I want to get excited for the future of Xbox but Microsoft aren't helping

I'll be hooking up the Xbone again for Mass Effect Andromeda. I played the trilogy on PC, and for some reason thought it wouldn't feel right playing it on a PS4 with a Sony controller. That whole sentiment felt dumb to have, but got me thinking.

Microsoft used to have exclusives like the first Mass Effect and Bioshock that were dynamic, generation-defining games. Third-party titles that strengthened them as a brand and became associated with the platform.

I never owned an Xbox 360, and much of my enjoyment of the Xbox One has been based on looking backwards. I bought it for Rare Replay, and I've mainly only come back to it whenever new 360 BC games get added. I was ecstatic to finally play Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
Please add Vesperia, MS.

There's been a few great exclusives over the years: Sunset Overdrive, Recore, Ori. Quantum Break was alright I guess, but I never went back to finish it once Uncharted 4 blew it out of the water.

Scorpio's on the horizon and I want Microsoft to tell me why I should care. Sony have Japanese exclusives coming out of their ears, the Switch is the best thing since sliced bread in a Gamecube lunchbox, and my Vita backlog is horrifying.

Scalebound was all they had to interest me. Sea of Thieves looks like No Man's Sea but I'm still mildly curious. Crackdown hasn't sold me yet (if it's ever coming out). What else do they have? Are we getting a blowout at E3? The silence is deafening.

Xbox only seems like a game-heavy platform going forward if you're not an enthusiast that owns all the other systems, and that saddens me.

Have I missed something, GAF? I love games and want to be hyped for them, but the monolith under my TV just sits there hungry.

TL;DR: Save us, Mistwalker.

E3 will be big for the publics confidence. If they only show Scorpio and third party games they'll have signed their doom.

I know people are concerned about their output, but we should at least wait for E3 to get a better picture

Not really, that's too little too late now. Also how do we know what they show at E3 also won't eventually get canned?

Microsoft have had plenty of time to get exclusives, develop new IP's but they either get cancelled, delayed or are your bland Halo, Forza, Gears games. Xbox offers nothing anymore.

How anybody can make out the Swtich is the best think ever is beyond me, when it's best game is a port of a Wii u game . Looking over that .MS lost the likes of Mass Effect, Lost Planet, Ninja Gadien 2 Ect to Sony last generation. I think both the PS4 and One are ace consoles with fab games on each platform

So they can announce more games to cancel?

I kid.

You say you kid but in all honesty I expect consumers to be wary of whatever MS is going to announce. That's the situation they created and they have to work to get out of it.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

They already showed us the picture. Shared software ecosystem with PC. The days of Xbox as a distinct gaming platform are over.

I don't think you say whether you have a PC or PS4 at the moment.

I have a Mac (pity me) for work and an XBO and Switch. I'm more than happy with what I have on XBox because I don't really get to play it anywhere else.

It sounds to me like you have other consoles/PC to play games on and, if that's correct, then I agree that your XBO doesn't have much to keep you going back to it at the moment.

Multiplayer with friends normally gets me going back to XBO but I'll be honest, it's been all about Zelda this month.

Another weekly 20 page thread incoming. :p

Wasn't my intention to make a baity thread, just want someone to give me a reason to care in the absence of MS making the effort to do so.

If this turns into list wars, etc. hopefully it'll be locked.

The real question is why do You care?

You are consumer and those are corporations - they are supposed to make their product attractive to You not other way around.

Knew someone would say this.

I have no brand loyalty to Microsoft. I care not for a lot of their bland bro-targeting output. I'm simply a gamer who wants to be hyped about games.

I own all the consoles and have broad taste - I don't need Microsoft to succeed.

Shit, I'm just glad that they started on this Play Anywhere thing, as it means that when they do put out something I want, I can just play it on PC.

The only reason I'm looking forward to Scorpio is because MS has been hinting that it's going to be sort of the all-in-one XB console, like being compatible with xb1 stuff and hopefully the 360 back-compat catalog they've built. I'm starting to consider trading my xb1 in for a ps4 pro maybe in the fall and seeing what Scorpio will offer down the road. They're not exactly inspiring a lot of confidence right now.

I imagine any surprise games they may have at E3 won't be 2017 releases so they still have an entire year of Sony gaining more and more marketshare with exclusive games and exclusive third party content like with Destiny 2 and Red Dead 2, and then there's Nintendo actually being a viable option for once. It's going to be rough on them this year despite Scorpio coming out.

Someone doesn't have to give you a reason. If you don't like the product move on.

Sure but when PS4 get's Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and the very near Persona 5, it really contrasts to Xbox One and... Halo Wars 2...

Microsoft did it to themselves though, relying too long on the Forza, Gears, Halo (and previously Fable) yearly rotation to keep themselves relevant.

Things have been remarkably quiet on the Xbox front as of late. I agree with the others saying to wait for E3 to pronounce it dead though, especially since they have a new platform incoming

Ummm,if you played the trilogy on PC,why not doing the same for Andromeda?
Your PC can't handle it?

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I still like my Xbox because I'm still happy with the third party offering and I prefer the exclusives. It's an enjoyable combination for me.

If you're having to try hard to like something then it's time for you to move on.

As an owner of multiple consoles, the relative scarcity of platform-defining titles on Xbox is really deflating. And, based on past precedent, I'm not sure a blow out at E3 will excite me; I'm not convinced newly announced games will see through their production to release.

They'll announce Xbox Two?

People, some at least, think Scorpio is an entire new console and a fresh start rather than a souped up Xbox One which is all it's ever been confirmed as.

Tune in for the disappointment from those believers at E3.

Play games, not hype.

If you are not playing games on a console then it's time to get rid of it. It's as simple as that really.

I have a feeling Microsoft must have a few third party exclusives in the works for Xbox One that they'll show off at E3 for the Scorpio. If not it doesn't seem like they're going to have a very impressive lineup unless you really like Halo, Gears and Forza.

You can play me:a on PC with a xbox one controller if you don't want to use a ps4 controller. Just saying OP.

Personally I don't see xboxs future as dark as most people. Microsoft will probably merge xbox and win 10 even more and maybe at one point there will barely be a difference between them and we'll have affordable 400-600€ xbox/pc win 10 machines. That's actually not bad, as long as we can install programs, have backward compatibility (mainly for old windows programs) and can use different stores.

When it comes to exclusives Microsoft needs to give their studios more freedom and not just concentrate on gears, halo, mp shooters and forza.

So those people don't trust what Microsoft has been saying since the beginning? They don't trust Microsoft about Microsoft's Xbox plans? That's wild.

Crackdown, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2.

So get something that does excite you then. Microsofts offerings don't do much for me these days either.

This. It's not rocket science.

Xbox wasn't doing anything for me either, so I sold it and switched all my focus to something that did interest me.

Im not saying anything major will come for sure, but we are less then 3 months from a keynote that will introduce a new console and new games, so you cant say for sure things wont change either

Well the current pope has been telling believers not to take the Bible literally....Doesn't seems to be working...So there's that.

You say this like no other company is guilty of rolling out a couple of CG trailers sometimes years before the game is in production proper.

Can you show me an example of another platform holder asking a dev team to make a trailer for a game that didn't exist beyond the concept stage to show as part of an E3 Keynote before rebranding them weeks later ?

Same here. I like my Xbox but it is basically gathering dust until a new Halo comes out. Microsoft needs some interesting new franchises again to get people excited.
