LTTP: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

I'm not sure why they couldn't have just added a 'Classic' setting for the classic controller and just mirror the SNES controls. Is Nintendo just adamant about every game having to use their lame gimmick?

No, please kill this silly myth. There's so much evidence to the contrary. Retro clearly just was all over their control scheme for this.

It sure feels like it, but that's why I phrased it as a question. I don't know if that's what goes on but yeah, it sure feels like it when most of the games I've played on Wii feel like they just had to have that controller gimmick shoe-horned in whether it works well or not.

This game just really, really reminded me of that aspect of why I dislike the Wii.

I like the 3DS version better due to the shake to roll motion control not jiving for me personally. Even with 30 fps I think that's a great version. I think if you like the bones of this game though otherwise, TF is going to be very much up your alley. As long as you have a Wii you should check out DKC3 on VC, though, it's very under-appreciated IMO.

Falling off the rails, sure, insta-death, I get that. The rest, not so much, but as you said, I guess they realized it and fixed it in that port. I really like difficult games actually but I nearly quite during the Cave map after blowing something like 14 lives on one level. It got to the point where I felt like you essentially HAD to die the first time at some obstacles to even get what the hell was going on and that's just frustrating.

I forgot in the Wii version you die if you hit anything on a minecart. I'm used to the 3DS version now so I never put it together that they changed that. Crazy.

BTW, the special levels you unlock in both games by collecting letters are really excellently design, and deviously difficult.
