Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Deadline is estimating Civil War's gross participation (box office percentage going to the actors, directors, producers, etc who have profit sharing clauses in their contract) to have been $95M.

That's a lot of fat cheques. I wonder what portion of that was taken by RDJ

Higher but similar to Transformers' gross-participation.

You should see Jurassic World - $200M in gross-participation. Spielberg raking that dough.

I think that the difference here is that a large chunk is going to the acting cast. Spielberg takes Transformers money too no?

Trevorrow got all the cash. The man will have directed two of the biggest films of all time.

He is the Liam Hemsworth of directors.

True, but yes, Spielberg has a back-end deal on the Transformers franchise.

Michael Bay too (he always does for tentpole films anyway).

Trevorrow needs to find another mega project for 2021 so that he can become the first director to have 3 films from 3 separate franchises in the worldwide top 10.

EDIT: Then Newsweek can feature him on a cover with "The Next Cameron" as the headline.

Beauty and the Beast is now at $710M worldwide as of yesterday.

BatB is also the 4th consecutive Disney film to hit $600M WW (after Doctor Strange, Moana, and Rogue One). I don't think that any studio has managed to do that before.

Not counting documentaries for obvious reasons, predict where the streak ends:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - 5/5/17
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - 5/26/17
  • Cars 3 - 6/16/17
  • Thor: Ragnarok - 11/3/17
  • Coco - 11/22/17
  • Star Wars: The Last Jed - 12/15/17
  • Black Panther - 2/16/18
  • Untitled Wreck-It Ralph Sequel - 3/9/18
  • A Wrinkle in Time - 4/6/18
  • Avengers: Infinity War - 5/4/18
  • Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film - 5/25/18
  • The Incredibles 2 - 6/15/18
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp - 7/6/18
  • Untitled Disney Live Action #1 (2018) - 8/3/18
  • Mulan (Live Action) - 11/2/18
  • Gigantic - 11/21/18
  • Mary Poppins Returns - 12/25/18

Thor is the first potential flop. But holy shit that list is pure strength.

Wikipedia tells me there is still some random Disney film entitled Magic Camp this year?

Still though, that's crazy. Disney 2017 lineup is crazy. To think Toy Story 4 was initially slated for 2017 too.

Cars 2 made $560M and had pretty poor legs for a family film. If the third's quality isn't up to snuff, I can't see it breaking $600M.

That is definitely the first suspect one. In fact, most of the animation for the next year and a half could prove to be weak links in Disney's release schedule (if you don't factor in merchandising of course).

You take that back! Not because of Thor but because of Hulk.

Hulk hasn't been exactly the most successful superhero on film.

Thor seems like a bomb waiting to happen
which means it will be a hit, because I suck at predicting things.

I want it to be a hit, bacause of Taika Waititi. I really love his work. Taika is a strange guy though, so it might get too weird for the average superhero fan. We'll see.

Ragnarok should be safe and get more than The Dark World imo. Loki's last appearance, Hulk & Dr Strange appearing. And Sam Neill & Jeff Goldblum back in a film together! (probably not in the same scene)

I want to say Pirates. I think the excitement for that film is somewhere near zero. But I just know it will make 600m somehow. Maybe Ragnarok given Dark World reception was eh.

I love Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows. But I can't see any of that translating into an MCU movie.

After Green Lantern, I don't get my hopes up for superhero movies based on the director.

I love Waititi but I don't really expect much of any directors when they work with Marvel/Feige. Would be amazing if Thor 3 turns out to be of similar quality to his other work but I'm not holding my breath on that. We'll see how it goes.

speaking of Waititi and GL guess who was in Green Lantern too btw:

Domestic it'll pull shit numbers. Worldwide though, fuck man. Honestly not the slightest clue. 4 somehow made $800m outside of US/CA. But I don't know how those audiences feel about the film in retrospect, and the significant time gap adds another variable.

if we're strictly speaking marvel studios they have yet to have made a bomb.

also i'm gonna go bold with the prediction here and say that no DCEU movie will bomb in the next few years, same goes for MCU too obviously. audiences are hooked on this shit.

Only concerning part about Taika's involvement with Thor 3 is that he doesn't have a writing credit unlike his other movies, at least for now. The Thor Civil War shorts they released were all him, though.

Are you saying that nothing currently announced at either company will bomb?

I don't even know why they announced a Cyborg movie. Not every team member needs a solo film.

Just turn it into Cyborg starting up the Teen Titans or some shit. "Oh no, the JL have disappeared except for me."

Cyborg as a solo character though... nah.

Cyborg will 100% bomb if it comes out.

I think we can all agree on that one.

Until we see character reception after the movie we can't all agree.

It's seriously not rocket science on making a good Cyborg movie. You basically just have to make a good sci-fi story.

Critics seem to sway more positively than I expected for Ghost in the Shell. I'm thinking high 20's to low 30's domeatically.

I'm interested in seing Japan's reception to the film too, hope it does well there.

Does Japan ever really care about foreign adaptations to their stuff?

Also, The Boss Baby has some of the worst reviews that I have seen for a animated film from one of the major studios.

No. Gits isnt even that popular. There is no reason to believe it will be that successful.
