Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

Played about 6 hours now. Starting to warm up to the game. Beneath the jank and some lack of polish I think there's a potentially great game there, but to early to say.

No weapons for the Nomad which is fine. In ME1 I would use the Mako to snipe enemies and it was too easy.
As for the scanning for minerals it's not as bad as ME2. In ME2 you could find multiple sites on one planet until its resources were 100% found and could take ages. Now you find one and it's done. However when you're on a planet you can still do mining and that seems a little time consuming if you try and follow it very closely. However it probably isn't needed. Most stuff you can make can be bought. Resources for colonies are probably more important.

I'm talking about the mining on planet with the nomad. The probes aren't finite anymore which is good but just... annoying? I dunno, nothing about exploration in this game feels good anymore especially when coming from Breath of the Wild.

Is there a way to check time left in the 10 hour trial? I'm on X1.
I think I sunk about 4 hours into MP last night. When the rest gets used up this weekend, I'm going to be antsy until the 21st.
The game gub will tell you how much time you've played- it updates after you've actually quit the game I think.

More great looking characters that people have created:

So refreshing to see these.

Damn son! That top Ryder is awesome looking.

Any way i can change my Charakter Appearance in the game? :D

You mean mid-game? After you already created a character? Not currently as far as I am aware but I suspect this may be added in the future if they increase character creation options. If you are on PC you could always mod it as well - people tend to make tools for that type of thing.

If you mean just in general, then yes you can. Select custom character from the main menu instead of the default. The option to import Ryders created by other players will also open up on Tuesday over at the Mass Effect Archives.

soory, i meant if you can change it after you been longer than 10hours into the game :D
i thought so, maybe i have to wait for a patch then, thanks

Well I'm an asshole and a crybaby. I just got done playing 3 hours of MP without a single DC. It turns out all the problems at least on my end are from hosts from the other side of the world. The matchmaking sucks it prioritizes groups that are playing and groups of two so if you host a party by yourself no one joins. The workaround for that is to start a multiplayer game by yourself and it'll pull people into your game.

The Winter Ball quest was atrocious horse shit. Such a low point of the game. The idea and setting is great, anything that involved gameplay there was horror, though.

My main issue with Inquisition was the pacing of it all and my own stupidity to not just ignore all that filler garbage right from the start - I want to go into Andromeda with a certain sensibility to ignore all fluff and play it like one of the earlier Mass Effects. If that will be indeed possible, I should be fine.

Still super annoyed that I even have to think about shit like this.

I don't know, I can't remember it detail but I am pretty sure I enjoyed it. You probably didn't like the timed stuff but overall I think the mission was quite fun.

The game minus the MMO stuff is quite polished. I really enjoyed it.

I think the only reason I haven't finished it yet
is because all that MMO stuff can be quite tedious.
But I am sure if I can
get past some of the current collectathon/MMO minutia (something something Varric Red lyrium something) and other side things (which I strictly do HAVE to do) then I will be able to focus on meatier concerns.

The winter ball was absolutely terrible. Bad writing (I hate hate hate the faux-naivete that BioWare writes into these big setpieces and characters. It's so artificial. The game doesn't even believe in the Winter Ball, so why should I?), gimmicky design.

Really. I didn't know it was so unpopular. Am I remembering it wrong? I thought it was fun. I have a second character not too far from that point in the game, I think. I'll give it another crack.

I don't get you use of faux-naivete even after a google. Do you mean with regards to specific character (is the same as faux-naif)?

So after putting some time into this game I really like. That's not to say that this game doesn't have problems cause it does have some major ones like:
- The galaxy map just flat out sucks in this game
- Beards in this game don't look great
- The captain you encounter early in the game (whose name slips my mind) is a real triple threat. She's the worst looking character I've seen, the worst written character I've encountered and she gives the worst performance I've heard so far. On top of all of that she's a dick:
Screen_Shot_2017_03_17_at_8.30.03_AM.0.png

The animation stuff kind of got a bit overblown (or at least it seems that way to me). Yes that previously mentioned captain looks insane then there's that scene where the captain disappears and then later in that same scene Cora does her Vince McMahon strut but outside of that stuff a lot of what I've been seeing in threads either didn't look weird to me in context or I simply didn't encounter the same animation problems most did. Not to say that there isn't bad stuff in there but I haven't really encountered any of it.

Despite these problems I'm really enjoying it so far. While I was generally more positive on ME3 than most I always felt that game's story was sloppy so while this may be a low bar the story of Andromeda has my interest in a way that ME3 never quite grabbed me.

She's fuckin' terrible. Like, this is the first ME NPC that I flat out said "Fuck off" and immediately ignored her and continued my way. Just a terrible character all around.

As for the game itself, I'm diggin it and definitely want to invest more time in it. The environments look utterly gorgeous and the more mobile combat system is more up my alley. Although, I do hope there are more interior combat sections like early MEs and not constant outdoor combat.

Major complaint is that the major enemy faction, the "Kett", look so fucking stupid, I cannot take them seriously. Like bipedal rocky looking lizard dudes with a human face slapped on top of them. And that villain... was that supposed to be threatening & foreboding? Such terrible design.

Just FYI to the people interested in reviews, but marketing has changed the review embargo, presumably because of the animation complaints:

Others may well like it. I just know I hated the artificiality of it all. It's just so facile and insulated, which makes no sense considering they're supposed to be ending a fucking civil war.

What I mean is that there's an air of manufactured innocence and awe around these types of set-pieces. The game constantly tells you "be impressed by how cool/quirky/whatever this is!" It's just so artificial. The game doesn't believe in the credibility of its own design or writing.

I feel like the Landsmeet was a much more credibly written and designed set piece in that vein.

Multiplayer uses P2P I assume?

Unfortunately, yes. Played 5 games today, 4 of them were laggy as hell.

My advice to new players is to make a customized character. Forget about the default appearance of the ryder family, you can make something much better. I did a beautiful asian girl and the facial animations do seem to fit it a lot better!

If the game truly improves after the first ten hours, this would be a wise move.

It's insane how much these animations have blown up lol

Hopefully they don't change it much. If they put it to the day of release or before then that is a bit of a cynical move.

Yeah I think it's good that they at least will be more transparent about the game if the first 6-10 hours of the game aren't actually representative of the final game (or at least so positive things that overshadow the bad stuff like writing, animation, etc.)

Followup tweet says they moved it up to tomorrow for streamers. Dunno if that applies to reviews, might just be streaming.

Dragon Age 2 had very similar launch complaints. Revenge of shit mountain, anyone? Press A for awesome? It ended up getting perfectly fine reviews.

Granted, I think DA2 is trash so I think that has more to do with BioWare's goodwill in the press than anything, but I think messing with embargoes this close to release is kind of pointless. There's a pretty high floor in terms of critical and commercial performance for ME:A, I think.

Releasing embargo sooner is a good sign.

Must be a scary time for PR people there right now, well entire team really.

I know my first couple hours gave a terrible impression but once I felt like the game started for real I liked it as an RPG, especially the combat system

Oh god if they push it back...
the fuck do you mean IF

it WILL get pushed back. General audiences don't hear about this shit until reviewers bring it up, and even then they only look at the score. The internet crowd is all over this shit if they can mitigate any damage, no matter how little, you can bet jurassic park they will.

I just started and am at the part where you meet up with the Pathfinder but I haven't explored the previous area fully yet. Is there a way to go back?

More likely they're pushing it up.

Welp, my trial is up. I ended up changing my mind and made a nice Sara Ryder for my game on Tuesday. HYPE!

What kind of deals do reviewers have to do for sites (IGN, gamespot etc) to get early access?

Are reviewers asked to sign something saying they wont break a given embargo date, before they can receive their early copy?

The more I see the better this looks. Shame we wont be seeing Garrus and Thane but maybe they can introduce some new characters that are just as cool.

It WAS Monday if I recall... are they pushing it up so we get it sooner?

Yeah I think they're banking on later planets/story reveals being good, and hoping that will balance out the animation/early game talk over the weekend. For people on the fence about the game, if they hear from people in the know "Yeah the early part is ehh and the animations are crap, but HOT DAMN these characters and story!" it will give them a reason to hold on until release day. Otherwise there's just 3 days of sharing gifs and general impressions ranging from "meh" to "pretty good with legit caveats" to talk about.

I don't think PR wants that, so they're going to toss a hail mary.

edit: I was being a tad mean there sorry.
