Okay, so I guess T-Mobile is pretty legit.

I played some online games with my tethering last night. kekekeke My ping was in the 40-60ms range.

kekekeke

I used 5GB of data in the last 24 hours. Still no throttling.

I signed up for this today. Thanks for the heads-up. My wife and I were on Straight Talk (AT&T) for $45 monthly - 5 gb plan. With this new 2 lines for $100 with %20 discount, I'll be paying less with unlimited data including HD video. What a deal!!

Reportedly starting tomorrow, T-Mobile is going to launch a bunch of new plans and discontinue some old ones including the $30 5 GB/100 Minutes plan.
Just hoping they grandfather in current users on that plan. My wife and I are on it, and it's perfect for us.

Day 2 in Omaha, NE. Not working out too well...

Didn't have super high hopes, but wanted to give them a shot. Really going to be hard to give up because the plan is amazing.

You are literally the only one saying that paying upfront for an unlocked device is bad.

You could always, you know, save the money then buy the phone?

Ummm, no, you couldn't be more wrong. Having two grand laying around to buy three phones is not something the typical customer *ever* has. Heck most people don't have $600 laying around for a purchase like that (whether they actually need a $600 phone is a different debate). Is having the option good? Of course. It was bad when carriers tied the phone purchase in so deeply and prevented moving your phones or activating used phones. But plenty of the payment plans are still subsidized, and even if they aren't, many are zero interest. So there's very rarely any real disadvantage to using it, and it does make a huge difference up front to plenty of people considering switching, especially when the choice is "spend two grand right now" or "keep spending $150 a month."

You've made the classic Gaf mistake, you're thinking the behavior of the enthusiast group represents the norm, and it most definitely does not.

Not psyched about these new prepaid plans. AT&T's $45 a month plan beats any of their current main offerings.

And only having a $70 unlimited plan for postpaid is weak.

T-Mobile postpaid is an average deal if you're flying solo.

T-Mobile postpaid rocks if you have two or more people on a plan.

They're catering to the profitable family market, which is also less likely to churn.

No, they aren't. You aren't paying $200 total for a new iPhone.

You have no clue what you're talking about because you're missing his original point.

Options are good. But saying that unlocked phones are bad because they are a big lump sum is wrong.

If you save the money over 12 months and buy an unlocked phone, how is that different from buying a carrier phone and paying it over 12 months?

You know what is the drawback of carrier phones? MSRP. You can usually buy unlocked ones cheaper.

So let's see, I can buy a $400 phone that works fine like a OnePlus, or splurge $700+ over 24 months for a Galaxy that will be outdated when I finish paying for it. God forbid I may want a 256GB iPhone.

At the end of the day, no matter how you want to fucking spin it: You're paying the two grand anyway.

It was not easy finding someone who was honest about it being something they actually offer. You have to be on the T-Mobile plan and you need to be on the One Plus International plan. It's a per-line add on.

Does anyone know how to get the HD pass? I called yesterday to get on the One plan and my SIM card is arriving tomorrow. Is the HD pass something I set up once I get my SIM?

I'm actually getting off my parents family plan by the end of the week and moving into my own service. What's a good place to compare Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile's features and price points?

I haven't switched carriers since I went to AT&T for the iPhone. If I want to switch to T-Mobile will I need to do anything other than contact them and cancel my AT&T? I'm on iPhone 6 if that matters.

Also, I'll want to add a second phone but may have to wait a week or two. Will I be able to add the line up front (with the 20% off) and activate a phone later? I'd like to be able to get in on that deal but will only have the one phone to switch at first.

You have to install the T Mobile app and then you just flip a switch to turn it on

Just log into your account, and go to the Media settings for the line and enable HD. It's that simple (at least until the promotion for a free forever HD pass goes away).

Is there somewhere I can port my number to today, and then port it T-Mobile tomorrow?

Ring.to I think used to do this where you could port your number to the 'cloud' but they're not porting new numbers at the moment.

Maybe Google Voice? Though why not wait and just port it to T-Mobile tomorrow?

I'm currently using one of those companies that uses a T-Mobile MVNO to give service to their customers, so my phone is technically with T-Mobile. I believe I need to port it to another service first, and then I can port back to T-Mobile to get my own account.

I'll look up Google Voice.

After last year's upgrades to their Network it's been great. Minimal issues with coverage, can't beat 4 lines 10Gb each for $139 out the door.

Plus my trip to Cancun and Road Trip to Baja California cemented their legendary status. I had coverage everywhere and 99% of the time i had 4G/LTE for free.

They are by far the best out of the four now when you consider the price, the services, and all the perks.

If you travel internationally often, you'll see just how much better Tmobile is compared to the other three.

Yeah, I liked that the plane I was on allowed free wifi for T-Mobile customers.
And that I was able to use free 3G data in Costa Rica and Mexico with my phone.

Before T-Mobile I had sprint for over 10 years. I had no idea you could watch YouTube videos while in motion. I would also almost get into accidents when driving because I would stream music, it would stop(I wouldn't notice), and it would kick back in randomly. It would scare the shit out of me. I don't care what the commercials say, I'm not going back, sprint had a god awful network. Now I pay less and have much better service.

I get so jealous when I see people being happy with Tmo.

I get shit reception where I live unless I go to downtown. Like, really, really bad signal. Worst of all is they do a hard pull on your credit so even if you've fantastic credit you're stuck with that mark for two years.

I wish I could move from Verizon. Service is awesome, but so expensive.

Can I bring my iPhone 5c to T-Mobile or will they force me to buy a new phone? I can request an unlock from AT&T since I've had it for almost four years now.

Since you're coming from AT&T, you should be good to go. I switched from Verizon a few years ago and ended up having to get a new phone, but that was because Verizon makes it so that you literally can't take your phone to a GSM service (at least, that was the case when I attempted to).

The only thing that's annoyed me about T-Mobile lately is I forgot they give out free MLB.TV subscriptions and I had already auto-renewed mine.

But yeah, grandfathered into unlimited everything on two lines for $100/mo and it's bananas.

Also subsidized phones are a scam, and it's to T-Mobile's immense credit that they started dismantling the idea. It was the norm in Europe where I came from. People should be forced to reckon with the actual sticker price for top-end smartphones. Stop buying everything on credit, America.

Awesome. Debating between sticking it out with my iPhone 5c for a few more years or upgrading to one of the new 128GB iPhone SE models.

My iPhone 5c is a little beat up (no cracks though) and things can be a bit sluggish, but it does what I need it to and that's $500 I can avoid spending.

The secret to t-mobile is jump on demand.

They won't even let you do it at a retail store because they don't get a commission on a lease.

They are doing MLB.tv next Tuesday

I switched a few years ago after the wife did.

Before this I needed service in the country. Big Red (aka Verizon) is the only company to cover a bit out in the boonies. AT&T isn't bad but doesn't have quite the reach.

Since T-mo has AT&T roaming, it is pretty good even outside of cities if you're an infrequent user.

A lot better than it was a few years ago - a lot more native coverage.

Building penetration isn't great - even with band 12 in places. Verizon is better here.

But you have to pay the big $$ for Verizon.

Have had a few billing screwups for sure. Including phones shipped back but not credited to account. Annoying. But T-mo customer service apparently isn't outsourced but here in the U.S. and does a great job fixing things.

Can someone give me the lowdown on this 20% off offer? I found a working code online, I went to the appropriate website, plugged in the code, my current (AT&T) phone number, and the last four digits of my SSN. There was a second step I punched in some information for and now I've got this:

W2akSkAl.png

So I guess I'm good to go? Do I just go through the normal signup procedure through T-Mobile's website or do I need to do something special?

At what point will the 20% be reflected? At checkout or at my first bill?

Just go open an account with that number. You'll get a text sometime after with the confirmation that you now have the discount.

Here's what the text will say:

Great News! You have been enrolled in the Insider Hook Up. You will start receiving your 20% off standard T-Mobile ONE voice plans on your second bill.

It was on my first bill.

Cool, I'll do that tonight.

Once my wife's plan is up with Sprint I'll have her move over to T-Mobile. As long as I'm adding a second line onto my account I should still be able to receive the 20% discount?

If anyone's looking to switch, switch soon because the 20% off your bill for life codes expire at the end of the month.

I switched from AT&T and I'm saving $60 per month, unlimited data instead of 10gb shared, and awesome freebies on Tuesday's like pizza and Dunkin donuts.

How do I get 20% off your bill for life code?

Price-compared with Sprint and it looks like Sprint would be cheaper by $6 for the first year but afterwards is $4 more expensive thanks to the 20% off code from T-Mobile.

Two lines is where things get better as two lines on Sprint for the first year would be $90, $100 afterward. On T-Mobile I'd be looking at $80 starting from day one.

I got mine from this link that megatronium provided above...
https://twitter.com/jesse4685

You can check the availability of the hookup code by typing it in on this page and looking at the "invites available" field.
https://promotions.t-mobile.com/TheHookupLookup

In fact I just checked and I9I8R5J4 has 1 spot, W9N1S4N7 has 5 spots, and A4A4E2C2 has 5 spots. There are likely several others on his twitter that have spots too. (Note: the 5 spot ones may not be fully activated yet in their system, so you may have to wait a bit before it will accept them. The 1 spot one is clearly currently active, so it will work assuming the spot is still available.)

When you find a working code, enter it at https://promotions.t-mobile.com/TheTMobileHookup After you enter it and it is accepted, you have 14 days to signup for service (either online or at a T-Mobile store) under the number you provided on the form. Even if you are unsure if you are going to transfer service to T-Mobile, it's best to at least submit the form with a hookup code to reserve the promotion in case you do.

Is it worth getting off my parent's plan? When I checked before family pricing was still much better on AT&T then trying for a solo plan on any other provider.

So I called the other day to sign up for the One plan. My SIM is arriving today.

My iPhone right now is on my current AT&T number and SIM.

Do I just simply pop out the AT&T SIM, pop in the T-Mobile SIM and call them to have my AT&T number ported over?
