Bree Olson's Untold Story.

My name is Bree Olson, I’m a former porn star, and since retiring I remained silent. Silent about being discriminated. Silent about being segregated, silent about being threatened, silent about being depressed, humiliated, and disgraced.

Stuff like this is so awful. It's such a sad story, she committed no crime, crossed no ethical line, and she's essentially cast out and treated so poorly by the same people who probably enjoy watching these videos. It's such a horrible judgemental attitude with our weird conceptions about morality and sex.

I wish the article was longer. She doesn't really go into detail about life after porn and how she has been treated, and I'd love to hear more about that. Also, that is absolutely crazy they don't get any royalties.

After we just had a happy pornthread this is just depressing.
I hope she gets better and the shit hey get is insane

Nothing promotes exploitation of women more than porn. Its the sole reason why i wouldn't be that fussed if it ever got banned.

I'm really sympathetic to the kind of shit she's going through, and I've heard many similar stories, almost exclusively from American porn stars. America has a real problem with sexuality in every form, and until this can get normalized I really don't see any hope of Bree Olson's (and other girls of her kind) situation improving.

As far as I understand, European porn stars have to deal with this problem far less (the example of the air stewardess who received the airline's support after being outed as a porn star sticks out in my memory), whereas Japanese porn stars can use porn as a career builder in some regards.

It's pretty sad, but she also made millions and she is broke. I guess that is a consequence of making so much money at a young age.

I just looked her up on Wikipedia:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bree_Olson

In the same article, she claimed she is "broke",[8] although independent sources had claimed in 2015 she was "worth US$ 5 million.

I get her point, but if this is true, it kind of blunts her criticism.

Unfortunately, if it was ever banned it would only make things worse. Porn would continue to be made, and any of the tiny protections and guarantees that women have would go bye-bye. And if you were treated improperly, didn't get paid, etc. then who would you turn to? There is no easy answer, but banning seems to be one that would hurt the most.

Did you even read the article? Aside from the lack of royalties, it had nothing to do with porn being expoitative and everything to do with the negative stigma surrounding porn stars, and how it doesn't leave them after they leave the industry.

The bigger issue is our puritanical views on sex and how sex workers are looked down on.

Also banning porn would be idiotic and devastating, and would lead to the situation we have with prostitution, where it's this completely unregulated industry, because workers are doing so illegally and have no guranteed rights.

This may be an incredibly stupid question, but does the porn industry have any unions? Like, a SAG equivalent for pornstars? Not getting royalties for their work is ridiculous.

"left a career where I made millions", but is now broke. what happened?

The article is extremely light on details, but she suggests she was too young to do any real financial planning.

I'm completely sympathetic to her plight, but I also wonder if she's still trying to make a living in Indiana. It's not a justification for it, but come on, that's an extremely conservative state.

Same thing that happens to every person who makes millions young and then has to leave whatever industry (whether sports or porn or whatever) while young: they spent it all too quickly and invested none of it.

I'm high of the opinion that industries such as these should have mandatory, paid for financial planning, because this is too often a consequence that goes ignored.

Really, we need federal pornagraphy legislation, because state & local legislation doesn't cut it. When there some sort of regulation, the industry just picks up and moves to wherever there's not said regulation.

I would be her friend. She should just own up to it and live her life.
She's not denying that she was a porn star. So I don't understand what you means by "she should own up to it" she has no problem with her past. It's that society judges her for what she did because they have a problem with her sexuality and her career choice. They disregard her as a human being and only choose to see her as a degraded sexual object long after she left the industry.

I mean flaunt it, and treat her past as an achievement. no shame whatsoever and if somebody mocks her for it mock them back. She says she left to try "and gain respect" fuck respect she should live her life.

The video link at the end is pretty sad. Much like Hot Girls Wanted, paints a grim picture of life in the industry and how impossible it can be to get out. And if you complain or quit, there are 5 more girls stepping up to replace you because the money is good.

Can't imagine what it's like to be 25 and being basically banned for life from being a librarian or teacher or nurse, it's like being an ex-con. Hopefully her story makes a few (thousand) people think twice about doing it "for fun".

The average Pornstar is in and then out.

your right I should of said Average Big name
Bree Olson is hardly an "average pornstar". Most pornstars make only a few scenes before calling it quits, but some like Bree or Sasha Grey make hundreds.

was she that active.... Hell was sasha Grey even that active? Like maybe the male talent has that many scenes in a career but their cheaper and go unnamed. I feel like based on my knowledge of that industry to keep the "fans" from burning out. The top talent does the rounds, of sites, a few DVD's and are in the high dozens after a few years.

I follow her as well as a few other stars. She seems very open, well adjusted, and normal. Can't really say that for her followers though.

Did you read the article? She specifically says that she should have kept working in the porn industry until she earned enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life. The problem is that she's been given no alternative because every single other path in her life has been blocked off because people just can't stop being puritan.

Fuck, this thread is a good example of what she's complaining about. A bunch of people going "here's what she really should have done" or complaining about the porn industry itself, completely disregarding the entire point of Olson's article and making things worse in the process.

Sasha Grey was very active for about 4-5 years (and took advantage of her notoriety to the utmost).

She was kind of a rarity in a lot of ways.

I would be her friend. She should just own up to it and live her life.

Based on her testimonial, how she feels is irrelevant; people break off friendships, deem her unsuitable for work, or just offer open verbal abuse in public when they discover who she is.

No matter how high you hold your head, that's gotta be a frustrating, lonely existence.

It's not a career you just walk away from if you hit it big.

Whoa buddy calm down. I understand that, I read the article, but this a forum..... were going to give our opinions

and it sounds like she is getting a lot more scorn than people offering any advice

Pretty much

I really hope she not really broke. She fucked Charlie Sheen and had some products with her image on it. Sheen is not an accomplishment but in terms of star power.

It is what it is, short of moving somewhere where people don't know her, making it big in porn and trying to lead a normal life afterwards is going to be difficult, depending where you live and I don't know if Indiana is that liberal...

Still, it's not like she can't go back to porn, she already has the negative social consequences, better get some money for them. :(

You really didn't read the article did you? She can't hold down a job or find one because most people would judge her by what she did.

This isn't an issue of being proud of your past, this is an issue of society being judgemental. All they see is Bree Olson the pornstar, not Bree Olsen the person.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
It sucks but thats kinda expected. Would probably easier outside of the US where she isnt that known.

I think it's funny the people that hate her are the most hypocritical fucks that clearly know who she is somehow. It's not like there are commercials all over TV for porn stars, so how else would they know...Hmmm...

We have such a long way to go for a sex positive society.

Nothing promotes exploitation of women more than porn. Its the sole reason why i wouldn't be that fussed if it ever got banned.

I don't think you read the article dude. If you don't read anything else from it, read the last two sentences.
Porn didn’t hurt me. The way society treats me for having done it does.

Pornstars make millions? Wow that's quite surprising.

It's a lucky few, with stars like Bree and Sasha Grey were doing hundreds of scenes when the industry was still doing relatively well. I doubt things are as lucrative as they once were in the industry alone, and you can see it with so many girls branching off, doing their own things on the side. (clips4sale and stuff like that).

She is broke now and complains that Porn is one of a few industries without royalties for the actors after the leave the scene. Considering it killed her chances to do anything outside of porn....thats not a bad thing.

I mean, if she was in porn, she was at least 18.

Yeah, 18-year-olds make some dumb decisions.
But, at that point, you're an adult (financially as well as for porn considerations).

Give most people millions of dollars before they're old enough to legally drink and they most likely won't make the best choices with it.

I feel sympathy for her, but I would expect people who get into doing porn to really really really really really really really really really really really really think about everything that comes with it before they do.
