King of FIghters XIV: Vanessa DLC Trailer

How is this game, safe to buy? I've been really tempted to get KoF XIV ever since the graphical improvements.

I thought the ass shot was a bit tacky, reminding me of Palutena's reveal trailer. Can't deny how mesmerising it looks in gif form though. Not the worst thing in the world, makes me glad Falcoon isn't in charge. Probably would've opened up her shirt more, increased her bust size and made her jiggle.

Yeah that uh...that would've been, uh, terrible.

The frilly shirt is just... adding detail where there was less before. Doesn't really change my impression of her at all, works out nicely. I always felt the Ruby-red lipstick and hair were her most striking features in her artworks, now they've made them even more of a focal point.

The pants are very casual, I don't like them as much, but I DO like how this redesign gives her a red color scheme, rather than her coordinated-VS-Seth design from before. With no Seth here, it gives her room to breath on her own. Also, good that you could get her classic green (or any other solid color) pants with a simple palette swap.

The shoes... Again, like how it carries on the red tinting with her toenails, but the business shoes were surely more serious in style.

That gratuitous booty shot from her SDM is actually pretty unexpected, yes. Not bad at all in the way that everything else about her seems pretty freakin' serious though.

I also notice she's not shaking her hands in pain after DM beatdowns (so far). It was kinda endearing, kinda not needed. If she's gotten stronger and doesn't need to do that, then cool beans.

Totally want the brown skin / yellow shirt color back!

We didn't see anything that looked like her old Forbidden Eagle (Radeon!), and no swirling wind punches like Gaia Gear (which I always though was pretty cool looking.) Does her UppaaaaaCutto look like she dips low enough to go under fireballs here? hmm. Her CDM being a ref to her infinite is pretty smart though, and I love how well they've caught her teleport-movement dashes.

Her voice sounds a bit quieter, if it's a new VA / Seiyuu, she'd doing a pretty good job. It's been over a decade since we last needed some Vanessa voice for battle though, so even if it's the classic one, still doing great. I might wish some of it was louder, but I always found many of her old voice samples to sound strangely strong in the older games.

All in all, great to see her back, I think they've done her justice, while making her a bit fresh too. Lookin' forward to seeing more gameplay of her, to see if she has more subtle changes or details.

Nah, that leg position is 100% Shingo.

Is it?

Also proper shoes (not sneakers) and baggy pants... I dunno. I really hope it's Shingo, but.... (I guess Shingo being behind everyone is pretty fitting though)

Butt shot is stupid as shit

Animations are spot on

new outfit is okay

Face is still that of a real doll but what can you do it seems to be part of XIV's aesthetic.

Good to have vanessa back at least.

Did I miss the price in the trailer? How much do the DLC characters cost and do they come with stages?

Whips the only one they revealed a date and price for. $5.99, April 5th. The stages are part of a free update to all players.

Any info on any additional price options (like a bundle) haven't been mentioned yet. We also haven't heard anything about the upcoming DLC Costumes since their reveal.

The top half of her outfit doesn't seem to match the bottom half. It reminds me of changing the colors of outfits with weird patterns in Soul Calibur V.

From head to toe, they did a pretty bad job with her. That shirt is over-designed, the pants are hideous, and the shoes are silly. However, she is an all-time favorite character of mine, so I am in. Hopefully one of the colour presets will somewhat fix the problem...

They are 4.99 each, if Whip is any indication.

I'm trying to discern a pattern with the character reveals

Orochi Saga: Yamazaki
Nests Saga: Whip/Vanessa

which leaves an Ash Saga Rep. Though i most likely believe that its Shingo or Rock, I think Shen Woo could be a dark horse candidate.

I like this train of thought. Though if we want someone to rep the Ash saga, I'd rather see it's most under-appreciated member of quality:

I think we can find a pose in there somewhere that matches the silhouette, haha. The main ASH team got nice representation in XII and XIII, And Oswald could easily rep the Saga without forcing anyone to cross into storylines that'd be better saved for the proper sequel (much like the rest of the DLC character have been so far.)

AFAIK characters are $5 a pop, no idea regarding a bundle.

New stages look to be free so far, though.

Thank you all

I don't know about that...26 out of the now 53 characters have all started out on the Orochi Saga & now 7 other characters have all started out on the NESTS Saga. The last 19 are brand new to KOF in general.

There's zero characters from the Ash Crimson Saga unless you count Tizoc (in which he poses as KOD).

What is with that gratuitous rotating ass shot in her super? Completely unnecessary. Jesus Christ, she's not Mai. And were her suspenders turned into a thong combo? Ugh, this is gross.

Yeah that uh...that would've been, uh, terrible.

Like this

but playable...alright. I'd be fine with that.

I have this very figurine. It's one of the centerpieces of my collection.

Lol, I was honestly imagining a cross between her Neowave artwork crossed with B Jenet's Maximum Impact render. But, yeah that's something.

Not trying to be a joyless prude who's dead "down there" and wants to make people feel bad and ruin their fun. I've just always liked character designs (especially in fighting games) that can maintain a balance of beauty, sexy, and class which I think SNK does really well for a lot of their female characters.

Haha, that ass shot.

It's been said, but I have to say I don't really like to redesign. The thing I loved about the original design was the fact that she looked professional while still having this sexy appeal to her. The lace top and sandals kind of removes that professional look to her.

Yeah, have to agree here. It's like the 3D modelers were like "Hey, we're working with 3D now! We can add texture and extra detail to her shirt and other clothes. Let's do something you could never animate in 2D! Let's add stripes to her pants! And how can we make her plain "work shirt" really pop in 3D? Lace!"

I was going to pick up 14 because Yamazaki, but this just cemented the purchase. Now if that last DLC character could be Shen that would be great.

Team DLC!

Nah, Falcoon was kind of a plague to SNK, so you're not wrong.

Feels like they really overblew the "milf" part of her design. Her toenails are even painted. I actually kinda love it from a comical point of view, but yeah, I like her older design more too

Props to SNK for their character picking, Whip, Yamazaki and Vanessa have very different play styles.

Alright I lied her redesign isn't perfect. Her shoes should have been black/same purplish as her pants. The brown shoes take away from the red of the nail polish which ties back to the hair, which is a fantastic idea.

I know, I'm a graphic designer. Brown shoes suck. Dark shoes. Do it SNK.
