Quick question :

I pre ordered Sb collector edition a while back on steam.

I already entered the code in mogstation for the early access.

But unless I am missing something it is currently not possible to redeem the Stormblood code right?

I spend some time jaw-jacking with Yoshi-P about the transition to Stormblood.

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/fin...bs-end-game-gear-and-the-stormblood-expansion

Good interview. This gave me a good laugh:

USgamer: Has there been any thought about ways to make older gear usable to players in some fashion, outside of glamour? Things are always moving forward, leaving players with reams of gear in their banks for glamour sets alone.

Yoshida: Not really. If we were to do something like that in order to accommodate for older gear, people might go back to older content. Content that they had played over and over again, just so that they could obtain gear was the dropped in those areas. We want to avoid having people going back to older content.

WT says hi

I don't think he's saying that they don't want people doing things like WT or roulettes that directly incentive you to do old content.

I think he means for the expansion. Since if they made old gear useful like FFXI for example then people might start farming old content since the gear would naturally be good enough to warrant doing that in the first place instead of doing new Stormblood content since that's what they want people to focus on.

yeah, that'll be sent out when stormblood comes out. You have like a week fo early access play before needing to input the Stormblood retail code

If the Primal isn't
Rhalgr
then I'll fantasia into a lala*.

Nothing else makes a lick of sense.

This is not a legally binding bet.

Absolutely should be. I mean
what else could they have been trying to summon at the end of the last story quest if not the patron saint of Ala Mhigo. To sacrifice all of those ala mhigans who were wishing and hoping and praying for a savior, I mean. Come on. Rhalgr is totally in the Papalymo cocoon.

I would be shocked if it weren't.

It's mostly hilarious given how heavily the FFXIV content cycle relies on sending you back to old content, though. WT, Aether Oil quest, multiple other relic steps, the addition of glamour drops to Coil, etc. It's fine that they don't want to buff the gear, but it's silly to pretend they don't invest a decent amount of effort into coming up with reasons to keep people running old content as a matter of business as usual.

There's also nothing wrong with doing it, it's just such a bizarre reason.

I think the difference is WT, Relic and glamour is technically optional while if a piece of BIS was on Garuda HM or something everyone would 'have' to do it. Though that's avoiding the fact that such a system wouldn't necessarily have to be whatever the highest current gear level was.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I was leveling my crafting slow and steady until I realized how much grinding I would need to get sands the other way.

Now I just want to get to scrips asap and spam them for sands.

It's half in jest but I'm not entirely sold yet on them doing a better job at weaving the move into Stormsblood as well as it can be. It's a lot of generally unfounded concerns, granted, but the Doman side of things makes me wonder how the whole story pans out. They may not do another "btw, I know we got dragons and all but check Ul'dah for like an hour and come back?" bit but I'm still a little nervous at how the transition works out. It'll be an interesting thing to revisit post-3.56 and post-SB anyway.

Granted, I'm also one of the few who don't love the storytelling in the game. The worldbuilding is pretty good and the overall story isn't bad itself but I'm not a fan of how a lot gets presented.

Fair enough. The storytelling is the big thing that keeps me hooked into FF XIV; if I didn't like that, I wouldn't be playing the game.

If you just want scrips you don't even need to level crafting classes; your GC squadron members can bring back blue crafting or gathering scrips for you on missions.

Yeah, I think I was thinking about it more in terms of just making it serve some kind of purpose, even if only for leveling alt jobs. Relic also occupies the weird not-BiS-most-of-the-time-but-occasionally-sometimes slot which could get incredibly interesting if they follow through with an entire full armor set relic-style. But really it was mostly "we don't want to push people back to old content" "....lololol"

in b4 SB relic armor requires chain-running Steps of Faith somehow

Yeah, I hope they continue to avoid the Destiny model like the plague and cancer that it is.

One of the interviews mentioned that he'd like to do relic armor and weapon next time. I took that to mean after Stormblood so 5.0 maybe.

What's the Destiny model? I played the Taken King when it came out but I remember next to nothing about that game.

God I hope they don't end up making Paladin too good

that shit is boring as hell. Animations have no impact either.

Man, Paladin animations are their like one saving grace to me.

But I'm also easily amused and think Divine Veil's sword flip is the coolest shit in the world ;-;

It takes almost exactly 4 hours if you only do A1S on bonus. 8 hours if it's not on bonus. So, one or two days.

Waiting for the bonus isn't worth it though. It is best to start on Robust to get a head start and then really get on the bonus when it is up. I finished two in maybe a week each... took me 3 or so days because of robust and a mixture of sturdy.

I think some of them could use improvements though. Add some more twirls and flips like the one in Divine Veil.

Like Shield Swipe is the weirdest thing to me because you don't even hit them with your shield. It's kind of a weird jump thrust that looks more like you're celebrating.

I'd like it if they changed this animation to you kicking off the enemy's face and throwing your shield at them in mid air.

I do like the synergy between some animations like Goring Blade and Circle of Scorn. It looks like a combo skill where you uppercut the enemy and follow it into the CoS jump.

One change I'd like to see them add is optional tooltips turned on by default during load screens.

They would be tailored to your currently selected job giving you tips on how to play it like combos or "use this buff then use these abilities".

B&S had some useful tooltips and giving this information to players where they are going to be exposed to it regularly seems to go in hand with their battle system and UI changes.

USgamer: Prior to Stormblood, players had to complete all of A Realm Reborn's story to move onto Heavensward. That requirement is going away with the new expansion. Do you feel that relaxing the hard story requirements from Heavensward is a good move for the game? Is that meant to get newer players into the game?

Wait, what?

Wait, what?

At one point they'd acknowledged that the ARR completion gate to HW was bad for XIV-as-MMO and said they'd drop it for the expansion. This later sounded like it shifted to largely the skip potions that will Make their way global during SB, and Yoshida's answer focuses on the SB jobs not being story-gated while making the content still story locked. Basically you'll be able to SAM/RDM without having to do the entire ARR and HW quest lines, and possibly be able to pay to skip the quests entirely.

Which can panic the FFXIV-as-FF fans sometimes, but it's all for the best in the long run. The comparison to letting people start a show in season three is pretty apt--yes, they'll miss things, but they'll still get to enjoy what they do see.

I wish the game had an ability like Wide Scan in XI that would show the mob locations and their names on the minimap. It would really help when trying to do Hunting Logs or farming crafting items.

(;・∀・)ハッ?
I thought that was just for China and Korea?
Yoshi-P talked at length about introducing them to the rest of the versions as well with SB. Also changing it so that they would make you skip ARR+HW (currently it's just ARR).

While it would be nice to have an option like that in game, if you're having troubles with hunting logs, I can't recommend this site enough.

So why the fuck am I playing through 2.x now? T_T

Am I a sucker?

Huh???? You saved money.... the jump potions are going to cost an arm and leg probably... maybe 30 bucks tops on the mogstation. Aren't you happy you enjoyed the story and game? :) Honestly, it would be such a loss to just jump through the whole story and be instantly level 60 on one job. All this content right now is worth doing if it is your first time.

Heavensward is the best part of the game too.

It's what everyone is going to compare Stormblood to. ARR won't come into the equation because Heavensward already toppled it.

I'm just kidding... :p

2.4 is REALLY good so far. I've been having a blast this week compared to 2.1 through 2.3. Hahaha. I'll post more but I kinda want to collect my thoughts on 2.x in general after finishing through 2.55. There's A LOT to like about FFXIV, but I also think that it's very transparent where they had to cut corners and pad content.

Nah, this is kind of the perfect time for it? Provided you're not miserable in the experience. Actually hitting 60 now is the plateau where everything is getting long in the tooth and being 60 tomorrow won't prepare you for any new popular stuff before SB launches. This way you're caught up by expansion, don't have to pay for a boost, and get to carry the season one and two knowledge in.

The concern is more post-launch, it can be a rough sales pitch to say "Hey come play this game and a hundred+ hours in we can do cool new things together!" Skip potion addresses that. Putting the new jobs in ARR cities means people who buy SB to be a Red Mage can be one before putting time into the patch content.

Basically starting now, as we enter the dead zone, means your leveling time isn't preventing you from doing anything, so you're good.

Heavensward is amazing even if it is predictable. It is much more interesting cause stuff actually happens and doesn't make you linger for a long time like ARR. I swear nothing of importance really happens in ARR until like 2.0-2.4 ish series.

3.0 onwards have had much fewer quests than 2.0-2.x, but that has made them much more dense in story content. Those moments where it feels like you're twiddling your thumbs with menial tasks have been relegated to the optional sidequests.

Except when
you're doing the filler quests for the Fortemps brothers at the beginning of Heavensward.
I actually wish Heavensward had been longer. There was too much time wasted in it. The story really needed more development.

Can I only collect light on one Anima at a time? Or do I need to do the pneumite step for my second sharpened Anima first before I can start collecting light again. I'm two runes into my Paladin Anima but I also just got my sharpened monk Anima.

Unless you're going in synced at level 50 she's going to die in under 60 seconds.

I'm doing it through the Duty Finder, so I assume it's synched. I don't know if I'm going to get to do it tonight or not. I've been waiting 45 minutes for it to form a party.

Edit: Dammit. Finally got a full group of people and someone withdrew at the last minute. Now It's starting all over again.

Yeah its unlikely to pop through DF.

If you just want the quest out of the way make a PF with the description "Unsynced with bonus", it will fill within seconds.

If you want the experience of the actual original fight, you will probably have to resort to FC buddies
