NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

I just reached ending A. I didn't mean to do so quite so quickly, but I just got sucked in for the last 3 hours or so of story.

It sucks that I have to go to work tomorrow rather than playing this.

Well.

Romeos and Juliets was a thing.

I was able to complete
Father Servo
and
the level 50 canyon machine
on my first playthrough with a significant level deficit, but I was put in my place by the
peace parade
.

That one is a doozy.

Yeah, a lot of these quests I'm punching above my weight class but I'm doing them so it's not too bad.

That one tho... That's a wait and do it later.

She might be the most cliche tsundere I've ever seen in a game and the VA reflects that, for better or worse, to perfection.
2B isn't a tsundere... Like, not even close. That character type is constantly emotional while 2B tends toward calm and actually needs some proper stimulus to become agitated.

The one with the kid in the overalls was a pain in the ass. You can't retry it until your next playthrough, at which point he stays at lv10 but there are lv40 enemies mixed in as well.

Literally none of the others act like that.

I didn't realize there was a set timeline for a clearly outlined character arc.

She's very cold and stand-offish in the first mission and opens up slowly over the course of however long it takes you to beat it. That's classic. The following four hours, another life-cycle, and she's still shutting herself off from others as those around her become increasingly emotional and expressive.

Maybe play the game to it's fullest (A-E), before you judge the performance.

Interesting thing Taro said about the Drakengard story in the interview. He said SE did not care about the story so this allowed him to do whatever he wanted. Explains why the story was so fucked up. Then after the fact SE complained and got mad at him. Shows you how incompetent they can be sometimes. Hopefully they learned a lesson and realized you should check in with the writer every once in a while and see how the story is progressing. Especially considering SE is mostly a rpg company. A genre that relies heavily on it's stories. Regardless I'm glad for their incompetence because we got Drakengard and now Nier. Stories that are hard to come by these days.

Route C Character question:

What's with the red flash at the end of A2's dash? Does she get a buff to attacks during that time?

I'm absolutely planning to! But I'm skeptical of a late development diminishing my opinion of the preceding hours.

Also, it is what it is. It's not hurting my experience with the game, because the game insofar isn't really about 2B.

No. Quite the opposite.

a trio of gold-plated machines appeared in the city after an event there a few hours into route A

they were level 25 but had so goddamn high hp it took me like an hour to fight them T_T

Nothing, from what I understand it's
a lore thing.

No. Quite the opposite.
You just need to keep playing.

What does the
taunting
mechanic do? I never used it, lol.

Overall, the game is an easy 9/10. It had one frustrating part for me, because I am not good at moving and shooting. I think this will be a game that will be in your mind for quite some time.
I think there wasn't a single character in this game that I didn't enjoy. Some side quests are fucking lol, others are heartbreaking. I learnt that
good npc's = bad and bad npc's = good
, for the most part, that is.

Edit: Game is very easy on normal, too. I wouldn't have died if it wasn't for my stupid mistake once to not heal.

Any one else get stuck on a "loading map...". Just happened to me on PS4. Good thing I saved...

Noticable frame drops also happen too freqently.

Oh, and fishing was way better in the first game.

Otherwise I am loving the game so far. I lost my shit when the hacking parts happened during the park boss fight.

Never thought Nier would ever get a sequel

A2 uses it. Machines do more damage, and you do more damage. It can be upgraded further through your chips.

In the city ruins there is a tall building that has a ladder in it that takes forever to climb, at the top there is a doorway being blocked by shipping containers (not movable), is there actually a way to get to the other side?

Sounds like you triggered the main story stuff. Finish that mission and come back to it.

Yes. I heard the first two routes were
short
, very
similar
, and make up
50%
of the game. I just delivered the fuel filter to the
Resistance Camp
.

Really though, I'm enjoying the game. I played four hours straight. I'm not really worried about how it will pan out; I was just gushing with early impressions.

Alright, without any spoilers, can anyone tell me if I were supposed to play the first Nier before this one? I thought they were separate games that just shared the name (ala Final Fantasy), but I just had an encounter were a robots head fell off and
that grinning ball head guy from the first Nier was inside it and started talking.
.
It almost felt like the game expected me to know who this guy was, but maybe I'm overthinking it?

Is this a
continuation of the first Nier?
(Again, no spoilers if possible).

Thanks.

I was liking the game so far, but when I came to
Amusement park and fought that boss,
it went from good to fucking amazing. The music in the game is just top notch.

I'd pause your game and watch the Clemps videos for Nier in the OP. I did that and felt like I didn't miss any references.

The game doesn't care if you know who he is or not tbh, that was just a nod to people to played the first game.

If you want to play/watch the first game before this, do it now. Once again, you won't miss out on anything huge. It's just these small things that further enrich your experience if you know about the first game.

Just finished route C. Um yeah, I like this game more then Zelda. So far it's my GOTY and Persona 5 will have to be even more amazing to beat it. This game is fucking meta.

I'm in Route B and I can't get the door in the
shopping center
to open. I did
Emil's quest
in Route A and got the key, but couldn't get the door to open then either. I thought it was because
I didn't have 9S with me anymore because I found the last Lunar Tear at the same point as when that whole thing in the Flooded area went down.

Am I screwed because I technically did the quest and have the key, but the game doesn't think I've done it or something? I saw someone on reddit with a similar issue, but they didn't seem to have a resolution to their problem either.

Really cool how they fleshed out the boss in the amusement park. One of my favorite parts of the game. Can't get enough of that music. Looked like the object of her affection was Jean Paul unless I'm mistaken. What a piece of shit that guy is lol. Interesting that the some of the machines are eating androids believing that it gives them eternal life. Some of them are also killing other machines and using their parts to evolve themselves. Dark shit.

There are direct connections. They are explained enough that you don't need to have played the first game but I suggest watching a lore recap to get the most out of it.

Yes.
Although it works as a standalone story, there's an awful lot of stuff that's going to resonate with fans of the previous games.

Ah ok. I'll check that video out.

Thanks for your answers.

I just finished Route E... filled with a tinge of regret but what a jaw-dropping experience. Seriously wasn't expecting any of that. [MASSIVE SPOILERS]
Well I expected there'd be a choice to delete all your data, but the way they did it - and the way you feel utterly beholden to help out another player in the same way - is brilliant. Some of the best use of online play I've seen since Journey. Slightly sad I never got around to maxing out all the weapons, finding all the fish, doing Emil's quest etc etc but there we go I guess.

Quick question:
if I'd finished the credits game and chosen not to delete my data would that count as getting Route E?

The fuck? The hallmark of the most archetypal Tsunderes like Tohsaka Rin, Asuka Langley and Shana is that they are *constantly* flying off the handle, especially when their target of affection is in the general vicinity.

I learned it as something akin to this definition a long time ago.

Tsundere (ツンデレ ?, pronounced [tsɯndeɽe]) is a Japanese term for a character development process that describes a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing a warmer side over time.

An example character would be Homura Akemi from Puella Magi or Hilda or Sazuka from Outlaw Star. And since it's not limited to girls, Hit from Dragon Ball Super, lol.

Yes.

So how the hell do I get to the
Oasis Photograph area
in the sandstorm section?

Did you already get a photo taken? From what I could see, it only lets you take one at a time. It only let me take the oasis photo after I gave the data of the last photo I took to the resistance member.

Turns out I did get a chance to play a bit more before hitting the sack. Now that I've messed around with customization a bit by increasing storage space and fusing some chips and also buying some new weapons I feel the game is hitting its stride. Really enjoying it a lot.
The music in the

is amazing.

It
increases damage you do and damage done to you by 100%
but with chips can go way beyond that.

So, does anyone sell diamond quality chips? Or are they enemy drops only?

Drops only.
