.

I only got to one of the pre-rendered cutscenes and yeah, it felt lower than 30. Felt very slow/choppy.

similar experience on similar specs except I had the AA on 2x and still felt like the tutorial level ran weird in the very beginning
How are the load times?

fast imo on an SSD

I've had some big dips and stutters at 1440p during the intro on my 980Ti (SLI, but I assume no support). Turning down the AA helps, but it still drops a lot during busy scenes. It doesn't seem well-optimized at all really.

I'm going for a refund. The performance isn't the leap over the PS4 version I was hoping for, so I'll just continue on that.

You realize the high preset setting MSAA to 8x which is a massive performance killer right?

Pretty sure 980 can do 1440p60 by just lowering MSAA settings.

So I got a fury and a 6600. What should I do?

Just play in Borderless Mode? I just want native 1080p and no crashes.

Intro level is simple doe, and how is this relevant to the thread?
