If it's three years exactly since oculus was bought (?), maybe the contract he signed upon acquisition has expired. Usually when a company is bought, retention contracts for key personnel last a few years at least. Sometimes they're renewed, of course, but maybe one or both parties decided to part ways, if it was a matter of contract expiration and not something else.
