Horizon Zero Dawn |OT2| Red Head Redemption

Combichristoffersen

Combovers don't work when there is no hair
There's a text log about purposefully creating a conflict between two groups so they can profit off of that, IIRC (the coffee corps.?). Though it wasn't directly from Faro, it's implied that he'd find that desirable.

Yes. It's in one of the datapoints.

No.
One of the datapoints talks about how, just after the Plague was discovered, he saw an "opportunity" and wanted to pivot his industries into man-controlled weaponry.

Well, he was a greedy bastard like that, but still, I feel kinda bad for him to
unintenionally wipe out humanity.

Question about location:
Is there a specific scene or image which explicitly tells the player where the game is set?
I finished the main story last night and it wasn't clear to me until I looked it up online so there's obviously something I missed or didn't see.

I remember at one point in the main story you learn that they
built a massive compound for project zero dawn in Utah.

But
the faro tower and elizabeth sobeck's childhood house
can't be
in utah
so I think there's no specific location. It's just a tiny version of America I guess.

I was revisiting this thread about the september 2014 leaks.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=895571

How Gorilla Games was able to go from these concept arts to a very different final game in just two years ! This is insane !

Maybe, the arts were really old when they leaked ? Was that a PR reception test to check if they continue development 2.5 years from release ?

The end product eclipses the concept art, IMO. Robot design, in particular, looks way better. The final designs look more natural for machine species somehow, despite toning down the zoomorphism seen in the concept art.

That is a statement I haven't had the pleasure of saying often.

Started marathoning the main quests and god damn, I am loving these lore dumps. I spend way to much time in those ruins just to make sure I don't miss anything lol.

This was simultaneously one of my favorite parts of the game, but also one of the single biggest improvements they can make for the second entry.

Some of the lore dumps are so tightly packed that I found myself having to just stand still in a room and sit and listen. I didn't love that part. I couldn't go into the next room because it might trigger a cutscene that would cause the audio log to stop.

I'd hope they figure out a way to do more "walk and talk" type ones where I don't need to sit still for fear of that cut off, or they just make more of them cutscenes, so it's more entertaining.

The side quests are good but this main quest is my favorite videogame story in 10+ years. It's fantastic.

I'm not sure how close I am to the end...maybe someone could give me a % update?

I just beat the
Deathbringer at the "Metal Devil" site up north.

They need to make these text and audio logs a lot smaller. Id doesn't need to be as small as a Dark Souls Item description, but there's no need to make audio logs longer than 1 minute or these very big texts. Also, some things are better to keep in the player's imagination.

It's just a minor issue.
I'm sure a firmware update will fix it. Oh. A recall, maybe. They'll eventually run out of power. Eventually :D
I really hope
Ted
died the way Sam Jackson's character from Deep Blue Sea did.
In fact this is a more fitting death for him:

denver colerado, most of the "visions of the past" points of interest show landmarks, one of the first i saw was the denver broncos stadium.

i'm fine with the audio logs being as long as they need to be, they're well voice acted and interesting. but i would like the text logs to be voice acted. i hate having to read in games and the longer the less likely i am to do it. but i understand why they do. it's lore building. i just don't want to read it. tell it to as i play via audio.

I agree. I just did a story mission last night and in one room there were 4-5 audio logs, each 30-60 seconds. I love the audio logs but they could be shorter.

Same, I hardly read any of the voiceless logs.

I just got to Meridian. I remember someone in the last thread saying to do the mainline quests in Meridian in a particular order. With as few spoilers as possible, could someone please refresh my memory as to the best order to do the quests?

I explored Olin's house and have a quest to track him down. I also have a quest to help Erend track his sister's killers.

Bumping this for the next page. Any help is appreciated!

Go for Erend's, if you go for the other mainline quest you will struggle coming back to Erend's quest later on, trust me. Do that one first.

Edit: Track Olin if you want but don't go any further than that, that's the real main quest.

People wondering where exactly the game takes place, part of it is definitely
Colorado, but a large part of the game is also in Arizona. Monument Valley (Meridian, now covered in jungle) and Lake Powell (the lake on the far left side of the map) is in AZ.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

I am 3 hours in and I am hooked. This weekend is going to be a marathon game session with this game. I love the story so far and the characters. Amazing.

Is this a common thing?
Somewhat worried my PS4 Pro is a lemon, but I'm pretty sure this is the game being broken?
This messed up artifacting has happened twice, both times when I was on the mountain path leading to Meridian. Whatever triggers it seems specific to an area around there. Perhaps during certain time of day/weather/lighting conditions?

Once it has started I don't know that it ever stops, barring restarting the game. Fast traveling to the other side of the map does nothing. And now it somehow attached itself to something on Aloy's back and it's basically an unplayable flashing glitchfest of spiky artifacts and LOD fuckups.

It keeps happening when the game is paused. She looks like a morphing polygon monster with legs. It casts realtime shadows, so that's impressive I suppose.

The best way to deal with all of that stuff is to ignore it when you are collecting it, and then listen to a bunch all at once.

Could you explain why that is? This was mentioned to me before but I did end up going back to Erend's quest with zero issues.

I don't have a PS4 Pro, but I didn't see anything like that.

That said, I have seen something similar when one of my old PC's graphics card was overheating/dying. So my first thought would be to see if you can return your PS4.

This is definitely not typical. Your PS4 Pro could be overheating, or yes, it's possible your Pro might be a lemon. Does it happen in both Performance and Resolution modes? Typically you'll see this on PC when a graphics card is going bad, is overheating, or occasionally if drivers get corrupted (which doesn't really apply here for you). You could try backing up and reinitializing (resetting) your PS4 pro to see if that helps, but hardware problems are more likely the issue.

Of course you could feel that way, I didn't do it that way and loved Erend's quest but I know some people did the other quest first and didn't like Erend's at all, they felt it was a drag and well, if you pursue the other quest first, that's when the biggest misteries start being revealed and going back to a long side quest disguised as a main quest might break the pace and could feel anticlimatic.

I advice going for Erend's quest first because it's pretty good but it feels like a really big side quest rather than a main one, and it's understandable that once you get your first answers on the main story you just want to know what happens.

Did I make any sense?

Never seen that on my Pro and the only time I've ever had artifacts like that was when my PC was overheating.

Bridal Veil Falls and Delicate Arch are Utah as well, not mention Bryce Canyon. Its just a condensed version of Colorado, Utah, Arizona area.

The soundtrack is great , some tunes give you a Blade Runner feel , specially in the the old ruins when snowing. The themes fit every place, like Guerrilla used the almost not sound way similar to Dark Souls games so that lets you hear the ambient. Very well balanced regarding music and ambient sounds.

Side quests are fine, some very good other just bland. I find myself spending a lot of time just hunting , it's very interesting since the outcome varies depending your tactic.

Just finished the main story last night, the final battle kind of fell flat but that twist at the end. I guess I should've seen it coming but it did suprise me. Very good game, I just have to do the side missions and cauldrons.

Edit: Oh yea and Helis was
Ted Faros clone
right? There isn't a side mission explaining that but it seemed like that was the case.

No not at all.
As far as we know, Ted Faro has been dead for nearly 1000 years like the rest of the old world

What the hell, I just met a flying machine out of freaking nowhere. I literally turned and ran and hid behind a rock to scope it out lol. Nope. Not yet. That thing is massive.

I see what you mean. I thought you meant there was some big gameplay balancing reason why it was preferable to do Erend's quest first. The way it was actually phrased to me made me scared that the quest was going to get locked out if I did the other, so that's why I was taken aback.

I thought the Erend stuff overall was really important to the status of the world and getting Aloy entangled in the politics of the Carja/Shadow Carja.

Just finished the game about 10 minutes ago. Bravo Guerrilla Games, Bravo. I haven't been this gripped by a game since Alien Isolation. I don't have a single criticism of this game. I absolutely adored every second of the 54.31 hours it took me to Platinum it.

I hope that ending sets it up for some substantial DLC, don't think I could wait for HZD2

Yeah I agree, and as I said I found it a pretty good quest overall but I do understand why some would find it a "stick in the wheel" after completing some of the others main quests because the intrigue is too much and Erend's takes you to a completely different story for a long while.

I finished the game last night after 75hrs 45min 25sec and with 99.4% completion.

After I did the last mission
and I realized that Ted Faro needed to get fucked by the dinos and then eaten, but as things stand, he migth have "survived" by making himself an android, the antagonist in the sequels heh -
I was sent back to the game, and all I could do for 10 min straight was walk in circles where they spawed me, looking at the environment and trying to process what happened and how great of a ride it was.

I still can't quite articulate my opinion on the game but it does so many things right that the few missed shots are easily forgotten and don't hinder the game at all.

I'm gonna hunt that platinum (missing a few here and there) and I'll have more time to process this. But what I know for sure is that this is definitely one of the best games I have ever played, if not the best. Considering this is an open world game that managed to give me a "linear" experience with the story, and a joy of open world-iness with the rest of what it has to offer
and the fact that the dialogues change based on how far you are in the story is just so good, it never breaks your immersion and it's a fantastic - time consuming - effort from Guerilla that should be praised a lot, A LOT!
.

Overall, I love you Guerilla, for this game and the way you decided to sell it : as a full package able to stand on its own two feet with the initial purchase!

I beat the story, have done most of the quests and have definitly put in enough time to I love this game. Great job Guerilla, I'm legit a little shocked they made such a good game after Killzone. If anything, this proves to me we need to let developers work on more new IP's instead of sequels.

Here's hoping the new Sucker Punch IP will also be amazing.

Also who else is pretty sure some story DLC ala The Witcher 3 is going to get announced at E3?

Yea when I played I thought that
Ted and Helis had the same voice actor. I just looked up up and they don't. I was thinking that that was the reason why he hesitated to kill Aloy.

This could really be a cool movie if done right. Seeing the robot dinosaurs/creatures would be something to see.

I am saving this for a week when the Box Office thread isn't moving at all. Will be good.

Hot Takes will save the Box Office thread

Sony should make Horizon a movie. I can only think how they will fuck it up.

This game keeps getting better. The last story mission was holy shit. 35 hours in, guessing I'm nearing the end.
Heart of the Nora
is the next story quest I have. This game is my GOTY so far.
